My first Kansas concert was August 8, 1979 at Cobo Arena in Detroit on their Monolith tour. Amazing show! Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush opened, a great Hendrix- style guitarist, check him out!

Old timer here, LOL. I've seen Kansas in concert probably 20-25 times through the years. Well everything changes obviously. I have not seen every configuration of the band live but most of them. I would say they're still ALL professionals, masters of their craft very talented musicians at the upper level. So I think it's kind of cool to see the band with new players at times and there's still rocking in a new way with the foundation of timeless classic music and lyrics. Got to rock on!

@@crusheverything4449 There were three Kansas bands in the 70s, and they weren't the same as each others, but they did have overlap in members. Then there were three more in the 80s and five lineups in the 90s. They have always had people coming in and out. The common element is the music, and that has been excellent in every incarnation.

@@Parableman - As a fan since ‘75, I know Kansas history like the back of my hand. I’ve interviewed eleven past and present members, many several times. I saw every incarnation multiple times. I like the vast majority of stuff they’ve done over the decades, but nothing compares to The Original 6, who made it possible for the band to carry on for so long by recording such incredible music on those first 6 albums.

Just saw them when they came to the Keswick in Glenside Pa and they had the other drummer in for the first half of the show and then Phil took over and there was a distinct difference...no disrespect to the other drummer, he's great as well. They sounded as good as ever!!!

Now that Rich is last man standing , are they going to continue ? Haven't heard last two records, I know it's on my list, just so much music so little time. Just have a soft spot in my heart for the original members. ☮️

Seems to me that Steve Walsh had more energy than this whole band. Just doesn't seem like they have the same giddy up. I mean they're good players no doubt. I can't tell is that Phil on drums? Or was this after his heart issue ?

Thanks for the comment. Phil was recovering and only playing the second half of the shows then. 29:30. Honestly the super magic was Kerry Livgren. Steve Walsh was awesome but already having vocal issues by the 90's when I saw them.. The young person I brought to this show much prefers the new younger members, who were very carefully searched for and screened by Phil. He's trying to keep the band revelent, doing a good job!

Time passes. I saw them 45 years ago. They were amazing. They’re still selling out theaters on this tour, no one attending seems disappointed at all. All the new members were very carefully hand picked by Phil. Let the band enjoy an amazing 50 year victory lap

The band without Steve Walsh isn't Kansas in my opinion. I realize he retired from the band in 2014 but his voice helped define their sound and was one the best in rock.
