There was a etsy designer that tresspassed and cut the hair off of the horses at a stable I worked at with out permition. I worked at the stable as a stable hand she ran in and hacked off the horses main and bits of it's tail stealing it to make her art made out of horse hair. police were called and the horse was not able to go to the horse show the fallowing day. The horses health was impacted as it could not fend off the bugs as it normally could and it made vet bills sky rocket almost getting sick due to the pests and nearly passing away due to it. We had to round the clock treat and chase what bugs we could away in order to bring the horse back. Its not funny and it's really bad for there health.

Extensions could work but they are usually expensive and not as durable as a natural tail so they don't have the same functionality and longevity. They are more for show than function. Additionally, they are for making existing hair longer and or fuller not replacing the majority of the horse's tail.

You do not understand why the owner must protect her animals. There are ten to twenty million new illegals from 167 countries since 2021, of which at least two million have serious criminal histories. In California, we have our horses executed and stolen for meat, so she is lucky that did not happen this time. People will never behave, but will only get worse because we are being invaded by countries who have no morals andn no allegiance to America's culture and laws, and certainly no animal rights in any of the invading countries`@@PJTYLER

Springtime Supplements has Bug Off Garlic. I’ve been using that with my older herd and it helps a great deal to keep bugs away. Also, there are parasitic wasps in the pupae form that you can buy and use in your fields to take the fly load down to very few . I am so sorry that was done to you lovely horses. I’m glad they weren’t injured. The wasps are tiny and do not sting. They lay their eggs on the fly larva causing the larva to die.

I had a horse rip out more than a third of its tail once because I turned the horse out with it’s tail braided up, trying to help it grow its tail longer, and the tail took over two years to grow back enough to where it could really get flies. During that time., I had to use fly spray on the horse, and a fly sheet to try to help it keep flies off of it. I also used a fly mask to try to help with keeping flies off of the face and the ears. Thankfully, that horse did have heard mates that were able to swap flies for it as well. However, it can take up to two years for a horse to grow back its tail depending on how much was lost.

I'll add my two cents and recommend MTG oil if you can find some around. Not too expensive. Apply to dock and roots of mane AFTER the sun has gone down. Otherwise they get sunburn. The oil smells like a campfire, but it really helps with faster regrowth of hair and fur. I use it on my mare every 4 days to combat sweet itch, and I have noticed a significant increase in hair growth over time. You will probably notice a lot of dander coming from the treated areas, though. Best of luck to you and your horses. They are beautiful.

It's a possibility, but it's likely expensive as those are usually only used for western pleasure class show horses. In addition, even if it's put on them with the best intentions, the horse might do something with it that destroys it for example horses that get blanketed in the winter will often find a way to destroy said blanket via tearing it on accident, playing with another horse, or even deciding they don't want it on and trying to get it off without hands to do so (as an example a family friend just yesterday went out and found one of their horses wearing its blanket like a cape)

Third, yes, their tails and manes are important for fly control, but if she braids what's left, both should come back strong. Fourth, you don't have to use poison. We use Smart Pak all natural because we have bees so close. We also use water fly traps that use stinky stuff, but not poison, to lure and drown. Fifth, you can tie strings to the tail to artifically make hair.

It can traumatize the horses if they were mentally sound to begin with and grew up with their tails. Draft horses grow up without their tails. So they don't know what they lost. A horse gnawing at it's tail is not mentally well. Doing this to full grown horses can shock them when fly season comes up. They're not gonna like having to wear netting or being sprayed, they're going to flick their tail and will be miffed when they don't feel their tail.

It is possible the horses chewed off each other's tail. My horses did that one year. The boss mare was really mean and could kick like a mule, so there is no way a stranger was going to walk into her pasture and cut off her tail. They were all healthy, with plenty of forage and room to roam. They are on my property where I live, so I interact with them every day. One day their tails were above their hocks. They never did it again. I never figured out why. And a horse's tail being cut off is not traumatizing. A horse being tied up and slaughtered is. This is a phenomenon that has been happening in recent years. People go to pastures at night where someone keeps their horses. The next time the owner shows up, a horse is still alive, tied to a tree, and another horse has been stabbed in the chest and quartered.

Sorry to point this out, but the black and white horse has a heavily matted area in her mane. Should be brushed out. Mats bother horses. Matted manes and tails can't swat tails. As a horse owner for many years, I agree that tails help immensely, but so does that poison she was talking about, fly spray. Flies and other insects, like mosquitoes, eat up horses and drive them crazy doing so. Fly spray is a must. No, looking at these horses, someone probably cut the mats out of their tails to help them. She needs to get put some conditioner in their manes and tails, groom them regularly, and provide fly spray regularly during fly season.

Not to say that this isn’t horrible, but some people dock the tails of large draft horses. I dont understand why people do that to dogs and horses at all. But there’s always an issue when it comes to altering animals. Initially I thought that someone cut off the tail and not just the hair.

They dock the draft horses’ tails because they’re working horses and they don’t want the tails to get caught up in equipment and injure the horses. Do I think horses should still be used for labor when we now have tractors and other equipment? No. But the Amish still use them and people who compete because they want to preserve that history do it for practicality/safety reasons because a tangled tail in equipment is going to pull on their tails and ultimately damage their spines.

It’s going to take the horses like 4 years to grow back their tails. There’s a lot of variables that can change growth speed of the hair. But on average every 15 days a horse grows 1 cm of hair; and the black lost 2 feet almost 61 cm of hair alone. The paints tail looked worse, but she didn’t mention how much was lost. Plus even regrown the tails might not be the same before being cut. When you have to spray them I hope you can find something that is natural, and not some chemical mix to use. Hope they find the culprit.
