    It’s crazy comparing your set up to the very bare setup I’ve used. Young and dumb lifestyle put us out on a 5 day trip with a backpack full of basic gear, one with water, and another with liquor and snacks/food. Oh and a case of beer tucked between each of our legs. Everything went well but if it didn’t we didn’t have much of a back up besides basic tools.

    Mike Kelly That sounds fun! LOL! I’m thankful my wife and daughters enjoy making these trips with me, but that requires a good meal and some “comfort” items. We’re pretty dumb sometimes, but not as young as we used to be! 😂

    Could you make the kayak chair work for a camp chair? You might be able to make some sort of light weight riser kit to save some weight and bulk.

  • @MichaelMiddletonTBH

    @MichaelMiddletonTBH

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes, it works but typically the cloth on the chair remains wet for some time and once I'm out and in dry clothes, I don't want to get them wet again. The hammocks also work fine for lounging, but not really practical for sitting with a group or around the fire. Thanks for the comment/question!

    How do you find a place to camp? Do landowners ever get angry even if you are staying on river beds or bank?

  • @MichaelMiddletonTBH

    @MichaelMiddletonTBH

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@lisajuarez8632 I've heard of instances of that happening, but I've never had any issue on any of the overnighters I've done. You can "scout" places to camp using something like Google Earth to locate potential beaches (sandy or rocky) that are open for tents or have trees for hammocks, but it's pretty easy to locate good spots while you're on the water. It becomes increasingly difficult with larger groups, but you can also spread out.

    Michael do you prefer sit on top kayaks over sit in kayaks? Reason I ask is I notice in a lot of your videos you all are rocking sit on top kayaks?

  • @MichaelMiddletonTBH

    @MichaelMiddletonTBH

    3 жыл бұрын

    I do...but then I've never really used a sit inside. For Texas rivers in the summer, it's nice to be able to splash water on myself without worrying about filling up the kayak. Bilging or dumping water doesn't sound like much fun! The SOT's work well for us.

    Where do you get the majority of your camping supplies Hammock, grill, kayak, paddles etc?

  • @MichaelMiddletonTBH

    @MichaelMiddletonTBH

    4 жыл бұрын

    The Unbridled Rabbit I bought the kayak from The Field and Stream Store (a division of Dick’s Sporting Goods.) I ordered the paddle from Bending Branches. I’ve picked up Hammocks from various places on the internet. The one I’ve used most is Bear Butt and I have some from Yukon. Tarp came from DD Hammocks. I’ve bought quite a few things from Amazon, but recently I’ve tried to support vendors directly, like quilt/under quilt and other camping products from Outdoor Vitals.

    When we made these trips the water level and flow rate was pretty high. It’s been really low for the last year or so. I imagine there will be some dragging right now until the area gets some steady rains.

    The one I use has tapered base, which fits perfectly inside this kayak. I didn’t have to do any modifications. If you’re careful, you can use a heat gun to soften the plastic on the kayak and mold it around the seat. Might be risky, though.
