Kayhan Kalhor Maria Pomianowska 2017

Musical meeting of two legendary masters of knee fiddles from Iran and Poland:
Kayhan Kalhor and Maria Pomianowska. The virtuosos will present the sound of two reconstructed Polish instruments: suka bilgorajska and fidel plocka paired with the sound of the Iranian kemanche. The musicians will play their own program, with pieces showing inspirations based on sources not only from Iran and Poland, but from all over the world. The project crosses the borders of different cultures and musical genres. An interesting fact about the musical career of the masters is that they have both graduated in cello and both had the honor of playing with the world's most known cellist, Yo-Yo Ma.
The project also includes the marvelous master of the Persian santoor, Ali Bahrami and Pomianowska's most student, Aleksandra Kauf, who also plays the knee fiddles.

Mr. Kayhan is a maestro, the best kamancheh player I have ever seen. Kamancheh can make more complicated, beautiful and harmonious sounds of any musical instruments I know. Music is the language of the soul and each soul has its own language that's why we are different with each other. By the way I have high quality taste for the music.

It's a shame that the stunning virtuosity and musicality of these giants is indistinct and swamped in reverb. It's like the sound was recorded by a couple of microphones right at the back of the hall. Amazing music, missed-the-point-completely sound engineering!! I've never seen an instrument like Maria's before, but after listening to this for 45 minutes I'm none the wiser!! Gordon
