meravigliosa! Dizione scolpita, voce di madreperla di bellezza unica, legato perfetto, poesia innata. La storia di questa sua prima Norma a Trieste nel novembre del 1986 fu la seguente. Katia fu chiamata a Parigi per un grande concerto di beneficenza il giorno prima del debutto in Norma. lei andò e il trionfale concerto finì che tra programma e bis cantò 22 arie! il giorno dopo viaggiò e arrivò a Trieste stravolta. La prima, ovviamente, non andò bene e una parte del pubblico fu crudele. Ma lei, dalla seconda recita, dimostrò di essere anche una Norma di gran livello. E questo primo atto lo dimostra benissimo!

En réalité, Katia Ricciarelli était programmée de longue date à Paris le 16 11 1986 au théâtre Mogador (2 jours avant cette Norma de Trieste). Elle était très en voix mais le récital a été peut être le plus court donné par elle à Paris kzread.info/dash/bejne/X5N6ubNsgbWtntY.html ( 17 airs très exactement = 10 seulement au programme et 7 bis). Pour ma part, je trouve sa Norma très belle et très émouvante.

Not an ideal voice for Norma but there is much beautiful singing here.

Not the perfect Norma, but there are clearly moments of Bel Canto here. I have never completely understood the fury towards Ricciarelli, in light of the fact that the Russian is nowadays being forgiven for dreadful performances. AMEN

The Russian has NO idea about belcanto singing. Indeed, she declined singing Norma, hopefully... Katia had a much more refined voice than the Russian. Unfortunately, she sang too many heavy roles not suited for her angel voice.
