"KATANA" UPGRADED - FJ80 80 Series LAND CRUiSER gets New Brains | ROC HOBBY

Get One Here on Amazon: amzn.to/3qT49HR This is a 1/18 scale FJ80 "80 Series" Land Cruiser - (it was available in the US from 1990 to 1997), called the 'Katana" from ROC HOBBY. The noise form the stock electronic speed control and receiver is hideous and I want to swap it out. The only issue?! It a combo.. and I will need a SMALL ESC and SMALL Receiver. I hunt through my stuff and bust out the TEKIN BXR ESC made for small RC models.. and it fit PERFECTLY with my Spektrum SR515 5 CH RX. Now, to get it all in there.. and see if it makes any difference..

    Nice! In my opinion, that's the best version of the Land Cruiser. The 80 series, it was available in the US from 1990 to 1997. Would love to have one of these 1/18 scales, I'm loving my 1/24th, but I think a 1/18 would be a little bit more usable outside.

    Doggone it, I love that Little truck, but for now, I love my 1967 Chevy pickup 1/24. Went out with it first time Sunday , my friends at backyard crawler addicts on Facebook. It was their fifth year anniversary of being in RC, and there course they start building, the last three years I've had the pleasure being part of . When I first got back into the hobby 2012 I had nobody for 4 years , just me myself and I, and your videos. Now I have places to go, and have met a lot of great people. And I will always forever be grateful to you medic. For inspiring me back into the hobby. Thank you. You and your family have a great holiday season

    With all these 1/18 scales, I'm still waiting for the first Teton to show up. Aaron, now you're talking my line of work. The reason the whine was so loud is that the vibrations making the whine were transmitted into the body shell. The hood being up had very little to do with the volume, because the vibrations in the entire body were being converted to acoustical energy. Much of this is due to the screws keeping the body firmly attached. A cheaper solution would be to convert to a looser hold-down system & turf the screws.

  • @poppygoatshomestead

    @poppygoatshomestead

    3 жыл бұрын

    Its not just a shell though Al, it has a complete bolted interior, which would deaden the vibration. And the BOX aka engine bay definitely amplified the sound of the ESC/RX combo. That had nothing to do with the body harmonics, brudda!

    Have you considered putting a thin rubber O-ring between the body mount and body as well as a single layer of Gorilla Tape around the transmission clearance tunnel on the floorpan as well as the inside of the fender wells. Maybe it would serve as good dampening and breakdown some of the accoustics. Sorry I'm late to the show! Been on Christmas Vacation for a couple weeks!

    If it bothers you check for spots where the motor and trans actually contact the body directly. In a real car we chase noises that way. If you find a spot then file it down or put a little rubber in there to isolate it. Also try some small o rings between the body and the frame where the screws hold it down.

    If you ask me, 1/18-16 got their attention way before 1/24s ... with all the chinese (wpl, etc...) models out there....the only problem with them beeing that you have to instantly upgrade the transmission's and electronics (they get broke after 1-2 uses), otherwise ...they have pretty good looking/scale hard shells and for the price...i see you guys didnt use/know them.
