@nefera1804 I'm lucky in that most of my friends are online anyways. I experienced some lock down some mental health problems, but at the time I was going through loss of a friend (she met a guy and move states). We were so close that we bought a house and a car with me. It was like an unwanted divorce and it almost took me too. Not being able to going anywhere was so hard on top of it. I'm incredibly happy you survived!

I’ve had postpartum psychosis - it was SCARY… the harm was always aimed at myself though and I had to fight thoughts of extreme urges to hang myself… it was this deep urge that I needed to do it. I called the ambulance on myself and they were really good - I got medication for it and recovered but to have your own brain turn against you is another level of terrifying.

I've isolated myself for the last 9 years. Ever since the day I lost the most important thing in the entire world: my 22-month-old daughter. Yea, I've lost the late 9 years of my life. If I couldve done things differently, I would have but I couldn't. Deep, deep depression ensured that. I couldve met someone else. Had another kid. A family. Hot take but I think the monsters in in this case are the employees of the hospital and mental health facilities that refused to treat her with the level of care she clearly needed, the police department and finally the media. If I’ve learned anything from watching gratuitous amounts of true crime content it’s that Australia, Canada, and England all have criminal justice systems and a press that I wouldn’t want to live under.

As an Australian I acknowledge that our cops, justice and ?media are not perfect. Most mainstream media is owned by Murdoch, who is Australian …originally. The fact is, the majority of Australians don’t want to live in a US style police state with incarceration rates only exceeded in the world by China, with crazy sentencing and capital punishment ( we do have life imprisonment and those sentences are used for the most heinous crimes, just not almost every crime). Also we’re pretty happy police aren’t having to shoot people daily. We also have a taxpayer funded health system, which also has some problems but by anyones accounts is a million times better than the US system. These opinions aren’t just mine, they’re based on polls and hasn’t changed despite KZread and SkyFox…I guess we’re stuck with Rupert.

I am so sorry for your loss. If she, just like Kate, received adequate help for her mental issues, maybe they would both be alive today. Bit, it seems that the problem of treatment for patients who experience any kind of mental issues, is a huge problem worldwide. I am from Creator and we unfortunately have a huge problem which is mostly because of patients are too late or wrongly diagnosed with mental issues and then given no or very limited help, which is often "solved" only with strong doses of heavy medicaments and without any other treatment. Many people especially mothers are suffering with various mental issues are simply not taken seriously. It is very sad and heartbreaking

  • @andreahailey7399

This whole case is unbelievable! I think Tom really did his best but was just so trusting of his wife that he didn't recognize the danger his children were in until it was too late. ANY person who is mentally unstable is a threat to themselves and their children. You would think that's common sense but many people seem unaware of this. And that doctor? A woman tells you she thinks she's being watched through the cameras in her home and you prescribe meds to make her sleep??? You don't need a degree to know that's a sign of serious mental illness! What an idiot! The police should be ashamed and the media as well. This man will never recover from the unnecessary suffering he was put through on the worst day of his life.

Back in the 60's my Dad's first wife died in her sleep, she was an alcoholic & addicted to valium, she choked on her vomit. Coincidentally my Dad had just had all of his teeth extracted & was given sleeping pills to help him sleep that night & he didn't know she'd died until he woke up. Also, his gums had bled badly as he slept & there was blood on him, the sheets & the pillows. When he called the police/ambulance the police took one look & arrested him on suspicion of murder, they told the press they thought he'd killed her... The press then put him on the front page.! "LOCAL MAN ARRESTED FOR MURDERING WIFE".! They never apologised & the press didn't retract their story or even do a follow up to set the record straight, they just pretended it didn't happen. The police obviously held my Dad for a while until they found out the cause of death & when they released him a cop advised him "Do yourself a favour & don't buy a newspaper today"... My Dad being the awesomely chill guy he was, just took it in his stride & didn't let it bother him.!

In the 80’s, My grandfather found his son dead. My uncle died in his sleep at the age of 20. It just so happened that days prior, he had just had a full physical for his life insurance that gave him a clean bill of health. He never talked about what happened after. But I’m sure the cops made such a traumatic event so much worse. His autopsy discovered that he died of natural causes- heart problem (forgot what it’s called) that was never diagnosed. I’m so sorry your Dad went through that. It’s messed up that the local papers did him like that. I hope they updated the article after it was discovered how she died. Sometimes the police just make things so much worse. Serve and protect, my ass…when they think you’re guilty. Im sorry you went through that too.

