KAOSSILATOR PRO & KP3 Comparison - In The Studio with Korg
Музыка
Korg's new KAOSSILATOR PRO Dynamic Phrase Synthesizer/Loop Recorder may look like the KP3 KAOSS Pad Dynamic Effects Sampler, but they are very different... This video shows you what makes them unique.

This is EXACTLY video i was looking for, so great idea taking them side by side. Thanks!
Very good comparison. Big respect for the presenter. One of the best presentation I've seen.
5 stars for straigh up info about these two wonderful products!!! finaly someone who does great presentation. keep them up! cheers from slovenia
I'm so glad I found this video as I've been debating for ages which one to get. Now I know what the differences are, I can decide which to get first.
@MathBaps You can record live audio (from the inputs) onto a pad, and as long as the REC button is lit, the selected bank will continue to record as it loops. It will overdub on top of what is already recorded, so you can build layered performances the same way you can with the internal sounds.
I actually paid close attention and now I understand. Thanks Korg. Awesomeness. Just got my kp3 and kp.
That quick loop jam at 4:50 just sold me. nice bassline
Great new instruments, love 'em, thanks!
@keybox8 The first sound is B075- Unison Bass. The second one is C085- Filter Chord. Yes, they are both built in.
This video is super-informative! I could not really tell the difference between the KP3 and the KaossilatorPro before.
Brilliant demo thank you!
Finally got both! So much to learn. 👍🎶👍
@MaylynnNg That depends. If you're mostly recording from an external source, the KP3 will offer more manipulation. If you want to use built-in sounds to record, you'll want the KAOSSILATOR PRO.
Buying both of them today. Great video and understand the product now.
Great Demo!
@poppyourhead Congratulations on your purchase! There are many differences between the ES-1 and the newer ESX-1- Valve Force tube circuitry, additional effects, sample tweaking, LCD display, memory card storage, and much more functionality.
@daeser1 You can't delete a single layer from the Loop Recorder Banks. To record drums by hand, we'd recommend first recording one of the rhythm patterns to another bank, and using it as a metronome for your manual drum recording.
...nuts....everytime i watch these videos my wishlist for korg items gets longer. They do help in pulling away some of the fog of these instruments. Nice videos, guys.
@djkenstone The switch on the back of the KAOSSILATOR PRO changes the slider's function between Gate Time and Speed control.
getting both....nice vid!! blessinz!!
@wiglebienie In both the KOPro and the KP3, You can set the length of the banks individually. If you're referring to time-stretching, that's something you'll only find in the KP3.
Bravo Bravo, I will definitely be adding one of these to my arsenal very soon.
@mcrulez13 There is a selection of effects on the KOPro, but not nearly as many as on the KP3. Yes, you can use it with a DJ mixer, and since it has RCA inputs and outputs, connection should be very easy.
@towsc33 You can trigger WAV or AIFF files, which can be loaded onto the Loop Recorder Bank buttons... but the KP3 has more options for sample triggering and manipulation.
@KungfuMuythaiguy6 Both the KP3 and KOPro have RCA inputs and outputs, as well as 1/4" microphone inputs and headphone outputs. They also have MIDI in/out ports, and USB connections.
I know this is more of a sampler thing and I have the Pro, but the manual does say that I can load WAV files into it via SD card. In fact, the SD portion of the two manuals is virtually identical. My question is: how do I play the samples (my own songs in WAV form) in the Pro Plus once they are loaded? The manual doesn't say and I don't know which buttons to push to start the song.
@NiGhtprOwIeR Using the KP3, you'd be able to add effects to the guitar, and with the drum machine connected to the MIDI in port, the KP3 could sync to its tempo (and vice-versa using the MIDI out port). We do recommend using a preamp with your guitar, and connecting to the line inputs instead.
"An unstoppable force to be reckoned with." I like this guy. I'm gotta buy both.
Thank you for sharing this awesome info.
@ObamaJoker Yes, it is. The KOPro doesn't have as many effects as the KP3, but this filter is one of the effects that they both share.
