Katrina Kaif Interview with Anupama Chopra | Zero | Film Companion

Ойын-сауық

Despite polarising views for the film Zero also starring Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif has been praised for her performance and portrayal of her character Babita Kumari. The actor talks to Anupama Chopra about how she approached the character along with her director Aanand L Rai, the joy she has now found in delving into the arc of her performances, how her career had suffered when her personal life had become her priority and how she’d like to use this platform to shape her career going forward.

Krishna Chaitanya I didn't think her Acting was great or even noteworthy at all. She was playing the typical ALR heroine and also playing herself. I hated the whole film and I didn't care about Katrina's acting. I said what few critics are saying that she's the only okayish thing in the film because the film is that bad.

Yes, he's a piece of shit. But all these comments about her being better after ranbir, are pathetic. She was sorted, mature and hard working way before she even met ranbir. She's not surviving. Shes THRIVING!She's been a female superstar for years now. She's probably the only Bollywood actress that can connect with millennials and south Asians abroad. She dances like no one can in Bollywood. Even aishwarya didn't do well in the music videos of fanney Khan but Katrina nailed it in husn parcham. Katrina is the perfect blend between the east and west. Ranbir has absolutely nothing to do with that. And he deserves NO credit for who she is, who she has become or what she has achieved. The credit goes to her and only her! SHE decided how to carve her path and what to do with the cards she was handed, not ranbir! So cut the crap.

The credit goes to Anupuma for bringing out the person she hides from the camera! Or, perhaps Katrina is in a phase of life where she's become confident in expressing herself. Great interview. What I like about film companion is, nobody cuts the other person in between, they let everybody indulge in their thought process, and that is when the truth comes out. Azy wazy Exactly. Katrina first language isn’t Hindi. And she was not born nor raised in India. Her Hindi Is getting better to me. As for accent and ppl always saying she has a fake Indian accent. It’s not true. If you life with ppl or in a country for a long time you will actually adapt to the language and culture a bit. I’m not Indian from background. But I have seen so much Bollywood films and I have tons of Indian friends that when I’m around them it sounds like I talk with a Indian accent and that’s only around them. With my family I have an Caribbean accent and with everyone else it’s just a normal New York American accent so it’s normal it just depends who you hang around a lot and the type of job you do since she’s a Bollywood actress for 15 years it’s normal to have that kinda of accent. Like Priyanka for example she actually studied here in The US for High School way before she became a actress and than did Quantico for which she had lessons on English diction. Which is why her Hindi accent isn’t as strong as Deepika accent.

She has actually acted well in Ajab Prem... and New York.. and many other movies. Chinmayi Dhotre LOL! Would you say that about a man? Would you say that shahid kapoors acting and hard work is related to kareena or mira? Get a grip. All her hard work is because of her. Will you say gauri takes credit for shah rukh khans hard work? Katrina has always been her own person. That's how she evolved from romantic comedies to improving her dancing. No one can dance like her. She's the one playing the character not salman or ranbir. Stop attaching everything to a man. A woman can be her own person even when she's in a relationship. A woman's work will not go unnoticed because of her relationship, unless she herself allows it to, is distracted or focuses more on the relationship than her work. You don't have to be single to be your own person. Obviously a supporting, motivating, understanding and inspiring partner is what you need to do your best at work without being accused of ignoring your partner.

It's no wonder he can't see what others can see. A woman's worth can only be recognised by a man of similar caliber. Ranbir is not even on the same playing field as Katrina. She's a star. He's irrelevant and he has proven that by his behaviour and his cheap attempts at targeting her. Losers focus on others. Ranbir gossips and creates drama. He's cheap. He has low habits due to lack of education. He's classless and he's not worldly. Winners focus on winning. Losers focus on winners.

She said there was a time where 70% of her focus was on other things in life and 30% on work. I know she means Ranbir from "other things in life". Saala chutiya ranbir

You can't stop hard work or ambition. Ranbir focused so much on demeaning Katrina, that he completely lost focus on himself. Instead of being inspired and becoming successful, he demeaned her out of bitterness, jealousy and spite. She's too good for him. All male superstars only praise Katrina. A woman's worth can only be recognised by an equal. A man inferior to her in any way, will only demean her to feel better about himself and his lack of achievements. Ranbir hardly had any hits. He feels entitled to other people's success, when he doesn't attain it, he feels resentful towards those people. He doesn't focus on himself. Ranbir gossips and creates drama which is a habit of low people with no goals. Successful people are successful because they focus on themselves. Winners focus on winning. Losers focus on winners. Ranbirs entire mindset and approach, is that of an uneducated low person. His petty meaningless distractions such as whatsapp groups used to gossip and create drama, are a sign of his immaturity, lack of discipline and lack of ambition and hard work. Ranbir doesn't have the mindset and habits of winners. He's mediocre and his habits are those of housewives and star plus aunties! If you want success, focus on yourself! The real world doesn't accept losers and gossipers. The real world doesn't justify abuse, belittling, low behaviour, etc. Katrina bounced back. Ranbir hardly has a movie every year. He's not a superstar by any means. Instead of blaming external factors like a sore loser, he needs to look within and ask himself if he even has the basic qualities of successful people.

