Fun fact: The drummer insisted on the bongos at the end so he could be listed as a musician on this song because he said he knew the song was going to be timeless and he had to be a part of it somehow.
Sir, your hand clapping says it all. This song is a true masterpiece.
This is one of the finest songs ever written, of ANY time or genre. It transcends rock, and it will go down as an all-time classic song alongside the greatest songs ever recorded. Heck, it's already there. Great reaction you guys. Very thoughtful and in depth.
In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou [art], and unto dust shalt thou return. ~Genesis 3:19 (KJV)
EXCELLENT REACTION Savio your interpretation of the song was perfect. This song by Kansas is ear candy, a true classic.
Simple midwest boys. Proves it doesn't matter where your from what matters is where your souls at and going!
I was friends with the artist who designed all the album covers and logo for Kansas, Peter Lloyd. He said the gents from Kansas were some of the nicest and most generous humans that he ever knew. They even payed for a very costly heart operation for Peter's son out of their own pocket when they heard of his needs, without hesitation, and without being asked. Much love... Namaste!
This song and that Volkswagen microbus T-shirt. Win win.
Kansas ..also one of the best progressive rock bands of our time ...May i suggest KANSAS -MIRACLES OUT OF NOWHERE ...another masterpiece

This song is a reality check and, at the same time, just simply beautiful. Love you dad. You will always be in my heart...

I completely agree!
Beautiful song, a bit sad but beautiful nonetheless ❤️❤️❤️❤️☀️☀️☀️🙏🙏😊😊
Guitarist Kerry Livgren, who actually did most of the songwriting for Kansas, used to use the guitar part to this song as simply a finger picking exercise sitting around his house when Kansas would be home off the road so his fingers wouldn't get stiff. It was Livgren's wife who thought the acoustic picking sounded beautiful and kept encouraging Livgren to write lyrics for the music.............and Livgren's gift to us was Dust In The Wind.
Such a great song with a timeless message. We struggle, complain, and wine about our fate and the choices we make in life, all the time our moment in the sun is going by. Everything comes to an end for us and we can't buy even an extra minute so use each one wisely and be grateful for all that you have and realize we are dust in an endless wind and when our time is up all of this crumbles away so hold onto the things that are really important, the people who you care for and who care for you and appreciate your time with them because you will never be able to get back any of those lost moments. A great song, some call sad but I prefer more a reminder to stop and really think about your time and what you are doing with it!!
From an interview with Kerry Livgren, the guitarist and lyricist: "It actually has a really interesting, almost humorous history, which is in such contrast to what the song’s about, but it actually, I was trying to improve my skills as an acoustic guitarist. I’ve always been an electric player. And I came up with this, uh, finger exercise, which was basically Dust in the Wind. I was sitting in my music room practicing and my wife kept walking by the room and she’d stick her head in the door and she’d go “You’d better do something with that”. And I said “Honey, this is just an exercise. This is not going anywhere. You know, this is just something to improve my skill.” And she kept bugging me and finally she said “Put some words to that, sing a melody, because I’m telling you, you really got something there.” So I happened to be reading a book of Native American poetry, and I don’t remember which one it was, but it, there was a particular poem I was reading that was alluding to the fact that, you know, our life here, our physical life, is just this brief thing, and also the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible, it says all is vanity, and uh, for some reason that just seemed to go with that melodic line. So I threw it together, literally threw it together, and again came in the last day of rehearsal, and the guys were all there. And you know Kansas is this big, progressive, heavy, rocking band, and I walk in with this acoustic guitar and say “OK, Vicky says, you know my wife says I need to play this for you guys.” And so I sit down and I played the song for them on the acoustic guitar, and I sang it, which if anything was going to kill the song, that would do it, and I looked up when I was done and the guys were all, just kind of had this blank look on their faces and they said “Where has that been?” I said, “What do you mean? You liked that thing?” And they said “Absolutely - we gotta do this.” And I literally wrote the string arrangement in a motel room down the road from the studio, ‘cause I was trying to figure a way to include the violin in the song, and we were doing a session that afternoon, and I just wrote the string lines in a motel room in Nashville."

