I can't complain about the drum sound like others. It is the flaws that make this album so memorable. Perfection is not beauty to my senses; it's boring, like a perfectly symmetrical face with no identity. Imperfection is authentic beauty.

Could anyone care to recommend albums with tracks similar sounding (bearing an utterly melancholic mood) to the ones on this album? Popular albums suggestions in the same vein probably won't help 'cause it's very likely that I had listened to them already -- Opeth's Morningrise and October Tide's debut album were sonically the closest i had listened to this date. I'm so madly in love with this record but unfortunately can't find enough time out of my daily schedule to look around for similar albums or artists. Thank you so much in advance!!!!🙂

Rapture from Sweden are probably the closest to the Katatonia sound. Gallows is a great track if you like the Brave Murder Day era and I Am Complete if you prefer the Last Fair Deal Gone Down style. Opeth's Blackwater Park is also a masterpiece. Atoma's Skylight album and Slumber's Fallout albums are also remarkable. Lacrimas Profundere - Helplessness from the album Memorandum is probably the most melancholic. Nobody touches Katatonia but these act come close. Also, if you're into Middle Eastern flavours, Orphaned Land - Mabool album is incredible, not as melancholic but very huge in scale and biblical in themes. Hope these songs can fill your week!

I'm also a huge fan of this album and have had a hard time finding anything close to it because it's a combination of different genres. You have the Death Metal growls, the Rock/Grunge moody sound, melodic solos, and the rather strange Shoe Gaze/dream pop type of influence. For me nothing is like this album, but I found a similar moods in Dark Wave, for example Drab Majesty, Lebanon Hanover, and in Rock bands like Seether, Staind and even some Nirvana. Also check out early Kent, they were a huge influence for Katatonia during this time: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oo5rzqmhhpTOgdI.html
