What you missed, Nehru surrendered to Muslim league pressure . He abandoned the whole of Bengal. It was Shyama Prasad Mukherjee who saved a portion. Further, When muslims were killing the hindus, nobody came to rescue. However, after three days, Gopal Mukherjee established a volunteer team and started to counter. When muslims were getting reciprocal hits, Gandhi arrived and requested Mukherjee to surrender arms. Mukherjee simply asked, could Gandhi make the muslims surrender their arms. Gandhi could not answer.. So Mukherjee denied Gandhi and the muslim mob were paid back with their own coin.
