Karate In Modern Self-Defense Systems

Ойын-сауық

We always find it amusing when people claim to create new styles or systems. Ultimately, we're all human beings therefore all styles are related and restricted by the same laws. This video shows popular modern self-defense systems and their much older counter-parts found in traditional karate.
We are a group on a mission to return Karate to its roots through the use of Kata as self-defense.

    The problem of Karate nowadays is not the techniques. The techniques are very standard and efficient. It's the just way it's taught and practiced.

    Exactly. After making a few adjustments, my karate has been extremely effective in my MMA and kickboxing sparring. The training methods of MMA are far more effective than most karate dojos, though, which is why I switched to BJJ and MMA.

    Anyone who's been practicing and training martial arts before for all the labels started to flare up like a bad STD, should have already noticed this. Especially since many of those out there utilizing their "Reality Based" system are trained in formal martial arts. They just cut out kata and just added more boxing styled workouts instead. I'm glad you guys show this in your videos it helps those who thought it was a joke...you know because their wannabe MMA buddy said it was...that there's more to the fighting arts than just an MMA gym.

    Matt Mosley I just wish MMA and BJJ practitioners or fans would Just have some respect for other arts. Not that everyone who trains in those are not respectful but it seems like a good portion of those camps seem awfully hellbent on proving karate or other traditional MA are garbage which seems a little odd. I have studied Wado Ryu for the last 6 years, Goju Ryu, Kung Fu, TKD, Wing Chun and BJJ and found some value in all of their systems

    Dan Inosanto said that what one man discovered another man can. After trials and tribulations through trial and error the essence of the Martial Arts is being rediscovered through weeding out what works and doesn't work and chiseling the Arts to streamlined efficiency, the Martial Arts has gone full circle!!!!!

    Karate works. For that matter traditional martial arts as a whole work. Until modern "new" systems get that they're going to hamper themselves re-learning and re-discovering stuff that arts like Karate have already gotten figured out for years upon years.

  • @complexblackness

    @complexblackness

    Storyman No the Modern systems have it down. It's Karate/TMA that needs to get with the times. Karate/TMA schools have to become more realistic in their training. Like well the Modern schools.

    Storyman traditional martial arts originally had it figured out but they got watered down over centuries of martial artist not having any actual fights, although a lot of stuff used in Krav Maga was taken from karate and judo

  • @complexblackness

    @complexblackness

    7 жыл бұрын

    Zach Hooper Yes you can say that. Judo has in every school and class what many Karate schools lack. That is actual sparring and practical application of techniques, that work. Karate will never get back to its original form as a whole. Only a few schools will teach it, the way It was originally taught and with hard sparring. Too much money to be made today. I wish that there could be a balance between money and practical Karate.

  • @Storyman09

    @Storyman09

    7 жыл бұрын

    ComplexBlackness That's fair. I still have hope for Karate and TMA as long as guys like this, the KarateCulture guys for instance, are around. While I think TMA's in their pure form have things figured out as I said, I think it's relatively rarer to find people who still train that way over here in the west. A lot of people watered a lot of things down they shouldn't have to monetize it, and I really hate that. :/ I'm not opposed to someone making money off the martial arts skills they've rightly earned and put hard work into, but I am opposed when money comes at the expense of dumbing down the martial art. Needs to be a balance there.

    This is real karate and this video does expose how modern combative systems just “repackage” the asian arts with some small changes. Look up George Dillman then you will appreciate what Kata really is. Kata taught in the majority of american schools is garbage.
