    As a Jamaican old time music lover,i must say that i am so impressed not even in Jamaica people dont dance like that,especially to that raw dub music. To be honest you wont find too many people even playing dub music in Jamaica. Thank you Africa, i love it❤❤❤❤

    England is Jamaica away from Jamaica for dub and reggae. It basically inspired all of their dance music too. Other than Jamaicans, I think the British were all in on sound system and soundclash culture before anybody.

    @@Flashback_Jack That is not true. Where did you get this from? Soundsystem culture IS FROM JAMAICA. They had soundsystems before Reggae even existed even before Ska and Rocksteady they played US Soul and Blues on Soundsystems. It where the jamaicans who brought it over to the UK. The thing is that in Jamaica at the end of the eighties all these soundsystems stopped playing dub and roots and played dancehall instead while in UK the heavy dub somehow survived - mainly because Jah Shaka refused to play dancehall and stayed true to the roots and inspired a new generation of soundsystems and the development of UK Dub.

    That’s how it all began back in the late 60s to mid 70s and the deck was wooden not the Technics 1200 you see there. My father was all about this when he immigrated to London. I took up the hammer when he hammered this culture in me. I’m 61 now, so I lived the best moment of what Jamaican culture has to offer the world. All those tracks are roots reggae from the 70s to mid 80s at the start of the video. It’s what is missing in Jamaican music today. Only a handful of musicians making sweet reggae music today like Chronixx or Proteje. Not even the Marley brothers are on the level of what came from their father’s era. A shame.

  • @hanshandkante5055

    @hanshandkante5055

    Жыл бұрын

    @@tmad8518 First of all, wouldn't arabic slave trade to the americas be ALSO transatlantic slave trade? If it crosses the atlantic its transatlantic. Also you got some things wrong. - The indigenous people of Jamaica where indios from south america. The spanish completely exterminated this indigenous population. - To compensate for the lack of workers, they brought the first African slaves to the island from 1517, mainly from the Gold and Slave Coast. - The Gold Coast is the historical name for parts of the coast of TOGO and GHANA - The Slave Coast is the historical name for other parts of the coast of TOGO, also for the coast of BENIN and NIGERIA. Togo, Ghana, Benin and Nigeria are ALL located in WEST AFRICA. The slaveholders who sold these black slaves to the Portugese and Spanish were INDEED muslims BUT NOT ARABS but african nations like Ashanti, Yoruba and Dahomey. So these black slaves did NOT speak arabic because the enslaved as well as the slavetraders where from WEST AFRICA and not from arab speaking ethnicities. Ashanti is part of the Akan language, Yoruba is a language family on its own, and the Dahomey speak Fon, a language that is part of the Kwa language family. Also these highly militarized african nations (Ashanti, Oyo/Yoruba and Dahomey) brought no slaves to the americas, they sold slaves to spanish, portugese, danish and british and these europeans brought them to america. The Ashanti, Yoruba and Dahomey had organised militarized warriors who made excursions to the inner highlands where they enslaved other africans, mainly young men between 15 and 30 years. The worse part is that in Sudan and Mali the Tuareg STILL hold slaves TODAY, these slaves are called Ikla. Back in 1950 the french estimated that roughly 50% of Sudans population where still enslaved.

    As an African in America I remember listening to the so called “ reggae dub “ As a child way back in Brooklyn NYC on the tape player of a Rastafarian . The delay or “ echo chamber’ “ effect captivated my young mind . Now 50 yrs later It still brings me joy and peace especially to see that people actually dance to it and celebrate it as much as I do. God bless and peace to all men.

    Thank you for this! Also thank you to Jamaicans that brought the Yardman block parties to New York. The foundation of Hip Hop. Peace & Love from Los Angeles. ✊🏾

  • @brooklynstudent73

    @brooklynstudent73

    Can you clarify what exactly is the foundation of hip-hop? Not rapping? Blackamericans were rapping and rhyming as far back as the 1930s. And it is a recorded historical fact that Jamaican Ska was heavily influenced by Blackamerican R&B and boogie woogie music.

  • @samwest1097

    @samwest1097

    Жыл бұрын

    @@brooklynstudent73 Peace! This is just my opinion based on history, but Rapping/MC is 1/4 elements of Hip Hop but I don’t consider it the foundation. The foundation is when the 4 elements Dj/MC/Graffiti/B-Boy came together at the parties Dj Kool Herc would have in the Bronx. Now it’s important to remember that Kool Herc is 2nd generation Jamaican. So think about what influences he had as a child having Jamaica born parents. Block/house parties were common in Afr-Am, Caribbean, Latino communities. But the Jamaican style parties always had the Yardman shouting on the mic while the music played. He wasn’t rapping, but he was shouting out the crowd, or preaching. And that would unify the crowd. When Herc and other Djs started doing their style of parties, they were playing American funk music with the break beats. Someone would get on the mic Yardman style, now the MC, Hyping the crowd, and eventually (I have no idea who was the 1st to do it at a party) the MC started rapping. So when I said ‘the foundation’ I was meaning more the elements, culture, and knowledge. Not just the music.

  • @brooklynstudent73

    @brooklynstudent73

    Жыл бұрын

    @@samwest1097 Herc was definitely shouting out on the mic early on, but he felt it was too much work. And this is when he brought in who is the first emcee of hip-hop's, a Blackamerican named Coke La Rock, who was also apart of Herc's crew "The Herculords". There were Blackamerican radio deejays/announcers in the 1950s and 60s who were doing what were Herc was doing in 1973. Why am I stating this is that Black America's foundational innovations in this hjp-hop thing is highly understated. Mi nah deny di Yardman ting seen. It's just that for far too long, the narrative is that "hip-hop started in Jamaica..." and I'm pushing back against that. What Herc played at his parties was harder-edged funk, soul and rock...Blackamerican musical innovations.

    @@brooklynstudent73 Mah man! I’m witchu on pushing back on that narrative. Some Jamaicans want their credit, and they deserve it. But I don’t agree with ‘it started in Jamaica’. Just recognizing their contribution. And I appreciate those facts you dropped on me! ✊🏾
