KDX 200 Fork Seals, Handle bar bushings, and more!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I get the KDX back to its former glory. I redo fork seals and also replace handle bar bushings. The fork seal method I used is similar for all conventional forks. Especially older dirt bike forks. With a little bit of love, old suspension can be brought back to its former glory, I guarantee you will be amazed with the increase in capability from simple maintenance.

    Truly vast amount of time must've gone into making this video. This video was at the 2year mark when I first viewed it and it only had 7000 views. Just goes to show you how much KZread sucks. This video is awesome, yet KZread has done so little to help promote it. I personally would love to have videos like this pop-up in my recommended column, but all I get is dumb shit anyone can do. Congrats on this video. It is amazing.

    This is about the 10th time in 10 years I have browsed KZread looking to rebuild my 95 KDX. Maybe I’ll actually do it this time !

    It’s cool to have a garage. Whenever I have to do any maintenance on my motorcycle it’s a race to get it finished before someone complains that I am not supposed to do mechanical work in my building 🙂. It makes for some stressful madness when I am learning stuff as I go…

    That sounds rough, when I did work on stuff at my old place, I had to step over multiple things and the mosquitoes would eat me alive. The garage has become a huge game changer! I am going to design a french cleat system for the wall above my work bench.

    Where did you get the KDX graphics for the radiator shrouds? They look really cool like the old KX style from the 90s.

    The only real problem that I have with these forks is how low they hang down. During race they can get snagged on rocks and ruts.

    Did you have to take apart the bottom part of the fork and stuff like the damper rod or can I do that without.

    I never heard the fork level you use?

    @LilBJessup

    Atf? It is automatic transmission fluid, for cars. It is equivalent to about 7weight fork oil and doesn't break down like fork oil.

    @@LilBJessup no, I meant the fork level. Or do you just fill using capacity? Manual says 530 ml. Just was wondering.

    @@mikakey55 I do not have a way to measure the correct mls, and with oil, because of the viscosity, some will always be left behind. When you put in the factory amount, it should give you the same distance from the top with the spring out. Which is 85 to 89mm.

    @@LilBJessup seems like everyone has a different method. I changed my fluid today and it was more in the 140 range with 530 ml so I'm going to add to get to a level closer to yours. 👍

    I've replaced four sets of fork seals on my GoldWing over the past 20 years and 160,000 miles, but always have someone else do it. I'm not a total loser though, since I take the forks off and bring them in....LOL I'm a cheap bastard, truth be told, and just want to cut down on the labor costs.....LOL

    @@LilBJessup Yep....was averaging 20K a year while I was commuting to school, and taking long summer trips (the single life with a military retirement had it's advantages for sure!). Those numbers have dropped drastically since we had our daughter though....although she rides with me on occasion. I guess it's the thought of a spring taking my head off that makes me so paranoid about the fork seals, because I've removed and replaced all the body parts to get them painted; replaced a u-joint which went bad (real pain in the butt), along with the driveshaft; and multiple (28) oil changes, and (5) sets of brake pads. That last oil changed ended up with a ride on a flatbed because I didn't notice the old filter seal had stayed on the engine, so when I got about two miles down the road it started spewing oil everywhere.....LOL It's never to late to make a stupid mistake I like to say!!!
