Kansas Eagles 6-15-24. Chaos in Kansas! Wichita, Cheyenne, & Ellie All in the House!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Thank you, Farmer Derek, for another live cam!
➡️ Watch here: kzread.info7gIwQwxf...
Live chat with moderators Marilyn, Kathy, Tracy, & Nina!
➡️ This is the full version of the "shorts" clip I published last night.
Video opens with vocals from Cheyenne, who then arrives on the nest. Wichita arrives shortly after, out of view, on the right side roost branch. Cheyenne does a booty scoot, then Wichita comes to the nest. Cheyenne does another booty scoot, and Wichita does some high hops, startling Cheyenne. Cheyenne kicks Wichita, and the scuffle is on. Ellie arrives, and Wichita flies out.
Ellie goes to the nest, and Cheyenne immediately starts biting at her feet. This happens several times, plus Cheyenne grabs Mom's foot, and nips at Mom's head. Mom nips back, with slo-mo replay of the interaction. Cheyenne wants food, and does not want Mom on the nest. Eventually Cheyenne leaves, Ellie aerates, then also leaves the nest. Additional info in the time stamps below, if interested. Click on any time stamp to advance to that part.

    Bless their hearts, growing up is hard🥹. Once you leave the nest, there’s no going back to the way things were…. Ellie is the best, and they just don’t realize how lucky they were and are. She stuck it out and took it. To be able to get in the psyche of an eagle would be my dream. Thank you, Androcat and Farmer Derek. Ellie/Harvey and kids of 2024 will always have a special place in my ❤️

    Lots of action that’s for sure! The dynamics have certainly changed between Wichita and Cheyenne. Survival of the fittest is surely “kicking” in. lol Cheyenne was very hungry. What surprised me most from all the chaos was Ellie’s reaction. She could have been a great deal more aggressive with Cheyenne but she wasn’t. So delighted to finally see Wichita at the nest. Maybe we’ll see more of them; as long as Mom and Dad just drop the food and go! Tyvm Androcat 💜🦅💜

    Attacking mom for food is that normal behavior, was scared for Ellie for a bit… thanks for the video.

  • @androcat12

    @androcat12

    9 күн бұрын

    @michellethrockmorton7233. YW 🙂. Yes, the behavior of biting the adult’s feet, looking for food, is normal. That starts in the nest about the same time as mantling food. The juvies get more aggressive over/with food as they get older, a behavior that is survival instinct. They will fight for food and survival for the rest of their lives. Now that they have fledged, they can grab the food and go, and hopefully eat away from other birds trying to take it. Ellie knows the behavior of her offspring, and when to get away from them. At this point in the juvies lives, the adults equal food, then they want the adults to get away so the food doesn’t get stolen. Cheyenne’s behavior indicated he/she wanted food, and the adult off the nest. Hope that helps. 💙

    @michellethrockmorton7233. Yes, it sure did. I sometimes include the orioles and flycatchers in the videos. I included that segment, then forgot to add it to the time stamps (thank you). Orioles will pester eagles, as many small birds do, just trying to protect their own little families. 💜 Link: www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Baltimore_Oriole/overview

  • @androcat12

    @itsmegoomy2364. I think it was likely a combination of Cheyenne wanted food (they always want food), did not want Mom on the nest, and Cheyenne has had the nest to his/herself on visits post fledge. The adults have been such great providers all season, so I doubt that has changed. 🩷

    @@androcat12 🙏❤🦅🦅🦅🦅 Dear Androcat, what is a "booty scoot"? Is it a scratch or some cleaning their bottoms?👀😊🦅 Our Eaglets in SW Florida did the similar in the water, right? Like "dunking"😊 /bottom dip👀 It is so interesting to watch🦅🦅

  • @androcat12

    @androcat12

    9 күн бұрын

    @pesyira. A booty scoot could be a scratching movement, a dry or wet bath simulation (if raining), or could be parasites. Eagles/eaglets do get parasites, especially eaglets in the nest. External parasites can be minimized post fledge with preening/bathing/sunning in heraldic pose. My understanding of internal parasites is many die off after completing the stage of their life cycle in the host bird. I am not an expert on the topic, just what I try to understand through reading and asking those who know more than I do. 🩷
