If the coil is energized when you remove it from the solenoid stem the coil will burn out.

Place a screwdriver inside the solenoid coil when energized to prevent burnout.

The solenoid tool ( www.johnstonesupply.com/product-view?pID=B15-390 ) will work for Hot Gas Valves if the HGV is controlled by a Solenoid. If the HGV is controlled by a stepper motor then you would want to use the Expansion Valve Magnet ( www.johnstonesupply.com/product-view?pID=B20-993 ).
The eev mag tool is 125 bucks. How the sam hell can one justify the price that high for one little magnet?

@@LC-qi5ff I tried to make a tool out plastic roll casing of plumbers tape and nerodynium magnets. Supplies only cost 15 bucks but it didnt work
