Sometimes it feels like Ken’s a contrarian. He’s been shitting on Kanye relentlessly for the past ten years, then suddenly when EVERYONE except the most deranged lunatics in the country finally agree with him, he’s suddenly coming back around to the music?

@@geronimo1595 Oh I'm sure that Kanye still knows how to produce a beat, but what's the point waiting for his lithium to kick in to help him finish more than one song when he's just not taking it in the first place. Kanye used to make albums that had most songs be instant hits, now you're lucky to find one complete song in his projects. And that's before he started on this jew this jew that bullshit. At least when Jay Electronica raps I can pretend it's not just about jews, but Kanye leaves no such room.

@fluidthought42 You’re not wrong. I’m just coming to terms with the fact he’s never going to touch something like “Spaceship” or “Two Words.” Even “New God Flow.” I feel like he’s in a forever rap battle with SNL. His real core audience is under his nose. It’s exhausting.

Harsh truth about Ye is, he consistently made so much excellent music early on, that the latter half of his career was able to coast off of the potential of him replicating those hits. He has completely lost the capacity to be receptive to valid criticism & is largely surrounded by people with no intent to see his art reach its full potential. Why keep checking for new Ye in 2024? Like there are a lot of us who aren’t even bringing up the anti-Semitic stuff, or any of that other nonsense that he’s been on, but the fact that he went down that route has in turn made his music pretty trash. Here’s the secret behind modern Kanye. He needs Mike Dean. If you look at the credits for any Kanye song past MBDTF there are loads of co producers on every single one of his beats. 90% of them had Mike Dean helping him on each track, but after the infamous Alex Jones interview, Mike quit. Kanye fans will hate to admit this, but he’s just not the same without Mike. The production isn’t as tight. There will be like one nice synth but no cohesive idea behind the song itself. Overall Ye needs to hang out with less Nazis (Nazis suck at making music they just recycle garbage from the 1800s) and also stop spending time with Yesmen who automatically like everything he does. This album was half baked and unfinished because Ye thinks everything that comes out of his ass is genius, but you really have to work at putting out a good product, it doesn’t happen overnight.

I agree with Ken’s views on the sonic aspect of the album. Disagree with Feefo with Donda and this project. Vultures is good. Kanye has left his pure rap phase in his career.. it feels he’s focused on the sonic aspects more now than lyrical and I feel that’s feefos biggest gripe which I don’t get because Kanye has always been branded more for his production more than his rapping.

Lyrically this album is a desperate attempt to rage bait listeners who are not already dedicated to loving anything he puts out. The Diddy reference, the numerous R. Kelly references, the Bill Cosby references, doubling down on anti-Semitic comments. It's all to use the same marketing tactics that Lil Nas X and the likes of many others use to gain attention. His bars are weak, and the punchlines are dumb, but Ty was pretty good on this album. I've said for nearly a decade, that Kanye should quit rapping and just be a Super Producer. He should put the pen down and let others shine.

The only bad song was Vultures, and I can understand people who might say HOODRAT. I think this is just an album for younger Ye fans, of which I am not one. I don’t want to hear Kanye rap anymore. Period. What does he have to talk about nowadays? Nothing he said on this album was worth listening to. Production wise, this album ain’t terrible. There’s a lot of unfinished ideas on this album, especially the tracks that sound like a diluted version of Fade. The ideas weren’t bad or doomed to be terrible, they’re just unfinished. However, he just needs to curate. He should use his creative vision to cater towards artists who have something to say. I assume that’s why he doesn’t collaborate with artists who actually rap because they’ll outshine the shit outta him like Freddie did. Also, donda is overhated. I think that album was a solid release from Kanye with a lot of good tracks.

"When does bad albums start to diminish the greatness of Kanye." I've felt this way since Yeezus. I know a lot of people enjoyed that album but growing up with Kanye at the start of his career then hearing such a drastic change just kind of put me off. I'm all for artist evolution, I did enjoy a few tracks, ngl. But literally, it just felt like my appreciation for Ye began to dwindle after that album personally. Now its weird noises and vocals with uninspired beats compared to his old shit. College Dropout, Late Registration and Graduation is one of the most complete trilogies in hip-hop in my opinion. Everything felt cohesive and you could witness the evolution in the production and the writing. 808s and heartbreaks, although divisive, literally set the trend for hip-hop going forward and STILL influences these new artists. MBDTF was that first step into a "new" Ye and to me it went downhill from there as far as Kanye albums go.

Yeezus was the first time Ye really lost his artistic originality and completely bit off another act. There was some of that problem with 808’s with the autotone but the songs he made and the concept he took with it was pretty fresh. There’s nothing that made Yeezus stand out from Death Grips or other harder sounding Hip Hop at the time. Then by the time TLOP came out I got tired of him, his antics, and that every album is just him talking about himself now.

Even to this day, I still don't fuck with that album too much. Either way, even if you've heard the first 5 albums a million times, go back and listen to them after listening to the new shit. Listen to "All Falls Down" after listening to something like "Hoodrat" and it makes you sad as hell. It's like...damn....how did it get to this point?
