I understand completely. I'm 74 and have been living by myself for the last 25 years with Chow Chows. I've been married twice and I've had several live-in girlfriends. I don't miss any of them! But I miss every one of my departed dogs.

I was living alone with My female Chow "Marble" when people wearing masks kept making her act bothered so they called animal control kept her in a little cage for 90 days tortureing me then killing my 3yr super dog!! F Mojave country!!!

Non-dog people have no idea the joy we dog-people/pet-people have. But, when it comes to dealing with people, give me pet owners every time!

My girl Katchina is my everything. I got her when she was 8 weeks old. And now she is 8 years old. I was diagnosed with schizophrenia 4 years ago and Katchina is so close to me she became my service dog. She has the paper work and goes into grocery store and any other store with me. She's a pitbull, but wouldn't hurt a fly. She loves tum tum rubbins and I always have an electric blanket for her on the bed. I don't even want to think about that time when it comes when it's her time. I'm 40 years old and katchina is the love of my life.

I had a very young pretty little black kitten show up. I fed him milk and a little cat food as he was so small. He is so loving. I think he sees me as Mama. Lol!

What a wonderful gift our pets are to us! They love unconditionally even when we are not at our best. And just like friends and family the day will come when they may leave us. But always remember, we will always have their memories to cherish and our lives are so much better for it.

My ex wife's mothers cat lived to be 24 years old. Good luck KAT!!

I completely understand. My Aussie rescued me when I was at my weakest. Yet, he showed up in my garage 4 yrs ago, needing desperate help himself. We brought each other out of darkness. I could never imagine not having him.

I'm older and have my 4th dog now. The first 2 grew up with my son. They were cremated and I had combined their ashes in a little wooden pet urn. When my son unexpectedly passed away, I placed the little urn at his feet in the casket. The ashes of my 3rd pup are here at my home and the 4th pup is sitting beside me right now. When my time comes, I have it in writing that, just as with my son, the remains of #3 & #4 will go in my casket to be buried with me.

When I lost my Jack (all black feral cat) it took months to get over him. 5 years later I still cry.

I have my deceased dog's ashes in her favorite room of our house, a picture on the fridge and her paw print on my dresser. I do plan to have her buried with me when the time comes. I will miss her the rest of my life. Do what you need to Kat.

My dog lived 18 yrs never once going to the vet for anything but rabies shots. He ran 10 miles most everyday ate the cheapest dog food on the market. And never once came inside for more then 5 minutes in the winter time he was a very happy and healthy dog. When it was his time to go I let him go. You nutty people need to understand there in your lives for a short time you need to enjoy that enjoy the memories but let them go you bunch of whacked of your minds freaks.

My boston terrier fred is 13, he is my best buddie. I know i don't have to much time left with him, just based on how old he is already. I am so scared of losing him, and how i will react. Pets are truly part of the family. My condolences for your loss. I am trying to gain as much knowledge as i can about grieving the loss of a pet, so when it happens to me, i am more prepared.

OMG! My husband is worse than I am. He is bereft with tears when we've lost a dog and our older one is getting near and my husband just sobs and sobs at the thought of losing our Mr. Chow. You go Kat!!

Kat is so "weird" hot that this actually makes perfect sense😂😂😂

Our cat is obsessed with us too. He is a skinny orange tabby and wants to be around us all the time especially my spouse. He has an amazing personality and so smart plus he acts like a dog with his loyalty. We didn’t even plan to get him, his owners passed away in hospice two days apart and the estate seller talked us into taking him, but he picked us. He wanted us to pet him when we first saw him and had been with us ever since.

I totally understand Kat. I love my cats more than anything. Unfortunately, my cat Poe died suddenly back in 2018 and that destroyed me. He died 2 weeks before his 10th birthday. Then sadly, just this past Wednesday (March 22, 2023), I had to have my cat Goldie put down. I’m still crying over that. We knew his journey was getting closer to an end but I didn’t expect it so soon. My other 2 cats are roaming the house as if they’re looking for him which is breaking my heart even more. So, I totally get how Kat feels. I think if I could afford to have their ashes tattooed on my body somewhere, I would. Kat, your cat is only 13, she can live a lot longer. My cat that meant the world to me, because of how much of our lives had been shared, he lived to be 20 yrs old. It makes me sad t o reminisce.

I never knew how much a dog can mean to somebody until I turned 70 and was forced to accommodate my daughter's dog, a Australian female red-heeler called Memphis. I love this dog so much and when my daughter moved out and took Memphis with her, I cried like a baby.

I will tell you what to , love them all the while as they are with us. When its time to go its time to go. Been with me forever ,not like I am 13 and cannot go forward . My cats are18 and still hanging out. I thought thier nine lives were over long ago and they are still happy to see today . Give thanks , do your best and let them go. They like to sleep allot and eat till they are content

I had never heard of the Tattoo thing Cat brought up, but I will do it now that I know it can be done. My 12 year old yellow lab passed on and I swore NO MORE DOGS, until my Wife showed up at work with a blanket claiming she brought me a present on a non birthday/non holiday day. When I unwrapped the blanket, there was the cutest smiling face of a dog I swore I’d NEVER own, but I have now had my baby girl for 10 months. I also left her the way God made her, a Pit-Bull with a long healthy tail and full ears. Ion Fleming was right ‘Never say never again’ Hold to your feelings Cat, get the tattoo!!!