I was fortunate enough to buy the KaossPad K3 off my friend for $100 and a case of beer. He had it stashed in his garage because he lost the power adapter... One quick stop at RadioShack solved that problem! I soon realized how flawless this device worked with sampling. I've had it for about a year now, still one the best effects processors for sampling, especially if your using a independent sampling machine!
@poeticjusticemusic It will work with them, in various capacities. Of course, from those choices, we would recommend the microKORG XL. :)
@cicciobarbara You'll need a computer between the two, but yes, it can be done by using software like MIDI-OX to translate the controller's note messages into the 3 MIDI CC messages needed to trigger the KOPro.
@subkontra6660 The KP3 does have some drum loops, but the ones that you hear in this video are exclusive to the KAOSSILATOR Pro.
Excellent vid, very helpful
thank you for this video.. I know thebig different now about KP3 and KAOSSILATOR PRO..
Damn. I was going to get a KP3 but then I was curious about the K-Pro (thinking it was an update of the KP3 rather than an entirely different machine). Now that I know the differences I'll have to get both. Poor me :P

Great demo.
I NEED THIS haha am so stoked i'm gonna buy one
I need this setup!
@AtomicProjects Plugging a MIDI controller directly into the KOPro will only work if the keys can send customizable CC messages instead of note data. The Axiom does not do this, so it's probable that they were using a computer program (such as MIDI-OX) to translate the MIDI notes from the keyboard to the required CC messages.
Yes. It has a mic in / line in switch for recording either. In this demo he was just recording stuff from the KOP into the KP3 via line in.
Great vid!
So what you are saying is I want both of them. Thanks!!
Thank you this video was great
great review thanks!
Good to see that hardware isn't dead and there are other things to use besides Ableton
great, now i want both...
@maciessracies- No, these are all functions that are possible on the KP3 but not the KAOSSILATOR PRO.
great stuff!!!
Newbie question xD how do you link the KP3 and Korg + together and have the sound play from one speaker/amplifier? I have the in-and -out cords connecting them but don't know how to get the audio flowing right..
Dang now i need both of them :)
Excellent video. They will be mine, oh yes... they will be mine.
@pphsorrow You can't create your own sounds, but each internal sound has tons of flexibility and modulation built-in.
tanks 4 the help!
@dhmacko91 Yes, you absolutely can. The KP3 is better for manipulating external audio, and the KOPro is better for looping it.
@sven209 unless u already have a sound generating device, get the kaossPro. Kp3 mainly manipulates your sounds. I was using the older kaossilator to feed sound to my kp3 until i got the pro.
I'd buy that too, as the sampler-orientated KP3 is almost lacking when it comes to the sound library. I think the Kaossilator Pro on the other hand could do with more sampling. Both could do with a 8-track, 16 or 32 beat pattern recorder too. It would be killer to combine the both.
i need to get both!!!
Thanks so much for the video! Very informative. More? :)
Great great Video
Korg always on the ball with the tutorials, just wish the tech support was as responsive Lol
Thanks rich! helped me alot :)
I can answer some questions. 1) the kaossilator has many presets 2) the kaossilator can do many interesting effects to the output but the KP3 is simply geared more towards that 3) no you do not need both. Think of the Kaossilator as a live synth for your performances that has looping capabilities and the KP3 as a looper with alot of dynamic modification possibilities.

byouno93 it’s funny how no one could understand that lol kaossilator is your (keyboard) kaoss pad is your effects pedal
I agree with Ryan, I went for the Kaos Pro + only.