I remember that time of lockdowns, too. The worst was that you did not know when this all would end and some rules were absolutely not rational at all. When you had no family at your place at that time, that was a real challenge. We all stayed in touch over the phone and Skype, walking on two different pavements yelling to each other. Everytime someone was critically down, we ensured each other that this will come to an end and we just have to be patient. And somehow it worked. None of us got depressions because of Corona. In this case here I have the feeling that she was able to handle life before Corona but when she lost control of what she was allowed to do it took her mental illness rapidly to a higher and final stage.

Omg mad compassion for this couple, during the lockdown Australia looked like one of the worst places (apart from China) for the treatment of its citizens. I’m from the UK and we didn’t have nearly the same level of brutality and paranoia but it still sent my mental health sideways. I actually had to take a break from this channel after 2021 because I spent all lockdown watching This is Monsters and the intro began to make my mind feel off whenever I heard it, it was nuts! Back to regular binge watching now though ;) I did have more than one complete mental breakdown involving tears, stress, arguments with my bf, paranoia, hatred for others, depression, massive anxiety and a complete detachment from reality. That was the scariest part, feeling as though what’s real wasn’t real and that life wasn’t actually life but more of a sleep one couldn’t escape. The whole pandemic was a massive human rights violation and I’m so glad you’ve covered this case. I’d be very interested in more stories like this.

What made me angry was the NSW police commander talking down to citizens as if they were children, all because people were desperate to go out and deal with their livelihoods and the imminent threat of losing their mortgages/homes. It disgusted me to the core. It was a total disconnect with the people. That's what convinced me that people in power are sociopaths and couldn't care less about who they are supposed to be serving. They are ensuring _we_ are serving them.

I'm from Australia, the lock downs here in NSW were terrible ....yet even we felt bad for them in Vic. The government went into fear control (controlling with fear) and the people were literally prisoners in their own homes. Full of stress with no money and home schooling kids plus trying to find a job from home to not lose a house. It was a hard time. So glad and god willing everyone I love is safe just extremely stressed still as we still not back to the norm (have to wear masks to doctors etc)

I worked as a crisis counselor during the whole pandemic. It really did a number on a lot of people, especially kids. However, I'm of the opinion that there was never a "good" option with the response to the pandemic. I think decisions were made out of fear and based on insufficient evidence due to the fact you just can't study a lot of stuff until a lot of time has passed. I think a big part of it is it's much easier to link people who actually died from COVID than possible increases in suicide rates and such. I definitely think that mental health should have had a larger consideration in the policy making process, but I can understand their thinking at the time.

I also giggled at Jiles’ pronunciation of Tullamarine 😂 and good lord, I can absolutely relate to your experience with phoning lifeline. I’ve lived with a delightful plethora of severe mental illnesses for decades, one night I needed someone to talk to, just talk to really, and I’m estranged from my family. I had to wait on hold for 20 minutes before I got through to someone, after about ten minutes on the phone to them I was frustrated by the fact that they were bloody useless, then the call dropped out. I phoned back, crazy long wait time again, so I was like, stuff it I’ll just go to bed. They had my mobile number from phoning them, they didn’t try calling ME back, instead they used my mobile number to look up my address and next thing I wake up to the police LITERALLY bashing my front door open because lifeline had told them it was an emergency with exigent circumstances because I’d probably killed myself. Which was not anything I’d suggested overtly or suggested at in my phone call to them. It’s fair to say I was NOT happy with that response, especially because they STILL stuck me in an ambulance and took me to the ER just in case I was lying about not having taken anything and having no intentions at that time of harming myself, whilst of course my terrace was unattended with NO FRONT DOOR ATTACHED. Lifeline had my number obviously since that’s how they got all the ridiculousness happening but they didn’t try phoning, nor did the cops, not even a knock on the door wellness check, just ram my door in off its hinges. Goes without saying, I have never bothered with lifeline since.

I am surprised there weren't more lockdown murders. Horrible to say, but it doesn't surprise me that people who were already suffering with mental illness completely broke in those months. Here is SA, we were completely shut in our homes for months on end, with police patrolling the streets to ensure you were out only with a pass. I was one of those people whose business was entirely shut down, so no income with the bank hounding me for payments I simply couldn't make, while trying to home school my daughter and deal with my husbands depression, all the while worrying about our elderly parents as all of them where in some form employed in emergency services and therefor subjected to the virus daily. In fact, my mom worked in the emergency department of our local hospital as a covid intake nurse. That mental load, day in and day out nearly broke me. I remember just loosing it on my poor daughter one day. Just absolutely slamming doors and breaking stuff over something silly. She was terrified of me at that point, and I have never suffered mentally, so even for me this was scary and out of norm. If it nearly broke me that bad, how much worse was it not on those poor souls who already suffered and then had no support as everyone else was just trying to survive as well. 😢

These people did attrocious things and should definitely be held responsible by the legal system, as the victims DO deserve justice. But I hope the take away from this will be that we cannot underestimate the need and validity of mental health care. If support was in place and not taken away in those months a lot could have been different for a lot of people. In the future, should we ever suffer a global pandemic again, I hope this time taught the system that mental health care cannot be left at the way side, until we have recovered. I could have definitely use some proper mental health care in that time. And I cannot help but think that if she was given the care needed, her children might still be alive. At the end of the day we are not talking about a true monster here who are just horrible and liked to do what they did, we are talking about a suffering person who did something absolutely monstrous to her innocent children who deserved so much better.

