You got the actual mouth wired shut version on YT (Through the wire Og). This is a rerecorded version. It actually changes a little the verses (for example the "look back on my life like the ghost of christmas past" flow is different. He also said "in the same hospital where biggie and pac died", but latter found pac didn't die there so he changed it for smalls)

He was in that chicken stop after having a hard time being back in Chicago, and that woman was saying it's the new Kanye West music video and then asked for money. It felt sad during the documentary because he was trying to make it and struggling, but when it was on the music video it felt funny.

Kanye was just that great, treated as if he owed people beats just because they were signed to the same record label. I cannot wait for you to discover some of his best music. Just like the documentary gave context to The College Dropout, each Kanye album has significant context required to fully understand them. Here's a list of my favorites 808's & Heartbreak - After his mother passed away (he blamed himself for it) and his fiance allegedly cheated on him, this album was born out of pure emotion. It absolutely changed the sound of rap music, introducing emotion, vulnerability, melody, and autotune to the mainstream hip hop fans. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Post-2009 VMA's where he interrupted Taylor Swift, the entire world hated him. He went on a self-imposed exile to Japan and later to Hawaii, and almost killed himself because of the hate he was getting. This album HAD to be great, or his career and life was over....(spoiler alert: this was consistently voted as the album of the decade so yes, it was great) Yeezus - A mask of bravado and narcissism hiding a broken, vulnerable, frustrated Kanye West. Fresh off the success of MBDTF, he couldn't believe he still wasn't taken seriously in fashion. This album also details how Kim saves "Yeezus" (Kanye) from spiraling in fame. The Life of Pablo - Kanye struggles to find identity now that he's gotten everything he wanted, he's made it in fashion/music and is now married with kids. He asks himself which Pablo he is. Picasso (artist)? Escobar (controversial figure/biggest mover of product or shoes)? St. Pablo (family man devoted to God)? The album is a look into his hectic mind, juxtaposing concepts from each of the 3 identities.

Through the Wire was the first time I heard Kanye. It was on Christmas Eve 2003 and I remember I saw it on MTV at like 2 AM. I was 18 years old and I was home on Christmas break as a junior in high school. I was like "Oh my God, who is this? My mind was blown." It's crazy, and I'm really lucky that The College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation were the soundtracks to the final high school years and the next four years away at college. I'm now a 34 year old nerdy Dad and I still find myself coming back to these songs so regularly.

WOW! 4:40 was actually saying Thank You to Chaka, not us! I didn't realize that after all these years. He was saying "Thank You." to her for allowing clearance of using her sample! The story goes her son was mates with Kanye and after the car accident he was inspired to make a song about it. After he left the hospital and produced the track, he requested the clearance on her vocals without her having a chance to listen to it. She ONLY okayed it because she felt so bad for Kanye being in the accident. When the official track got released to the public she HATED it and regretted approving it. Even the great Chaka Khan couldn't see Ye's genius yet. Today it's one of the most classic hip-hop songs of all-time and created a new genre of hip-hop.
