Kawasaki Versys 650 - Test Ride & Reveiw

2018 Kawasaki Versys 650 - How good it is?
The Essential Guide to Any Motorcycle Traveler - Online Course: rtw-adventures.com/online-cou...
Finally I have good the chance to test this machine. It was obvious that it is not for off road, but it has everything what it needs to be the perfect touring motorcycle. It has 650 cc parallel twin engine with 69 H.P, nice adjustable suspension and powerful brakes. The tank is 21 l, which ensure 400km of range. The wheels are 17 Inch front and rear and as I said this makes it very good road machine. The building quality is very good and all the details are very well planed and made. The price in Germany is 9,000 euro without and 10,000 euro with factory hard cases.

    This is a Great bike. I'm your size & been riding for 40 plus years & this bike has been very solid & dependable. I ride the highway & city. & also on the COUNTRY back roads & through the fields. Best all around bike I've ever had. That's saying alot because I've had many bikes through the years. I'm not saying this is a dirt bike. But it's kinda like the swiss army knife of motorcycles. Great VIDEO.

    I just found your Channel - superb, ty for the uploads. I've never driven a Kawasaki and never anything above 750cc, this is now my favourite bike/review, the power is ideal as is the weight and I've never felt the need for anything bigger than 750cc. I can see myself touring on one of these. As a 50yr old anything heavier & I'd never be able to pick the thing up off its side esp. if loaded - keep it small(ish) with a big heart & I'm half sold.

    I have a 2019 Versys, and I've had it close to a year now. Very pleased with the bike. I'm in agreement with you, this bike is not meant for offroad. It's a good commuter bike, city bike, or winding roads in the country. It makes all the power you need and then some. The brakes are excellent. Fuel mileage is very good. For the price, this bike is a winner.

    Thanks for the review of Versys 650, I wanted a review from you since long time as I own this bike for more than a year now. As you said this is not a offroad bike but after changing stock tyres to knobby one, it will do the job to some extent as far as touring is concerned. Liked your honest review though I can't agree to all what you said. Keep it up!

    Excelent review, Pavlin. The Versys continues to honour its name. With Pilot Road 4 tires, its the perfect pairing for mixed roads. I really enjoyed the beginning of the film and your assessment of ergonomics. A great idea to set aside the camera and show how a guy with a specific size fits the motorcycle. I know that it can also be checked on the cycle ergo website. However, I prefer to see the example live. You must repeat this shot in the next motorcycle tests. Great work, keep it up!

    In the V-Storm, Tiger 800, Tracer 700 tests, there were no shots where you put the camera completely to the side and you sit on a motorcycle. But I'm new here, so I have not seen all the tests yet. Maybe I am discussing this topic a bit too much, but it's just for the fact that I have the same height and similar weight as you, so when I look at you from the side on a motorcycle I see myself.

    Hi from fellow Berliner! And, coincidentally, a Versys 650 owner. I totally agree, that the bike is not exactly offroad-worthy... STOCK. However, with some aftermarket parts (I installed a skid plate + radiator cover, removed stock drop-me-for-300€ front turn signals in favour of sw-motech stuff and installed Avon Trailrider on it, add chain oiler) it is very and very capable. Its short-based, which is both a plus and a minus offroad, it's suspension travel is sufficient for "grader" gravel roads like you've described, and while a 17 in the front, the disks are somehow VERY durable. Some fellas even manage to go "hardcore" on them, but imho, they are good for 80/20 or 70/30 usage, and if you want more, you'd have to install spoked ones. Overall, a really nice machine, had a choice between it and 2017 wee-strom, and I found it better for everyday usage, than wee, but that's a personal opinion. The price surprised me: last year it costed 8k without paninniers

    Hi UndeadBane, I have a 2014 Versey 650 that is ready for some new rubber. I was wondering how you like the Avon Trailriders? I would say I ride better than 90% road, less than 10% gravel and dirt roads. My other considerations are the Scorpian Trail or Conti Trail Attack. Thanks! Regards from Philadelphia, Rich

