Thank you for this Nancy. I haven't used the Golden Open Acrylics because I didn't know the benefit of them. Now I do.

Glad this helped you understand the OPEN better.

WoW, this explanation really makes open acrylics make sense. I love all of the supplies I have that you recommended in the tutorial I took with you, and the gold leaf painting looks amazing. Thank You ((and thanks for the email))

I have noticed the drying time is much longer than I thought, but now understand it because of your explanation of drying from the inside out. On a somewhat related note, I tried toning the canvas with a ground color--like blue or yellow--but I found it difficult to add the second layer. Should I wait for the ground color to dry? Or, is it really necessary to tone with the Open acrylic? Thanks for the video. Good stuff.

Hmmm good question. I rarely use the OPEN as the first layer because of the slow drying. I would suggest using the regular acrylics for your ground color, and possibly even your first colored layer. Use the OPEN for when you need the slow drying for details and more complex color mixing.

Are these jars baby food jars that you use or some other kind of 1 oz. Jar? Thanks.

I tried baby food jars but they didn't work very well. The lids got stuck and hard to open. Plastic jars (actually I should just call them plastic containers) with screw on lids are the best. I'm not sure where to buy them as I had purchased them a long time ago from a source that no longer supplies them.
