Lyrics:
Comparisons are easily done
Once you’ve had a taste of perfection
Like an apple hanging from a tree
I picked the ripest one
I still got the seed
You said move on
Where do I go
I guess second best
Is all I will know
(Chorus)
‘Cause when I’m with him
I am thinking of you
Thinking of you
What you would do if
You were the one
Who was spending the night
Oh I wish that I
Was looking into your eyes
You’re like an Indian summer
In the middle of winter
Like a hard candy
With a surprise center
How do I get better
Once I’ve had the best
You said there’s
Tons of fish in the water
So the waters I will test
He kissed my lips
I taste your mouth
He pulled me in
I was disgusted with myself
(Chorus)
You’re the best
And yes I do regret
How I could let myself
Let you go
Now the lesson’s learned
I touched it; I was burned
Oh I think you should know
(Chorus)
Your eyes
Looking into your eyes
Looking into your eyes
Oh won’t you walk through
And bust in the door and
Take me away
Oh no more mistakes
‘Cause in your eyes I’d like to stay

That I could agree. This song makes me wanna cry more than the one that got away did. I wanna cry for katy who lost her man, for the dead guy who lost his life and failed to come back to katy, and for katy's current man who didn't have his lady's full heart.

My Grandmother married my Grandfather at 34 years old, 7 years after she lost the love of her life during WW2 in Poland. Nazi’s killed him. His name was Joseph, a violinist. She told me about him at 97 years old and I’ll never forget the twinkle in her eye when she said his name. They were set to be married on Christmas Eve and ever since I heard her story, I light a candle for her and Joseph every Christmas Eve. My grandmother passed away at 100 years old, almost 4 years ago and I sometimes wonder, who’s arms did she run to first when she reached the other side; my Grandfather or Joseph?

I was 15 years old when this song was released, I used to sing it with my friends on repeat not knowing I’d be relating to it one day. 15 years later here I am actually relating to every lyric and meaning of this song and crying coz it hurts so bad. I thought finding someone new would heal my heart but it turns out, my heart will always love and look for the one it loved the most. But now we’re both married to someone else but it’s just not the same. If you ever come across my comment, I want you to know I still love you and you’ll always be the one. Maybe one day.

Reminds me of my dad tbh, he was in the military. He died in 2018, and mom in 2020. I miss them so bad
This is a self written masterpiece! We need more songs like this for KP6
"You said move on, where do I go?" - this line brings me to tears. The pure hopelessness of not knowing what to do with your life since they are no longer in it.
Anyone else still miss this Katy?? 💟

I'd be honored if some fans of Katy Perry's classic period (2008-2012) would give a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of WIDE AWAKE and TEENAGE DREAM on my YT channel in tribute to the queen. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and peace.

Damn I’m 30 now but back when I was 16 listening to this song I didn’t really know what it really felt to be heartbroken and how much the lyrics hit now. Good memories. We had good music taste fellas, we getting older but memories still alive.

i lost my first love to cancer back in 2015 , we were 16 . I’m 25 now , living in another state. I found someone who wanted me as a wife. My current partner treats me so well , i wish you could see how grown up & how happy i am today , you could’ve been so proud of me .

THIS IS THE REAL MEANING!!! This song is about when me and Katheryn Hudson & the time right before I went to Iraq for the 2nd time.. We were out on the beach for the day on USMC base Camp Lejeune, she often flew in to come visit me...And I told her to go her own way because I would be gone for 7 months & I wouldnt hold her back from finding love somewhere else..and that theres a possibility that I might not make it back at all...she didnt listen or like that at all..theres more stuff to it than that but I have forgotten some of it...I remember most of it but I didnt find out that she written this song about us until a few months ago...man we had some great times together

Man… when she wrote truly great songs, and made truly great art. Money corrupts everything. Even though I love some of the pop stuff as well. This is just timeless.

I Don't Care What Anyone Says, This Is Definitely One Of The Most Beautiful And Amazing And Legendary And Timeless Katy Perry Songs 💖👏🏿.
"Bust in the door and take me away." 3:40 that line just hurts. It hurts cause she knows that he never will bust in the door and take her away, but she always dreams of it
That ending part "Coz in your eyes I'd like to stay" was just really painful. I felt that.

This is such a hit. It just sucks when an artist gets watered-down by the industry and can never return to what made them so great. Bring back this Katy Perry and this gem and era can be reborn.