I love how Katrina has evolved as a person post her break up with Ranbir. She's much more grounded, thoughtful and enlightened as a person and it really comes across in all her interviews. She is so much more candid and honest, no bullshit, clichéd answers anymore. Such an emotionally intelligent woman too, honestly way too good for Ranbir. He clearly can't handle smart, mature women. And throughout it all, she has never said one bad word about anyone including her ex. Take a bow Kat, you have turned me into a fan. Hope you continue to get awesome roles like Babita Kumari and scale greater heights.

Katrina was always grounded, mature, well spoken and hard working WAY before she even met ranbir. If ranbir was so capable, he would've become a superstar himself and reached the maturity, intellect and manners of Katrina but he hasn't been able to. He's a degenerate. He has no clue how to behave. He's not worldly at all. Look at her old interviews from her early 20's. She was always intelligent. This has nothing to do with ranbir. Stop glorifying and romanticising insecure behaviour on the parts of men. An immature selfish egoist isn't justified in his actions regardless of how the target turns out or handles the situation. You have no right to be an asshole, just because. And to say that someone turned out better after being inflicted with such treatment, is sick. You'll never hear anyone say that in a civilised enveloped country or in the real world, and that's simply because the real world doesn't justify the wrong doing of one party to another, regardless of the feelings and circumstances of the asshole! She was always better so it's understood that she turned out better. It's obvious. Not shocking at all. She had hit after hit before she even met ranbir. Ranbir knew she was a superstar. He hadn't achieved success by then and that's why he demeaned her to feel powerful. He targeted her. He is still not a superstar. He couldn't handle her stardom. He's a whimp. Yes, he's a piece of shit. All these comments about her being better after ranbir, are pathetic. Katrina has never survived in Bollywood. Shes THRIVING! She's been a female superstar for years now.

Katrina needs an intelligent, worldly, well mannered and sophisticated man who's not threatened by a working woman or a woman exercising her rights. She needs a real man. Not an immature bully who targets her and claims he's doing it to teach her lessons, only to try take credit for her hard work. Get a grip. That's sick and disgusting.

Oh God I just love this WOMAN, she's a quite articulate, mature, calm, independent, wise kind of person, she is indeed a WARRIOR, I loved how she answered and stood up for herself in the first question, she had really done some good praiseworthy characters but as she said becuz she had done some mainstream songs she get to be referred as an "ITEM DANCER" that's very disrespectful for the woman she is, people are kind of hypocrites they say why she hadn't done a strong independent woman character, for God sake have you even watch her movies? Calling her a dancer as she's not a great actress, Katrina is remembred for her dances only becuz she SLAYS every choreography given to her and I'm sure many of bollywoood actresses had done what they call "ITEM SONGS" and didn't get that much disrespect and hate, and it's very disrespectful to say she's like lucky to have a Godfather in the industry that erase and demean alot of hard and crazy work ethic and dedication she had delivered all these years people see only the surface not what's hidden behind, and I think everyone in their lives hope that they got a little help in the beginning of their career just so they can reveal they're true pontential and that's what happened to her and that's not her first praiseworthy character but one of many. Sad to see people take their time to deliver so much hate for another human being that maybe doesn't react or show their feelings but they feel it deep inside and chose to remain calm as not to be referred again as a WEAK PERSON cuz I'm sure if she did that they would say she's crying to gain compassion of people. Also I think that the language is not barrier for her and she actually did quite good learning one of the hardest and old languages and yes it takes more than 15 years to practice a language if it wasn't your mother tongue or you weren't familiar with it in your childhood. Love her potential, work ethic and persistence.

Love seeing Katrina really open up like this. I honestly always felt mixed about her but knew she she was holding back I guess she just needs that push to take up more challenging roles as well as being more confident. She’s come a far way and honestly becoming one of my favorites now. She so smart and I can understand everything she’s talking about about her experiences. She’s relatable. She has given some good performances like in New York and MBKD and more recently Tiger Zinda Hai and now especially Zero. I really hope she gets more projects where she can excel. She not just another pretty face and eye candy. I’m glad people are waking up and noticing her more. I always seen something in Katrina I knew she can act if she pushes her self more. Maybe with all she went through it’s now coming out. She isn’t guarded as she was before. Looking forward to her future projects and I hope maybe she does get into producing films. Also the hate which has been getting since the beginning and still getting is so sad and stupid. Hindi isn’t her first language and also she isn’t a star kid or come from a Star family background. She is self made and in the past 15 years have proven that with all the negativity she’s still here. She is an amazing dancer and hopefully we’ll get to see more of what she has in store when it comes to performances and characters in films. Katrina has such strength, energy and wisdom from what I see.

Katrina has always been good in roles which give her something meaningful to do and also reflect her personality. New York, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara, Baar Baar Dekho, Zero. She has to stop letting herself be eye candy and try some honest roles which are within her acting range. I have always thought she is very articulate, self aware and intelligent and that is rare in this industry.
