It is indeed important to involve non-white population into the cherished riches of classical music. Fortunately, the number of young people coming to understand and fall in love with it, is growing. I may be wrong to think that currently it is Asian kids who seem to be conquering the highest levels of performance. Thanks to YT, I have been able to discover more youngsters of color dedicating their great talents to classical music. But what is really important to me is that when I listen to excellent performances, my mind is no longer on the performer's origins or race. It is music, and only music. Kayden Kelly is a wonderful musician. Apart from his playing, he impresses me with his very elegant presence: beautiful posture, no theatricals, no posing. He is creating music. I have very much enjoyed this concert. Kayden has already gained a lot of experience (from the Google information). I wish him lots and lots of well-deserved success!

@MishaSkripach you have a right to your opinion, but I meant no harm as I am of the same race. There's no way I'd not have noticed his music and then make a comment thanking Kayden for sharing his performance with us here and thanking the organizers too!

@MishaSkripach like I said, you have a right to your opinion or any other opinion you might have about my comment. I have clarified the fact that I meant no harm and I believe that sets the record straight.

@@MishaSkripach I sort of agree with you. I am finding that when the focus is on the colour or sexual orientation, we somehow shift from the character and true talents of the person in question. Experience shows that people do tend to point out those things. That of course starts the characterization of an individual on a wrong footing. This habit is probably especially obvious among Jewish and black people. The reason may be similar backgrounds and today's treatment of both groups. ( I think it is much better for black people who have made many highly important names for themselves in more than one area. Not so for Jews...). Is it an instinctual response to a possible threat? There is something noticeable even in the way the word "black" is replaced by "of color." I believe firmly in that one group of people is not superior to another; we have good people in each, and each group has too many bad ones to lament. I tend to agree with you on that other issue you brought up: being careful expressing our objective, unbiased critique of something not quite perfect, if the doer is of a different race. There are some boundaries which some people take as unethical, and, unfortunately, some will take them as racial. Back to the young pianist. You must be a professional: I did not hear those imperfections. I did enjoy the performance.

Pianists of "color?" Huh? That's a term white people made up. We're not people of color. No one defines us but us. If African Americans are people of color then so are white people because the last time I checked, white is a color. Check your crayon box.

Wow! This was stellar! I intended to stay only 5 minutes but ended up engrossed in the entire performance. The Chopin and the Rachmaninoff - sublime! For those of us who are pianists or even former pianists who reached a certain skill level, we know world-class talent when we hear it. It has a certain veneer. The tell-tale signs: extreme dexterity in the playing, strong rhythmic coherence, and highly cohesive phrasing. All of which were on full display here. Kayden fearlessly raced toward certain passages full of pitfalls, emerging relatively unscathed. But, he also took other passages at a more moderate pace. Loved how he paced the Rachmaninoff. When left me perplexed is how he was able to provide what we all come to expect from these pieces, yet at the same time put forth renditions that felt wholly unexpected. It was exhilarating. What a thrill. Bravo!

My hairs raised and tears came to my eyes seeing this wonderful person play the rendition of all the pieces were astounding especially for the Rondo capriccioso. In relation to the prelude in gminor ,at first I thought the piece was rushed and the left hand wasn't very strong and accented, but I was thinking of the piece in the mechanical and typical way it's usually played. However, he created a new and refreshing rendition it was completely different and unexpected and works so well. He has a bright future ahead of him.

Wow!!!! First off, all of the pieces were played incredibly!!! I especially loved the sensitive, powerful, and melancholy interpretation for the C# minor prelude and emotionally rich interpretation of the Piano Suite. Second, as a Black person who LOVES classical music, a fan of Chopin's pieces/ the Chopin Competition, as well as a advocate for representation in piano competitions/ the classical music world, I am glad to see representation in the piano world. In addition, I love how the program includes a piece by Samuel Coleridge Taylor, as I've written about the inclusion of Black composers in the classical cannon. Bravo and Keep up the AMAZING work!!!! 👏👏👏