Pitbulls are a lab result. God made dogs...not pitbulls. Many dogs today are genetically manipulated and pitbulls are created for fighting.., is just didn't worked out the way they intended...(Fortunately) Cutting a pitbull's tail and ears off, as you mentioning it in your comment, is for that exact same reason...fighting.

I'm on Long Island and my step brother owns a tattoo shop, when my cat passed away I told him I wanted to exactly what Kat is suggesting. He told me most shops wouldn't do something like that because it's possible when you mix the ink and ashes together, your skin could get infected. This was 3 years ago, so I am unsure if things have changed where they have made a different type of ink to prevent infection but luckily my tattoo with my cat's ashes never got infected.

Your dog has been through so much with you ONLY BECAUSE YOU KEEP IT LOCKED IN YOUR HOME. It has no other choice, but it knows you feed it, so it follows you around begging for food, and you interpret that as "unconditional love". As the other commenter said.... "seek help".

I got two cats at 19. They passed 19 years later when I was 38. I completely understand where Kat is coming from. While I would not tattoo my body, they hold such a significant place in my heart and my story, they will never be forgotten. Never.

Our pets are now our kids and family

Thanks for today's Fun Topic! Our kitty is adorable & naugty I thought of writing a children's book about her. She flushes the toilet, turns on water faucets, opens and closes our garage door, brings you her favorite toys and plays fetch with you, wants to sit in the warm water in the bathtub while you're in the tub 😮 and when I am sick wraps her front legs around my feet and hugs them❤ till I fall asleep. She has to be next to you at all times participating, as I cook she sits on the lid of our trash can watching. She greets guests at the backdoor and we believe she'd host a 🍽 dinner party if we let her! 🎉 She's a Turkish Van mix. She had a rough start in life being born outside and being found with siblings by her dead mom. We are so blessed & thankful to have her in our lives. ❤️

I love my dogs like most people do but they just respect and love you back unconditionally. And don't answer back like my teenage kids 😂 Nearly forgot about the stray cat that I started feeding then letting in the house when it was cold and now stays here but he's absolutely no problem and I feel like he really respects the warm home and food. And has made great friends with my bullys. So he's part of the family too now lol

I now love Kat even more after watching this ❤ animals > people. Totally understand, our cats are 7 & 21 and may they live forever.

I love talking about my snek boys there incredibly soothing. Clutch is quiet and strong. Caution is young and he acts like a flirt. 🐍 pythons aren't scary unless you a mouse 🐭😂

Glad to know it's common. I'm frequently caught by neighbors talking to my dog who has run around the other side of the house so he's not there as am speaking to him. My neighbors just smile.

I am totally guilty. I had to put one of my 3 cats down in January 2023. I had her privately cremated so I knew I got only her ashes back and bought a special cat urn for her. There is enough room for my other two cats when I have to put them down too.

I'm sorry you had to say goodbye. I'm sure everyone is still in shock. We lost 2 cats in a short time. But with our last cat we found a vet who made house calls. She came and patiently let us say our goodbyes to him, and he died in my daughter's arms. When we were ready, she took him with her. And she brought his ashes back a few weeks later. The loss was still devastating-but we felt his last moments weren't as traumatic as they would have been taking him somewhere. It still sucks though. A few years went by and I went with my daughter to pick up another cat in WY. Bughoul is her name and she healed a lot of sorrow. She's with my ex right now, b/c my daughter died last year. I hope he might let me have her eventually. She's kind of a support animal for him now😢

Kat, I understand how you feel about your cat. I had two very awesome tabbies back to back, but Rocky was the best cat ever and we went through a lot of trying times together. I once slept in the ice plants on a slope next to my apartment all night waiting for my Rocky to come home after a neighbor's dog chased him away. I loved him dearly and it crushed me when I had to put him down. I'll tell you the truth, one night a few weeks after Rocky had passed, he came to me, hopping up onto the bed and snuggling up against me and I got to see him once more and I think his spirit was trying to tell me that it was alright and he was just fine now. I know, crazy cat lady, but I loved him so very much.

One Monday 20yrs ago, I came home from work to find a lovely Black Tuxedo female cat on my porch whining imperiously. I put fresh water out for her, petted her, & went in to make dinner & chill. No sign of her the following morning but, when I got home that evening, there she was! I watered her again & went in. I'd lost a dear cat previously; I wasn't even thinking about replacing my dear Solomon! Every night 'til Friday, she was on the porch when I arrived. Friday night, she literally tried to block me from entering & howled as if to say, "Let me in, you ninny; I'm moving in. Get it!" Oh! Ok, come on in. The Vet estimated she was 2yrs old. The beginning of this month (March 2023), she passed away. She'd lived 22 years with me, ruling the roost like she owned the place. 24yo! R.I.P. EmmaLee! Rest in Peace, Sweet Girl!

I completely understand Kat.. I lost my Max (golden retriever) 4 yrs ago and there’s not a day I don’t think about him.. I spent over 80,000 from my pension to save his life twice and I will never regret it.. He gave me so much happiness and joy that I will never forget..

Pets have replaced children. I’m an animal lover and my children grew up with a house full…but NOTHING replaces children and grandchildren. They’re harder in some ways but worth it!
