As a follower of Valery Khalilov I have always had a great respect for this genius composer/conductor. Our musical community whether Russian or otherwise will be at a loss as of the 25/12/16 . R.I.P.

I still can't believe that he has died. I played in marching bands in high school and college. I always admired Russian military marches and listen to them a lot. General Khalilov became a familiar name and I followed his work. I look at him in same category as John Philip Sousa and others. Khalilov's talent in composition and conducting is irreplaceable. The music will go on and there will be someone else who will take over, but it will not be the same. : (

Valery Khalilov composed a litany of military marches including Kant March , Rainbow March, Adagio for military band also in his repertoire are some marvellous transcriptions of orchestral classical pieces for military band, not to mention his contribution to Russian folk music. R.I.P.

Since may of 2016 chief conductor of Armed Forces of Russia is Colonel Timofei Mayakin.

RIP German Russian American @Petrov Fed greetings from the USA, I hit like. As a classical pianist, I admired Varley Khaililov I always admired his genius as a composer. Our musical community in Russia would not have been the same but we lost a legend on December 25, 16, na zdrovie blessings to your health comrade Khaililov

Из статьи, посвящённой жанру канта в Википедии: "В царствование Петра I в большом ходу были патриотические и «виватные» (приветственные) канты, которые приурочивались к празднествам, торжественным приёмам, к важным историческим событиям, особенно по случаю военных побед и заключения мира (например, кант «Радуйся Ро́ско зе́мле» на заключение Ништадтского мира, 1721). Патриотические канты пел хор или вокальный ансамбль без сопровождения, а также с участием духовых инструментов (например, роговых оркестров). Нередко они сопровождались колокольным звоном, пушечной пальбой и фейерверком." Думаю, отсюда и название. А Халилов - молодчина! Всегда приятно и посмотреть, и послушать.

Нет, генерала - лейтенанта присвоили в 2012 году.

@@user-wg4xr8yv4l Тут реально вопрос когда, моя дата 9.07.2010 от его родственников, но в Указах Президента ничего не найти... ЦВО МО РФ с генерал-лейтенантскими погонами он уже в январе 2011 г. дирижировал. В ЖЗЛ у Цицанкина стоит обтекаемая дата "июль 2010". Нужно Указ о присвоении искать, пока коридор июль 2010-январь 2011.

No, no connection to the philosopher whatsoever. According to Valery Khalilov himself, "Kant" here means "Ceremonial, celebrational ode", it's an old word and its meaning is similar to "cantata"
