LMAO! Norton??? Kaspersky beats Norton by a long-shot. They're not even comparable. But hey, a sponsorship is a sponsorship, regardless of the disinformation.

agreed to norton. It was good for a short while back in winXP times and it's long forgotten now. But then again, in my country people genuinely believe everything russian is a spyware so they don't trust kaspersky. Well their loss I guess.

@@lumikarhu I've heard some Americans claiming that. But even if Kaspersky was owned by the Russian government, honestly I'd trust Russia more than the Western pedophile governments.

Norton has been known to put a miner inside their own software that uses your pc. Their protection also to take doesn't even come close to Kaspersky.

@crylune no need to doubt. People like to purchase the full feature package and these are exactly the ones who take control over the machine. It silently can block old protocols, disable webcam access and show popup messages everytime for trivial actions. And guess what? They think got a virus. Kaspersky is an awesome product, for sure. But people still looking for a miraculous silver bullet.

Ehhh....Defender gets beaten up or tricked pretty easily by more advanced malware, much more so than Kaspersky, or the likes of Bitdefender or Avira. Also Defender works very poorly offline, and this matters because if you suspect that your PC got hacked or infected, you should automatically disconnect it from the Internet and local network. But then Defender will be pretty much useless, while all the better 3rd party AVs have some method or download to deal with that situation.

not true defender is that bad when offline. I mean it's pretty easy to evade overall but while the online protection feature exists, whether you're online or not doesn't play a big role in immediate detection. Otherwise it would be common practice to block off defender from the internet with firewall rules coming from a malware. I test the malware i write offline and then use paid online scans that don't redistribute my uploads - the only thing that matters is that an online defender will quickly send over heuristics of something new in the wild back to microsoft to update while the offline one will not. And that can be helpful - mostly to others, less to yourself.

but i agree that bringing an update to defender while you're not online is not something it's done while updating other AVs works well this way. Kinda like bringing Malwarebytes to a disconnected PC is probably the best and fastest thing you can do

Defender loses. Sure, it has a great detection rate nowadays (as opposed to back then when it flunked every test), but Defender's self-defense barely functions. It can be easily bypassed or turned off by malware, especially if the user did not bother to use a two account system and just has their main user account have Administrator privileges (which is awful and what 99% of people do these days). I still recommend downloading Kaspersky Free or buying Plus - Kaspersky being the best AV overall, just look at how it aced tests for decades. Kaspersky is impossible to bypass or turn off. Kaspersky and ESET are the only AVs to receive AV Comparatives' anti-tampering certification. Defender meanwhile can be bypassed if malware just tells it to move over and its like "ok :("

windows defender is good for an average user if you update it whenever it wants (basically daily), but still i dont remember when was the last time i had to spend more than 2h to bypass that, Kaspersky shouldnt be MUCH harder than that. I also can tell from experience if there's something that detects my malware it's either kaspersky and some random other thing or nothing. Well unless i screw something up really bad. Norton is such a joke i forgot it even exists lmao. But what do you mean it's impossible to bypass or turn off? everything is possible to bypass or turn off. We are in the times of bypassing EDRs, which are products that do waaaaay more than AVs (complimentary, not as a replacement) and bypassing them is still not something super hardcore either. Sure crowdstrike is a real PITA (almost like an exception to the rule) and when i see it running i know it's gonna be a tough ride but every 2 weeks on average i learn something new that works against them. And if it works against EDRs it will usually work against everything. Of course it's never "one trick to turn x off", it's a symphony of tricks. But it is what it is, if you're writing malware you're against giants who produced it with great engineers and thousands manhours put in analysis and detection.