  • @UndeadLol4ever

    @UndeadLol4ever

    elitetileandstone I love them so far: they are really good on and off road (heavy mud is their undoing though) and promise really good longevity so far. In fact, I feel they are better on road, than stock plastic Dunlop crap it goes with. I literally tortured all my friends and read probably everything in existence about the long lasting tires, and TKC70, Metzeler Tourance and Avon Trailriders were left as a 80/20 solution. TKCs have really bad reports about wobbling of the front tire (like NOPE right away), plus for LE650E+F they are illegal in Germany (and Conti declined my request to make it as legal, as they are for C and D versions). Tourance and Trailrider both have good ratings, but Trailriders had much more positive ADV reviews - so I ended up buying them. For 90% road, however, i would also consider Metzeler Roadtec 01 - everyone I know using it LOVES the tire, plus it's long lasting and won't let you completely down on stuff like gravel. However, still, consider Avons - they've put a lot of work into that tire, and I like it personally on road too. Also, see earth roamers report on them - it was the last straw for me to buy them.

    Motorcycle Adventures thanks :) I've got long way to go with upgrades to your level :) And the suspension is just fine, once tuned - being roughly as big, as you, I had it tuned just a couple of clicks up the scale (doing that in a pro shop is a REALLY good idea), and it holds me really really well. by the way, for the ones who'd find the stock windscreen to suck (like I do at 185): DONT set it to topmost position - wind will hit the top of the helmet + the "spoiler" effect from under-the-screen slit is all but gone. Instead, LOWER it, so that the air is going on top of the shoulders - much less buffeting and more stable flow, at expense of bugs in the visor. Mine is now set somewhere around 2/5 from the bottommost position. And one more thing on aftermarket parts, that's not evident from online reviews: if you are taller, than 180, Puig tall screen is a no go. Not only it looks like from a moped, but it also is aerodynamically weird, and creates a standing wave at the top 2-5 centimetres of helmet. Effect is the same, as if someone was hitting top of your head with a damn hammer. So, it lays collecting dust as a result :)

    UndeadBane, Thank you for your in depth reply. I believe we have read all the same reviews on the Trailrider from Earthroaners and ADV Adventure. I have also read about issues with the TKC 70's.. I've never had an issue with Metzler tires. But , they were always pure road tires. Back in the mid 1980's, the Metzler ME33 Laser and ME99 were the hot set up for sportbikes. I also had older Roadtecs on a 01 ZRX1200. They were really good tires. Avon isn't really popular here in the US. I think I'm going to give them a spin (pun intended).I like the fact that they look like they are more dirt oriented than some of the competition. When I go for a Sunday morning ride, my friends we riding two new Africa Twins. I just need something with a little more traction than a worn out pair of OEM Dunlops, in order to keep up. Thanks again, Rich

    Pavlin, the empty space behind the front fairing is there exactly for the reason you say - so that you can put your hand there - so that you can change the headlight bulbs! This bike has two H7 bulbs which you can change without any tools, just put your hand in there and do some well-practiced movements. Being able to change a burnt bulb quickly at the roadside is a very good feature on an adventure bike.

