Omgosh! It took me ages to realise that Kate, is the invisible Mrs Columbo from the "Columbo" series! Even the dog wasn't an instant giveaway!!!😂

Omg that senator is Fox Mulder’s dad! And that’s apt because 20 years later a smart character like this would probably be an FBI agent instead of a part time reporter. Great episode!

It's so wonderful to see this talented actress, and she went on to play the imposing cook at a women's prison in 'Orange is the New Black'

Kate is great

Very apt for what happened where I live a few years ago. Journalist, corruption, car bomb .

Another great episode!!!!

Dang.... didn't even have a period of grieving till moving on to a new relationship..;

I found this was a bit light weighted at the start of the series as Mrs Colombo but it has improved with Kate Mystery stamp. A good move on the part of both the producers and writes.

Both series of this show had frequent uses of campiness. I don't recall (even though I'm really only catching any of this show but the 1st episode for the 1st time) which episode, but there was 1 where the "bad girl" (probably Season 1, Episode 4 now that I think about it) tries, lije, 4X 2 kill her husband, but gets interrupted by something each time. Also not sure which movie, but I saw the same "device" in a classic where a vintage comic or comedy team meets monsters, or is among villains, or something. For my money, Kate should've been around in this role for more than just 2 seasons! This show was much better acted, wrotten, & produced than many shows that DID become huge hits in those days!,

I liked this show. As folks have indicated -- if it had just started as "Kate Loves a Mystery", it would have had more of a chance. Although I think the "Mrs. Columbo" aspect is pretty fun... it just didn't really work. I mean Columbo is one of the most well loved characters!! *We want to see him* I think that the original idea would only work if the Lt. had died. Thank goodness he didn't, because we got all of the fun movies in 90s after Peter Falk came back :D

This is the only episode of season 2 that was called Kate the Detective. Episodes 1 and 3-8 were all called Kate Loves a Mystery.

The producers wanted to ride the coat-tails of one of their most popular characters , so Mrs Columbo was born or named . Probably backfired because the audience may have been too protective of Peter Falk's C .

No she was.in the beginning.but i guess Columbo was getting all the credit.so she change her last name.and its call a Kate likes mystery.and made it hers

peter falk was not happy about this show and the mrs columbo referance as in columbo she was just heard about, talked about never ever seen, and think about it, Mrs columbo was not working as a reporter, she certainly didnt investigae anything, and i dont remember there ever being a daughter mentioned, so when they did this spin off they took columbos wife and changed her in to a very different person and that was so wrong

I don't think they ever mentioned her work or pasttimes on Columbo. Also, there was still a Mrs. Columbo in the 2nd series. It could be said, tho, that he remarried. Anyways, if they divorced, it obviously doesn't mean she was never married to him. And I don't see why they wanted to distance this series from Columbo. There was nothing wrong with her being Mrs. Columbo.

Im confused is she still married to Columbo?

If I remember correctly, she's supposed to have been divoced between season 1 and 2 and has taken on her maiden name again - Kate Callahan.

She is divorced. In one of the episodes it is mentioned. I don't remember which one.

She got divorced and changed back to her maiden name, because people were always confusing her with the “other Mrs. Columbo”. I guess we were supposed to forget that she had been driving Columbo’s car and taking care of his dog in the first season.

I think they called all of the rebroadcasts to Mrs. Columbo to make the series seem more fluent. There is an NBC promo from the second season premiere calling the show Kate Loves a Mystery. Someone uploaded an opening from the original 1979 airing with that same title.

In 1 scene she calls her editor 'Dad' and he's refered to as her father. Weird. His last name is Alden, not Callahan. The rest of the time he's just her editor n she calls him Josh.

She called him dad because they were working on a story. They didn't want the guy they were talking to knowing the are reporters.

Isn't Kate an absolute bitch for putting herself in grave danger without a little thought about her daughter? The poor thing already got abducted once, in the 1st series. Where is her motherly instinct?
