This referee needs to be in a different line of work. He was obsessive about the potential cage-grabbing, despite not really seeing any, and he was *constantly* getting in the way of the fighters, not moving out of their way, forcing them to grapple *AROUND* his stupid ass.

Joshua Jones After re-watching, I get the impression the ref may be a failed fighter. It really looks like he wants to be the one fighting, and he wants all the eyes on him. A good ref in combat sports is like a shadow- you'll never find him in your way, and the fighters shouldn't even be aware of his presence until breaks or rule issues arise. This guy was looking for an opportunity to get everyone to look at him. In his head, it's not about the fighters, it's *his* cage, *his* fight, and *his* glory, fighters be damned. I believe referees at this high level should be required to have some combat sport experience. One of the reasons Herb Dean excels (usually) is because he actually had some fights and is well trained. He understands what it's like to be in a cage where he's literally putting his life and his career into the hands of the officiator.

B DeWit could all very well be true. It was pretty obvious he was taking himself too seriously and was being a little overly pretentious. Even guys like John McCarthy annoy me with their authoritarianism in the cage, looking to assert their authority with the fighters and showboat their position as a ref. This ref struck me as a rookie with a combination of wanting to make a name for himself while displaying ignorant inexperience. Perfectly agree with your assertion on this. I was gonna comment much the same until I saw your comment.

Vanessa R Not only does she hit like a freight train, but she's extremely quick with the accuracy of a laser beam. Her ground defence is just as impressive. Watching her take people apart is frightening!

The referee is nought but a fu----ing pest.

That referee is so unprofessional, wtf... You're not supposed to be in the fighters' way like that, you can see if there's fence grabbing from a slightly longer distance too. It's not like the fighters will continuously attempt to break the rules when you're not stalking their every waking move from every possible angle.

writing in all caps doesn't make your point better. It makes you sound foolish. That ref was not only getting in the way but *pulling on the fence* as they were leaning on it and other things like that. Super unprofessional.

Dlaczego Polacy w ten sposób komentują...oglądałem późniejsze walki i po angielsku zupełnie inaczej to brzmi, analizują po prostu walkę, jarają się wszystkimi akcjami. A tu? Przynajmniej pierwsza runda, klincz im się nie podoba, zarzucają Asi, że nie ma pomysłu, nie dają wiary i inne takie malkontenctwo. Serio irytujące.

Love love love this woman, she has changed women's MMA to another level, and I believe Joanna will be holding her title for many years to come. Joanna, you deserve everything in life and more, such an amazing & talented fighter and beautiful too. From one of your biggest fans, you Joanna are a game changer.

This reff must have lost a fight to a guy that grabbed the cage alot, because there's no reason anybody should *EVER* be this obsessed with cage grappling to the point of slapping hands off of it as soon as it is touched.

Joanna is crazy good.

the ref should've docked a point on JJ for grabbing the fence instead of slapping her hand off the cage repeatedly.

I watched Kate fight Paulina Bonkowska so I know she can box. But no way she's going toe-to-toe with Jedrzejczyk. The hold and clench was her only option, forcing Jedrzejczyk to grapple. But Joanna was way too strong. I'd like to see Kate fight Esparza or Penne.

This is actually one of the closest fights Joanna's been in. Kate's conditioning is not bad and she matches Joanna's aggressive style. A few tweaks and she would have given her trouble. She needs to have her head on the outside to score a takedown instead of plowing straight ahead with her head in Joann's crotch. She also needed to polish up on her "rolls"...she had decent wrist control, but didn't capitalize on it.

Exactly! Who plays into their opponents strength? It's the same way a football team reviews film or a coach preps for an opponent. You spy a weakness and work around it. Joanna is great at closing the distance on fighters so that she is "her" striking range. She is an aggressor. She is has great striking speed and accuracy. Take that away and she will have to move to her next strength to regain her composure. Look at Carla. She's an aggressive striker (same as Joanna, but no where near as good). What happened when she faced an opponent in those categories?...she defaulted to wrestling. Unfortunately for her, that's all she had and the world saw the results of that (defeat). If a fighter can't keep proper distance (no straw can out box Joanna), outpace or get Joanna on the ground...they will never beat her.