    My wife and I own a Versys 650. We have the LT version, with saddles, handguard etc.. we do 10 to 20 % off road, I'm sure the Vstrom and bikes with wider front tires will fell more maneuverable there. The advantage of having smaller tires helps provide better street and trwisties performance. consider taking them to unpaved road to give us ur honest opinion. Having said that. The roads in Germany are very similar to what we have in the states. Even the ramps that merge to the highway. Street lights are a little different, with the addition of the far side-of-the-road lights, kind of like in Washington DC. Yes! -- been waiting for this video - thanks! Here are some of my comments (after taking the versys on several multi-day trips): 1. seating position relative to pegs : its OK - but I found that I could ride about 100 miles and my knees would be a little sore. 2. seat cover - its good - but if you go to very hot places (like the desert) - be warned that any metal parts on your coat or gear that get hot can melt the cover - this happened to me! - and I still don't know exactly what caused it - but now I have some small melt-marks on the seat :( 3. suspension - fully adjustable - and works well when you load the bike down with gear. 4. suspension - not enough travel for really bumpy/rocky roads - take it slow and you'll be ok, but still not ideal 5. plastics - the black plastics near the radiator and bottom of the engine are surprisingly strong - I wiped out at low speeds twice on loose gravel roads that these plastics, while getting scratched up, seemed to protect things nicely. That said, agree 100% that better radiator and exhaust protection is a good idea. 6. blinkers -- these are designed to be a little floppy and resist breaking in minor falls ...but I still don't like them 7. range - fully loaded with gear (~40 lbs) - 200 miles 8. The gap under front fairing -- this is where you put all your wires when you add USB and heated grips :) 9. Foot brake/shifter -- these definitly need to be changed if you want to go off the pavement -- even the slightest fall when bend them all to hell 10. wind screen - I'm also 6'1 - and even with the windscreen in the top position it a tiny bit too short. 11. Power / Cruising - I love it - 80mph all day long no worries. (ps sorry to our non-USA/Canada friends for lbs/miles figures :) ) a pic of my bike fully loaded in Death Valley California goo.gl/maps/NfccyYotyBk

    Thank you so much for the review! I was very excited when you mentioned you were going to try one. Don't knock it off road till you try it! (After a skid plate or a big rock will pull the muffler off the header which I did twice before I bought my motech skid plate.) The 17" front had me worried at first but after going on trail rides with husq 701's and other similar bikes the front wheel just doesn't seem as much of a hindrance as you'd think. I believe the angle of the front forks helps the front tire to bump up over things but this is just a theory. I love your channel, I'd buy a T-shirt that says "The weight is always matter." I like that you try to keep things as practical as possible. I really woulda liked to see you open the throttle all the way up because thats the part of this bike that will really win your heart.

    This is a motorcycle review not traffic and bike riding instructions. If someone have a problem with this then they can change the channel. It is up to you if you wish to risk getting a fine for breaking the local laws. The way I see it is simple, as long as you are not posing any risks to yourself and the others around you then you are OK. In UK and many countries filtering is fully legal anyway. Nice video. I doubt I will buy Kawasaki KLE 650. Bike is too expensive and for me bit uncomfortable. As you said before (and you were correct BTW) I will look into Yamaha Tracer 700. Kind Regards

    Steve Smith: I must disagree with you. I am Polish-Canadian living in UK. I do live in UK but I am NOT British, and I never will be. I am happy in UK, I am part of British community but the fact is I am NOT British even thou I do live here. I do know British Law that applies to me (Traffic Act, NHS Access to Treatment, some building legislations) and I am not trying to even bent it, yet regardless of me being a part of British community as I am living here I am still NOT British. You are combining two separate things and you are trying to apply a new meaning and you really should not. Respecting Law is one thing, living in some country is another thing and your nationality is completely different thing and none of these should be mixed in any way. When I am crossing different countries while I am on long trips I do have to respect local laws but I am not a part of any of these countries. Living in different place than the country of birth is pretty common and it does not mean anything. I am still being labelled as Poles, and it is nothing wrong with that as I am Polish, yet such statement is separating me from the society I am living with (Brits) and even thou OI am living in UK I will never become a Brit!!!!!!!!

  • @SteveSmith-np7kz

    @SteveSmith-np7kz

    Mate its not the point what ur nationality is called, i mean who cares. First of all we are all humans we have just some different names and thats it. Point is when u are in some country the law applies to u no matter what ur nationality is or ur religion. And its up to u to respect it or not, but saying stuff "im not from this country and that law doesnt apply to me because i can do that in my country", those are just not the facts, since law of that country is above. Maybe split laning in my country is allowed but if im living in Germany or im just passing, and they dont allow split laning, u are breaking the law. Simple example u have RULES in ur house, and someone comes and u tell them take of ur shoes since its how we do it here, and that person says "i wont do it cuz i walk in my house with shoes". :) P.S. Im not from Germany no do i care about nationalities :) sry my english not best.
