Speaking as an Aussie, I fully credit Kate Winslet as the most convincing non-Aussie playing an Aussie in film history. See also - Holy Smoke. It's not just the accent. She really gets the essence of being Australian.

Meryl was pretty good in Evil Angels, but Kate is wonderful in anything she does.

I agree! I'm Aussie and always laugh at actors attempts at the Aussie accent. But kate did amazingly!

Kate is good friends with Nicole Kidman, so Kate probably talks with Nicole when Kate does films like this and ‘Holy Smoke!’ and gets advice and coaching from Nicole.

It's very close between Kate and Robin Wright, Robin was in "Adoration" (2013) she does an excellent Australian accent.

This was a terrific movie, but no doubt quite challenging role for Kate Winslet. She not only had to get the Aussie accent right - which she did, but also the complex psychology of her character Tilly. That was no mean feat. Tilly was classy and beautiful, but with a streak of the malicious in her. Why did she come back? Well, the opening lines said it all: "I'm back you bastards". She was out to punish those who destroyed her childhood and ruined her mother's life. Terrific ensemble cast. Judy and Hugo obviously relished acting in their own backyard with one of the world's greats . If you haven't seen it, do.

She does a great kiwi accent!
