Kaun Bola Big Girls Can't Dance? - Sumukhi Suresh | Spoken Fest 2022 | Storytelling
Ойын-сауық
After Sumukhi Suresh stepped off the Spoken Fest Stage, she went to a corner with a few close friends and started crying. At the time, she couldn't understand why the tears were coming. After all, this was a... happy story? With a happy ending?
Sumukhi's story, "Kaun Bola Girls Can't Dance?" is about a secret she has carried with her for years: her love for dancing. She was made to feel ashamed for it, and this story is about overcoming that shame.
Watch till the end for a magical Spoken moment.

@@KommuneIndia Ayee, Sunflower is my favorite smiley too and i use it ALL the time. Also, love what you all are doing with kommune! ❣️
What I love the most about this story is that nothing about it seems performative. It feels like she is having a conversation with the audience around her -- an honest, humorous and heartfelt conversation -- and the rest of us are listening in. She does not try too hard to make us feel any particular emotion, but we feel it all with her.

I hate the bastards and that it took so long for her to just danceee! Thank You Sumukhi for taking up the space and the stage and bringing it on fire! 🧡✨

sad reality is world is full of bastards like Sandeep Maheshwari & Chetan Bhagat, (I really like them otherwise) but even they body shame.
I relate so much to the Big girl Tax bit. I spent such a big chunk of my life trying to make a crowd comfortable with my weight by poking fun at myself, even though I would never do that to someone else. So happy to see this comment section and Sumukhi at peace with themselves and the space they take ❤
It happened to me as well. A friend of mine (with good intentions) told me that she adores how i carry myself even after having such a body. It didn’t hit me until then that I’m actually fat. I was not “carrying” the body, I was just living

It just reminded me of my school and college days...we are always comfortable the way we are till someone keeps reminding us how different we are...

When girls back you, they fuckin back you!!!!
The trauma of that unsaid bullying is so relatable dude. I just cried seeing this vid. I am out of that zone but I hope teenagers and even school teachers are more sensitive to such kids nowadays.
this is me....tired of hearing "stage tut jayega tu dance karegi toh" and dancing my heart out in my room(locking the doors and switching off the lights)......i love to dance....and ek din everyone will know

I hope when you join dance classes you find like minded people who appreciate you, not demotivate you. But if you don’t, don’t let others rule your life. It’s easy to say, but it’s something’s we have to do, at 15, or 25, 45, but we have to stop paying attention to others word. Sooner you do, better it is. Good luck

Hey there..I think it's a phase that a lot of people go through, in some way or the other, acne, hair, skin colour, too thin, being heavy and so on.... If people talk bad, remember, it's them, it's not you. All the best to you in whatever you choose.
It brought tears to my eyes. I'm so happy that you got to do your hook step 'like everyone was watching'. And I'm sorry that you had to go through this because I cannot even imagine what it must have been like for you. Thank you for putting this out and sharing it with everyone. Much love !
Thank u ma'am for sharing this. m 163 kgs. Had similar experiences first bad and then good. Also pretty successful in my career (m CA in 1st attempt), and this story has brought tears to my eyes & smile to face. Thank u once again for sharing.
I don't know whether I am overwhelmed, confused , happy or feeling vulnerable but One thing that I felt for sure is I felt so much relieved. It felt like some part of me got to do what she loves in you Sumu . I wish I could be like you , bold and Frank and super cool . Even tho I am a bit overweight , It gets me to the core everytime I am in public . I workout , watch my diet and make sure to do what's in my hands to become slim but everyone's bodies doesn't respond to them the same way . Listening to you was so heartfelt to me . I love you daa ❤️
She has put up her video dancing to koi mil gaya in the diwali party!! I lovvvvve her🥰
This was so heart warming. Being a big girl myself I could so relate to it ! ❤️

RMH memories ki saugandh khate hue 😇 Sumukhi you were the most amazing dancer😍 My affection for you was threefold as you reminded me of my bf cousin who too was a chubby ekdam khatarnak dancer like you👏👏😘💕( Btw also a fan of yours😁)
thisss beautyyyyyyy, 12 minutes crying was all worth at the end by the hook step,
I never knew what was comedy. One day just randomly scrolling on KZread i opened a skit performed by sumukhi 'maid' since that day and today I only look sumukhi's stand up comedy and skits because she do work open heartedly as if no one cares. Her careless attitude towards people and talent of comedy outshines her. I am sumukhi fan now.
i dont know why but seeing her smiling and dancing infront of the audience made me forget my pain and insecurities. love love love
This was amazing. I understand and relate to what she is saying since all my teenage I have been fat not overweight but definitely not what an" ideal female body" When I was in college I had some so called friends they literally fat shamed me every opportunity they got and if I ever stood up for myself they acted like I don't know how to take a joke! Finally during lockdown I started working out I am healthy now and I don't care about my weight anymore since I was never overweight, it was just that I was insecure and not confident enough. IDK what is it but everyone now a days says I look so good and all that, but IDK is it because my weight or because I am much more confident now however I always remained myself this high never lasts since seeking approval from others always break us a little. We need to know our worth❤
the taking space thing and 8th grade shit was relatable and also the dharti fat gaya comments ..boys thiught it was comedic gold. not going down with the whole story ..but this is what happened my friends used to say if i do right side part i will look better this that and i told them but your face wont change you will look the same anyways something like that and it hit me that if i tried ti take less space it wont happpen because i will be the same size anyways so rather than being like a meek ship i ll just stride in confidence and i will have to admit that cinfidence came from watching confident plus size girls around me which also gave me a little push to dress the way i want with the current body i have rather than just waiting to fit in because may be in the streets someone might get the confidence in themselves by watching me like i did..
You made our voice heard!💙 All my love for you because I am you.....the same Big Fat Girl who pays the same BGT Big Girl Tax. You prove our existence every time you come on stage and talk from our perspectives.💙
I cried like a baby watching this,it is so true I felt like I need to take on a personality to cover up for the fact that I am big.I took part in every debate possible but never dared to go near sports. I remember a friend used to make fun of me using this line from k3g song, suraj hua mathdham-“main tehra raha zameen chalne lagi”
MUCH NEEDED IN TOAYS GENERATION. THANKU FOR PUTTING FOWARD SUCH A HEARTWAMING STORY ON BODY POSITIVITY. INDEED RELATABLE TO MANY BIG GIRLS LIKE ME !!! YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION INDEED , KEEP SPREADING YOUR STORIES AND KEEP INSPIRING MORE BIG GIRLS , WHO USE TO HEAR SUCH DEMOTIVATING COMMENTS ON THEIR BODY, YOU ALL ARE BEAUTIFUL THE WAY YOU ARE!!!NEVER LET ANYONE DEMOTIVATE YOURSELF, BEAUTY LIES IN ALL SHAPES AND COLOURS !!!!!!
I liked the video when she said when girls backs you , girl backs you
Sumukhi Suresh is the best! OG!
