Katie Couric joins U.Va.'s 2012 Graduates in a "Wahoowah!"
Journalist Katie Couric bonds with the University of Virginia's 2012 graduates by joining in a "Wahoowah!," the University's celebrated cheer. As a 1979 U.Va. alum, it's easy for Couric to share the enthusiasm.
She also shares some advice, telling graduates to prepare for the three 'Rs' -- risk, rejection and resilience. Graduates will need to take risks going forward, they will face rejection, and they must be resilient in continuing to forge ahead.
In a particularly touching note, she mentions the resilience of Lynette Jones, a graduate in the College of Arts & Sciences, who is undergoing treatment for cancer. Lynette gets a huge round of applause from classmates, and she's clearly grateful that she's able to be part of today's ceremony and celebration.

I have worn the honors of honor, I have graduated from the University of Virginia. Katie Couric made my graduation day even more memorable. Wahoowa!
She was absolutely amazing. Loved the speech just as much watching it again here. Katie is person to be admired and respected ( and loved ). :-)
I saw this live, and loved it! Terrific speaker, and great advice.
Way to go Katie!! Loved this. Thanks for sharing!
She is the best!
It doesn't look, if the latest news is true, that Couric will join Barbara Walters in longevity on the small screen. Something's just not working. And maybe Couric should make some realistic assessments about her future. That fit she had with Gumbel just isn't there in any of her successive projects.
Oh Come On. Get over it! She was absolutely right and said it like it was, and is. Nothing she said was overblown or really feminist, but it was humanist. Katie was spot on, and some people need to do some self examination to find out why her funny comments about things she has actually gone thru, upset them so. Really! Insecurity breeds Inability! Just saying... WTG Katie.
Jeez. Even she said it was feminist, but she is celebrating the revolution our country is going through! Maybe you could be a little bit more respectful.