The Kaossilator has more features that involve beat creation, with 200 preset sounds. The Kaoss Pad K3 speaclizes in effects, with just around 120 effects (including drum/synth sounds) in all. Between these two machines, its not about which one is better... its what tour looking for. If your into sampling, get the Kaoss Pad K3, if your looking for beat production, go for the Kaossilator Pro. Either way, you can't go wrong, there both great products made by a great company!
exactly.....i wish the Kaosillator Pro and the KP3 had a baby...i would buy that
@deroevis You don't even need a computer. The only thing you'll need is a destination for the audio outputs... This could be an amplifier, powered speakers, headphones, a computer, or many other things.
really good video :) one question can you put music into the korg kasossilator and mix? thanks
i went into a guitar center one time, and they were callin me tiesto over the loud speaker when i was mixing this with the korg board, it was sweet lol, dont have the money, but will try to get the blue one, i learned it quite fast from messing with it and it was easy to get a sample loop goin and going between different drum loops fluently, i was sold, but dont got the money yet lol.
@Brainbox97; cheers man =) .. im looking into getting one for live use, however I dont know what would be better to put some wacky sounds into the set. with the mini kaos pad does it have any 'sounds' like the Kaossilator PRO?
hello Rich and Korg, thanks for the video. I still have a question though - is kaoss pad 3 able to loop external audio ENDLESSLY (sound on sound), without need of holding down the rec (or another) button, like kaossilator pro ? I am a guitarist and need both hands while looping and need to loop many layers on the fly. thanks
Wanna get ALL of the KAOSS!
@medusasworldofstone if you already have sound production equipment with audio out, the kp3 may give you a bit more flexibility with the effects. If not the kaoscillator can be used as an instrument/looper on its own.
I will buy the Kaossilator pro very soon! And eventually the KP3 :D
Hey Rich, very helpful video - I've got a Kaossilator Pro and I REALLY need that Sample function the KP3 has for remixing...how can I imitate that on my K=os Pro???
i finaly have both. YES!
These two in one guitar= :O!!!
Korg needs to combine these two devices into one with absolutely no shift stuff to dive into . Everything visibile. Peace Christo
@Gstargeorge No, sorry, USB mics can't be used... the USB port is only for data transfer and MIDI.
imagine these things together. wow
So cool.
Hi rich how are you, thanks for great video! helped me with my choise i got the pro. but i have another question, can you please tell me whats the difference between the Korg ES-1 and the Korg ESX-1, thank you!
How about making your next hardware a dual Kaoss Pad system with both a Kaossilator synth and a Kaoss Pad FX unit in the same bit of kit. With a sequencer too. OR a re-release of the Kaoss Pad Quad with MIDI in/out - I loved my Quad but without MIDI apart from in DJ sets I couldn’t find a place for it in my setup so sold it instead of it collecting dust - now ?I miss it but not being able to integrate it into my music production setup I doubt I’ll get another. Who knows though - I love your gadgets - even more so with my iPad Pro’s 12.9” screen for your ever growing list of amazing synths. And Gadget.
Well thats just great.. now i cant decide which one should i buy ...
@DoodleAids Hahaha. Thanks for sending me this video man. Although it makes me want to spend money that I really shouldn't. =p
this man has beautiful hands!
With both of these do you have to sample first then butcher? or can you mangle/manipulate live audio? Like an inline effects unit?
sweet :P would be really nice to have all of the features in one box hehe maybe later eh?
Can you connect a guitar to the kp3? like recording a riff and then manipulate it in the kp3?
So I understand the tempo detect function, but what about syncing tempos between both modules? Even if they are both running the same tempo, they can still be running out of sync right? That would make live performances difficult in some ways.
I need both :)
i might just buy this for the pretty lights :)
I want both of them
Hi! Can I plug a MIDI Keyboard to Kaossilator pro to play the notes? How much sampling time or memory does it have? Thanks!!
excelente!!
@BeatboX4Life15 Make sure the input level is turned up enough so the kp3 is picking up the sound. Also what have you got it plugged into for playback. If your using the rca connections try plugging in headphones and seeing if you can hear the sound
I really like how the PRO is has more standalone unit features to it. I'd like to run my old Boss SP 505 sampler into it as well though. If I plug the USB MIDI into my macbook, it should follow the MIDI clock in Ableton, correct?
Hello, this was a great video but I still have one question. Would the kp3 and pro be compatible with ableton live? thanks.
