all relationships have rules, the open shit not different because it has more rules and stipulations or anything like that. the problem with these relationships is these people that want to be in them dont sound like they actually know what to do to make that stuff work. like one of them on the panel saying they have trust issues, that shouldnt be one of the defining reasons you want an open relationship cause that just means you want to not get hurt by cheating. in that sense it sounds like that person only wants it as some insurance contract, and if they never got hurt or got over it they might not even want to be in one forreal. when it comes to poly stuff, open stuff, this shit works the best if you are genuinely curious about this type of relationship, or if you have a cultural background where these things are the norm so you actually know what youre doing. these people sound like they still have monogamous values but are hurt, and think to prevent that any further they have to make this compromise in the area of the relationship.

It’s so interesting that people believe that wanting to be with one person for a certain number of years is so unnatural, yet it requires coaching and therapy to be in a successful throuple or open relationship. I think the common denominator in every relationship is us (humans) we have to really reflect and evaluate ourselves and do the work to heal and evolve.

I hate the whole idea of open relationships, bc like Tangerine and Karlous said, the idea of it is based off the premise that someone in the partnership can't be monogamous, and that 's not nature, that's nurture. That idea is birthed from the environment you are surrounded by and/or as a coping mechanism from the hurt and trauma you've been through.

What I got from this conversation is that these people who are for the open relationship need some therapy to heal from some deep emotional wounds from prior relationships, Lous said it at one point and they Lowkey got offended. They are still letting Those people who cheated on them control and dictate their lives because they fear going through that heartbreak again.

Exactly. If they gonna have folks represent the open marriage thing then have ppl on that don’t have reasons like theirs as the why they are in an open relationship. I got friend who is married. Him and his wife are in one but their reason is that they are just freakier in bed than most ppl. I don’t get it but it’s not for me to get but just respect that it’s what they do. Those 2, however seem to still be affected to this day with their pasts.

Why would I as a man get into a relationship so my woman can dictate how I sleep around? It's just easier to stay single do things the way I want. I know marriage carries certain legal protections. But if your relationship is open the marriage is probably not lasting long anyway. Open relationships just over-complicate your life for no good reason.
