Karen Elson - If I Had a Boat (from Still Alice)

Музыка

From the film Still Alice.
If I had a boat
I'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony
I'd ride him on my boat
And we could all together
Go out on the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boat
If I were Roy Rogers
I'd sure enough be single
I couldn't bring myself to marrying old Dale
It'd just be me and trigger
We'd go riding through them movies
Then we'd buy a boat and on the sea we'd sail
And if I had a boat
I'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony
I'd ride him on my boat
And we could all together
Go out on the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boat
The mystery masked man was smart
He got himself a Tonto
'Cause Tonto did the dirty work for free
But Tonto he was smarter
And one day said kemo sabe
Kiss my ass I bought a boat
I'm going out to sea
And if I had a boat
I'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony
I'd ride him on my boat
And we could all together
Go out on the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boat
And if I were like lightning
I wouldn't need no sneakers
I'd come and go wherever I would please
And I'd scare 'em by the shade tree
And I'd scare 'em by the light pole
But I would not scare my pony on my boat out on the sea
And if I had a boat
I'd go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony
I'd ride him on my boat
And we could all together
Go out on the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boat

Do not think that I am suffering. I am not suffering, I am struggling. Struggling to be a part of things, to stay connected to who I once was. So, "live in the moment,” I tell myself. It’s really all I can do - live in the moment.

Helmy 92 I just watched "Still Alice" and I'm still crying. I met Julianne Moore at a small local bookstore and she's the kindest, sweetest, most humble woman I've ever met. She wrote a lovely personal notation in the book I purchased. She's one of my favorite actresses and she was amazing in this role.

The moment that always gets me is when John looks at Lydia and says, "You're a better man than I am," and he finally breaks down because he just can't stand to watch Ali die in front of his eyes, I tear up just thinking about it.

This song is so beautiful. I lost my mother to Alzheimer's. All of the feelings I had when she was losing her memory came flooding back. She didn't know her children's names and she didn't know my father at the end. Alzheimer's is like watching someone die piece by piece before your eyes. My mother, like Alice, was a brilliant woman, and that is the hardest thing to reconcile - a smart and competent woman who gradually becomes incompetent.

+Loretta Najarian yes yes yes this song is so absolutely beautiful, and captures all that people forget to remember about life until it is too late, or are denied too early........thank you for your post. I count every minute as a minute lucky to appreciate what kind of person i am... a 65 year old buttf**k who still runs marathons with relative ease. And with every step I consider how lucky I am. I don't know you from anyone else, but I felt compelled to type this. Bless you Loretta.

Me too. I cried so hard I couldn’t speak. My mother was very ill, suffering from frontal lobe dementia, which is similar to Alzheimer’s. A week after I had seen the film she passed away, and therefore this song will forever remind me of her. Am listening to it today as it is exactly four years since she passed today.

My Nan is about to die from Dementia and Cancer. I'm feeling incredibly sad as my Nan was my 2nd mother to me. I don't feel good, I just want to save her from it, but that's not fair to her. She has lived an incredible life and cared for a lot of people. She is an amazing woman that showed me that life matters, even in these sad moments. I'll update when she passes and how I feel then, but I'm gonna spend more time with her now.

This song helps to idle the mind. The softer gentler tone with memories of the movie - make this more powerful. Given all that, Karen's voice floats in breeze, quiet and softly like a high wind blown leaf, yet with a slightly Blue tone. Magnificent.

It was only after I watched this marvellous film for the second time that I was suddenly hit on the head, captured completely by this song. Partly because I could hear the words - altho I don't understand them all together. Mostly because it is a simple but utterly persuasive tune. Almost a 70s piece. And why did they decide to use this piece to end Still Alice? I don't know, but I'm sure glad they did.

Lyle Lovett wrote the song. On KZread there's a vid of him explaining how he was from Texas & always wanted to be a cowboy but liked boating too & wished he could do both but his life took him into music. I love this song, I have ponies (Arabians) & my husband likes boating & fishing so this hits home cause if I could I'd take them on the boat lol! But I cry so hard because my dad used to work on a ranch in southern Alberta, Canada, & he bought me my first horse & bought some land & we moved out there. He used to sit on the deck & look out across the road to the land west of us and said to me: You know Coll, I'd love to be looking out over a nice herd of white faced cattle (Herefords). This kills me, because they've diagnosed him w/early stage dementia & the other day I had spent w/my mom & after she took me home I called dad & told her she's on her way home, we talked a bit then he said: Did you see mom today? 😭😭😭 I had to hold back my crying, my cowboy is forgetting so much...
