A walkthrough of the first few paragraphs of the first section of Kant's Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals. I'm using James Ellington's translation, but the Akademie page numbers are listed so that you can find the corresponding parts of any translation you choose. I try to lay out the claim Kant makes in the first sentence of Section 1, and this will hopefully set up a reading of the rest of the section.
