I love Karr. We should have gotten more of him.

This is exactly why I loved KARR in this episode a lot more than in KITT vs. KARR. He wasn't evil per se as he was depicted in his second appearance on the show, just naïve and interested in self-preservation

When we self preserve it is good because it is the continuation of our species. When KARR does it, he is evil. He has no actual care about the preservation of human life, which KITT is programmed with.

You know, for a villain, KARR seems to care about those guys. He gets concerned when the "Ringmaster" gets abusive.

@@doctortimetv1577 I can accept that. I mean, he was programmed for self preservation, but he cared about Rev and Tony, until Tony knocked Rev unconscious, and even then he still cared for Rev.

KARR was an innocent (albeit a bit brutal) child in this scene. His revelation that the box was empty is just like a kid figuring out something obvious. I can see how this leads to becoming a bully, but it weirdly does not justify his shut down retrospectively. I mean he was not evil as a start, he was curious, inquisitive and a bit reckless, but nothing sort of the dangerous weapon it turns later after feeling let down after let down, and abandonment. It seems to me, that the foundation shut him down either because they became clairvoyant looking into the future, or they were like "nahh, this is too childish, we need to start allover again" .. and then put the fully functioning KARR on ice, plugging him into a charger, leaving his tank full and everything ready to reboot it... (Thats not what you do with an Evil robot, right? you would dismantle it or at least try to reprogram it, and make it impossible for it to just leave - so this is also a sign that KARR was not shut down because it was evil. regardless of what Devon claims. I mean he said "i will protect you my friends" ... so even this "self preserving" directive isnt quite there when he tries to protect his passengers

Yeah, he would've been an awesome backup vehicle for the Knight Industries. I can imagine KITT and KARR working on separate assignments, and when either one finished their assignment, they would join the other to help with the other assignment.

So this is what they did in this episode, they went back and forth between the hero car and the back up to the hero car, the general purpose stunt car.

Well, for the whole episode, KITT was portrayed(IIRC) by the Hero car, Backup Hero, Jump car, and the Stunt car. KARR, meanwhile, was portrayed(IIRC) by the Hero/Heel car, the Backup Hero/Backup Heel car, the Jump car, Stunt car(at one point doing a jump, to boot), and the Flivver/Dune Buggy car. I think poor Flivver didn't get to do KITT in this episode.

I could watch 60 minutes of these guys talking to KARR. Hijinx!

Hot take - These two guys and KARR running roughshod through America's heartlands in a multi-season tale of bumbling debauchery would have been a better show than Knight Rider :)

I mean karr even asks them what they want to do when he meets these guys and then brings it up again after crashing the order box. So there's lots of cool story there. And those two actors were kinda funny in their own rights

On another note, it's strange seeing Larry without Darryl and Darrell.

Karr should have appeared in the whole series. Popping up at random times to throw off kitt and michael. They also could have had it so karr had been stolen from storage long ago and michael and kitt have to get him back. It always seemed they rushed thru the Karr story lines and there was definitely more to tell

TheCoreyd1086 in the first season a lot of stock footage was used because the show budget wasn’t as large as later seasons, since it was still unproven at the time.

@darthflyer I read up on it. In season one they had 6 Trans Ams at their disposal. One was the main car and the rest were stunts. They filmed Karr's voice box in a studio and just added it in afterwards. In season 2 thru 4 they had 20 plus cars to use. A train carrying a bunch of the Trans AM rolled over in a derailment. The studio agreed to with GM to use the cars since they were damaged but after Knight Rider went off the air the studio had to destroy all the cars which they did. A real shame. Only 3 cars are out there. David Hasselhoff has one

I remember this scene back when it originally aired on NBC during the 1982-83 season. Filming location apparently was at South Pacific Avenue and West 9th Street in San Pedro (Los Angeles), California. (Some of the seaport scenes in other episodes of "Knight Rider" also were shot in San Pedro.) The "Three Rings" apparently was a fake drive through restaurant built for "Knight Rider" behind an existing El Taco restaurant. I'll be honest. I was digging more KARR voice in KITT vs KARR, he sounded far more evil to me.. But this one isn't much of a difference, it still gives him his evil personality.

I prefer this one for that very reason. KARR isn't programmed to be or sound evil. He just happened to have some flaws that make him an AI who will only protect itself when threatened. That makes this voice more believable.

Inpuuuut. I need iinnnnppuuuut.

hello, certified massive nerd here. So long as you don't teach it to do amoral things, it won't be able to be involved in it. Anything you teach it it's free to use in any way it sees fit, but anything you don't want it to know about you can keep away from it. Just make sure it stays in the right hands, really. plus the AI we have today still isn't quite advanced enough to understand violence like this, nor does it have the capacity to participate in such things. Basically, if you want to make an AI, go ahead! It's not self-aware enough to do anything like this.