The police in Australia are getting just as F'd up as they are in some states of the USA. To begin berating a suspect about the death of his own dead family is purely disgusting. The media are PoS here. They all think that an apology magically fixes things. No. Australia needs a revolution in Policing and Media. It needs to be tightly controlled.

Katie is not the Monster in this story, the police in how they treated her husband are the Monsters, the Hospital employees are Monsters, and maybe even her boss. If Katie had done something that was so bad and detrimental to the company she worked for, then her boss should have exposed those actions by Katie to her Husband so he would be fully aware of her mental condition. To call Katie the Monster is equal to calling a person with diminished Mental capacities such as mental retardation guilty of committing murder....... As usual Jiles, your work is always top notch!!!!! Please Keep Staying Healthy and to all your Family and Friends, Be Well!!!!!! (Do I have the spelling of your name correct?)

Hello Jiles... Your channels are great,,....both of them. If anyone should have a ton of subs..it should be you. I have watched just about every utube person that puts out videos. I concluded that only very few put their true emontions into their videos. Not all go back into the person's history and its nice to know about the past of people you speak. I can tell you put a lot of work into your videos. Thank you Jiles.🌼💙

I find it astounding that I live in Victoria, Australia and have never heard this storey. The impact of the lock downs in Victoria were some of the worst in the world. I know there are many more stories like this one that the government has tried to hide.Domestic violence and suicide are all some things hidden from Victorians.

I don't think it's clear from this video, but Katie murdered her children by stabbing them in the back, according to ABC news. That's absolutely brutal. She then stabbed herself. She had the presence of mind to wait until her husband was gone, so even if she wasn't a monster before, she definitely turned into one as she murdered her innocent children. I can't even begin to imagine their terror as she plunged the knife into their little bodies. RIP, Matthew, Claire, and Anna.

This was my home state, and I had a great issue with the mental health card they played for her and the lock downs. I've had clinical depression and anxiety for 30 yrs, were the lockdowns hards, hell yes, brutal. But you were still able to go outside and exercise and meet with one other person for mental well-being. Having a child with ASD/ADHD and attempting home-schooling was impossible, so we ended it, I'm not a teacher and not an expert in dealing with a child with special needs, so we did life skill tasks, cooking, he helped me with home renovations etc. I was doing it alone, as my partner was stuck in another state working. The only person to blame is her, she chose to do what she did!

Seriously? She had severe mental health issues , was suicidal & had a psychotic break. If you know anything about mental health, psychotic breaks mean all logic has left the building. There's no reasoning or rational thought process left. She sought help , but was failed by the system.

I agree! There's no excuse for what she did. Many people suffered through the lockdowns and lifestyle changes because of it but not everyone murdered their children. I don't think she was seriously trying to get help, I think she was trying to placate her husband. If she had been honest with her thoughts and delusions, I think doctors would have taken more drastic measures. It's really sad people like this take out their children with them, rather than just themselves.

Definitely necessary. However I don’t think there was literally one person on earth who had had any type of prior experience in planning for or dealing with a worldwide pandemic. Seems like everyone, including leaders and police, just kinda made what they thought were good decisions at the time. Hindsight is seriously a MF.

I don't see her as a monster. Mental illness is a sad state. I learned as a kid when a neighbor killed 3 of her 5 kids, thinking she was protecting them from communism, mental illness is not a choice. The doctors were able to save and institutionalize her. Her family was able to forgive her and visit often. Thank you for all the videos. They are quite the eye openers.

A lot of people suffer endlessly thanks to mental illnesses everyday yet very easily have never ever harm other people beside maybe themselves. The second that you harm and KILL another fellow human being, no matter the amount and layers of delusions you might be having at the moment is when you rightfully earn the title of being a monster and justice should be administered.

I failed to mention, she had also shot herself in the head. She had been receiving mental care, however the warning sign was not there that she would do this. One of the children was sharing with her that they were learning about communism in history class days prior to the event. She ended up in a wheelchair with no memory of what she did and was child like. Her husband and the remining children continued to see her for year's.
