0:59...What's the meaning behind the red painted area on the road? There is already Zebra lines on the road as well as a sign on the right for pedestrian crossing. Is that not enough to warn people that there is a pedestrian crossing there? 5:22...on the right is the Plodine store. Wife and went shopping there once, and we filled the cart with all kinds of stuff. The bill came to something like 550 kuna; this was back in 2018, and that was about $100 Canadian. Never forget the cashier lady's look on her face...I guess not many people spent that kind of money at one time, haha! Now, we not even half-fill the cart with junk over here in Montreal, and the bill comes to about $350! Welcome to Canada!

Good question ! I saw that for the first time on the road in Karlovac. I guess it's an additional warning to drivers that there's a pedestrian crossing in front of them. I know that the oblong red color indicates bike lanes, but I'm really seeing this for the first time and I tried to find an explanation on the Internet. but I didn't succeed. They constantly inventing something new and we learn the changes while driving 🙂 I will tell you that we learned our school lesson a long time ago. When large retail chains were first opened in Croatia, not a single purchase was below HRK 1,200. Over time, I slowly realized that I was buying things that I didn't need at all in order to reach a maximum of HRK 300 per purchase in 2021, and in 2022, I completely avoided shopping in large commodity chains. It is more expensive in a small store, but I only buy targeted products there and thus spend less. Unfortunately, every school is paid for because of ignorance. I would call it welcome to capitalism

@@croatiandriver4232 There is an excellent outdoor, and indoor market in Karlovac (a bit left away from the main bus station) that sell meats, fruits and veggies for great prices - we used to be able to geta large steak at a butchers shop there for about 20 kuna (not per kilo, but the whole steak). Last Summer I bought some here for a bbq, and they were about 40-45 dollars for smaller size. That's about 200-250 kuna. Of course, you still have to go to a grocery store for things like salt, sugar, oil, detergent...that stuff is not cheap, but still a lot cheaper there than here. Just today, we bought 4 pileca prsa (bez koze i kosti)...$36!!! WTF?!

@@apscoradiales I have never been to that market, but I believe that the prices were favorable when you could buy a lot of things there for not too much money, but the situation changed with the entry into the euro zone and the introduction of the euro throughout Croatia, so I believe that this has also changed in Karlovac. Since the New Year, many merchants have unjustifiably increased their prices, some by 20, some by 50, and some by 126%, Such merchants were not punished, but those who rounded the euro incorrectly and instead of 19.91 put the new price at 20 Euros were. Nothing new here. The fine is 3,000 euros for that violation. I believe that it is extremely expensive in Canada, but salaries and pensions are much higher, so I still believe that it is more expensive to live here, especially after we entered the Eurozone. For now, I do not see any good effect of the introduction of the euro. Everyone in Croatia regrets the kuna. I am also sentimentally attached to the kuna and I will always love it because it was Croatian money. Maybe over time the euro will improve the standard in Croatia, we will see, but for me it will forever be a foreign currency just like the American dollar used to be to me

@@croatiandriver4232 Yeah, I keep reading about stores rounding off prices to a higher number when the move to the Euro was made. Same thing happened in Italy when they went to Euro from Lira. Nothing new there, and it should have been expected. I know salaries and pensions are smaller in HR than they are in CDN, but honestly what is happening here is bloody robbery - $36 dollars for four chicken breasts! That's ridiculous. It's sad that HR has lost it's Kuna, but I'm an optimist, and think it's better for Croatia and its future generations to integrate with Europe. That's where Croatia belongs. Can you imagine how the Germans felt when they switched from the Deutsche Mark to Euro?! It probably felt to most of them that the political leaders were selling them out. HR is not cheap by any stretch of imagination, I will give you that. Housing is stupid expensive for what you get. Places in Croatia are almost, I say almost, as expensive as they are in some parts of Canada. Housing in Dalmatia, Istria and even Lika is totally out of line with reality. Like I said, a ruin near Gospic, with no road access, no water, no sewer, no electricity, no telephone line, no nothing costs as much as a decent house in Kingston, Ontario. WTF? That's is insane! And then, if you want to buy it, nobody knows who the real owner or owners are, and where in the hell they are. Somewhere in Beograd, and some in Australia, some in Germany, some in Austria, some have died two hundred years ago, and some that nobody knows who they are. Wife and I faced the same scenario when we were buying a house lot in Slunj. Some land was for sale, but there were no real owners! And when we found some nice land and owners, they wanted more money for it than what it costs to buy a nice house in France because we came from "Amerika", and we had millions!!! Sorry to tell you, but some people in HR are fucked-up! No other way of putting it.

@@apscoradiales The difference between entering in Eurozone and switching to the euro between Croatia and other countries is that Croatia switched to the euro at the moment of the highest inflation in the Eurozone, but ok, time will tell if this was the right moment. Croatia has always been a part of Europe, only now it has become part of Europe again administratively, and I also believe that it will be good for future generations, and I am also optimist. Yes, the Germans gave up the German mark with a heavy heart, and many still have substantial sums because the deadline for returning the German mark is not limited. In Croatia, it is most difficult for tenants, those who do not have their own house or apartment, because many rich Ukrainians have moved to Croatia and do not ask for the price, there are also more and more so-called digital nomads who find life in Croatia cheaper and more comfortable. Apartmentization for tourists is the reason why is impossible mission find an apartment to live in Dalmatia and Istria. When buying land, an apartment or a house, you wrote everything correctly. I can't buy anything, so I don't even think about it. I am only sorry that I blindly trusted my relatives who robbed my grandfather's land legally and today only my last name does not have a house on my grandfather's land or land where I could build it. I defended Croatia from Chetniks and JNA, but I forgot to defend my grandfather's land from Croatian laws and my relatives "Munich Battalion"