Thanks for posting this!
The meaning is exact, and the performance is perfect...
The song teaches you how to not take yourself so serious. Do your part in this world and do good by the ones that love you because if you don’t you will be as memorable as dust in the wind. You guys rock by the way.
Not many rock bands have a violinist. Let alone one that looks like Andre the Giant. 🙂. This is a legendary band, and this is one of their best songs. There is a very good documentary about them called Miracles out of nowhere. I highly recommend it!
Yah, this song points out the irrelevance of self in the face of eternity, and so we must appreciate such moments as we can as they go by. All the universe is a sand-castle waiting for a greater tide to wash away. We may live in the Illusion, but by keeping to the Love we may find what is real and write it upon reality for all time. For a counterpart, try experiencing another Kansas song "Lightning's Hand" which also points out how great an energy and power can be focused upon a given moment by force of will and knowing our own nature. This is the domain of Thor, the Storm, the thing that cannot be denied in the moment where it strikes true.
Song literally just speaks timeless truths, songs that are so authentic and relatable like this are just amazing. All we are is dust in the wind.
I started watching you about 2 months ago and love your reviews so I decided to describe. I'm 62 and have a better appreciation and understanding of music because of you. Your educational background lends volumes to your explainations, something that I can't get enough of. It's a therapy I enjoy even more than the songs. Plus Kirsti has a beautiful smile.
I LOVE watching your reactions so insightful precise on point. You truly understand and appreciate great music.
Makes one think of Biblical verses: "In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.” And of Ecclesiastes, "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.
I would love to go to a live concert with Kirti she just seems like she's into every song. Like this is kind of a sad song but she has a big smile and starts bobbing her head because she digs the tune that much and appreciates it.
My favorite from Kansas, released in 1977. I was 10 years old when this came out...will be 53 on Sunday. Thank you for reacting to this beautiful song. :-) The words are so poignant & fitting for these troubled times of the coronavirus pandemic that is gripping the world today. "All your money won't another minute buy." Health is the true wealth in April 2020 (& beyond)... Be well & stay safe, everyone!
Thank you for doing this song. Big part of my formative years! You will enjoy the Kansas journey!
Love watching your reactions very insightful and you appreciate the music
Great analysis and comments by both of you.
Thanks for honoring my request....it was a joy seeing you enjoy it !!!!
Here's a thought provoking moment....the guitarist was doing finger exersises on his guitar (the tune you hear) and had this song just pop into his head. Last minute song added to album that took no time to write. He was a very spiritual man, thank GOD 🤗
The lyrics really bring it home...most of our actions in this world are wasted. This reminds me to make every moment count!
The Indian tradition of thought, (Upanishads, Vedas, etc.) is deep and beautiful. This song hints at the writers exposure to such philosophy.
this song made Kansas famous it known world wide
This video, and your Boston video made me a subscriber. Love your interest, and honest reactions. Thanks, gonna go watch more of your videos...
this was big on the charts.
This song reminds me of my brother who passed 3 months ago. He often worried about money, social status, dead lines etc. but in the end all of that was irrelevant.
This is a beautiful song. Many, especially in our edgy and meta age, would see this as a nihilistic song, but it's actually religious and weirdly hopeful in nature, at least to me. Kansas had multiple members who became born-again Christians, including Kerry Livgren, the writer or co-writer of most of their stuff. Someone told me it was inspired by Ecclesiastes. The fiddle is enchanting, and the lyrics are simple but perfect.
You guys are have one of the best reaction channels out in my opinion .
😍😍😍😍😍 J'adore cette chanson !!! Merci 😊
Music and reaction are beautiful..... good sermon, love you folks, good hearts and good advice.....the Spirit of God thru his word and people bring forth healing for all. OLD PETER USA

Beautiful song
BRAVO! You said; "We have to keep things in prospective..." Exactly! Our time on earth is brief, the final end is inevitable, we are dust in the wind! Maybe if more people would come to grips with that notion we could tackle important things like preserving the friggin planet for future generations. I'm not a "Tree Hugger" but I'm not an idiot either! Some day our species will die out and it will be by our own hand.
This tune is from the album Point Of Know Return, which was released in 1978...The song was written by the lead guitarist, Kerry Livgren...
Midwest Kansas Boys, that believe in God, and their music is timeless!

Certainly once you're dead this is true. But having access to lots of money can, however, prolong your life well beyond what would normally be available to those who are impoverished. It's the most developed countries that have the longest life expectancies.

Hello There 😎👋 I love your introduction in the very beginning., in whatever you are saying in your language Are you saying HELLO ? I look forward to hearing other more words you can teach us 😉👍
The guitarrist of this band Kerry Livgren made two songs with my all time music hero, Ronnie James Dio. If you have the time some day, check out Mask of the Great Deceiver and To Live for the King. Amazing songs...
Robbie and steve were born to sing together
Gotta love prog lyrics. Real.
Luckily for me I have had the pleasure of seeing Kansas perform live probably 5 times.. 2 of which ,I had front row seats.. And one of those was at a place called Westbury music fair on Long Island in New York. Which is a very small venue ,you can't get a bad seat.. I was fortunate enough to have one of the band's road crew hand me the drumsticks that phil started the show with.. And after the show I got him to sign the sticks... I believe the song dust in the wind actually started out as a finger picking exercise For the guitar, that kerry livgrin Created for practice purposes. And his wife told him he should make a song out of that. Once again ,why is this band still not in the rock and roll Hall of fame..
Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven. Conscious of our fleeting time here
My aunts niece on her side of the family was killed by her own dad when she was just 16 just a few weeks after this song came out so this song reminds me of her.
Thank you for reacting to this song great deep song you really listen to the words and meanings and appreciate them and recognize them

I thought the song was about the end of the world and how we'll become dust in the wind. I thought the message to the part he's talking about all his dream was that you must take the opportunity to find your dreams because you never know how long life can be.
I Love you guys... this is a Christian anthem. We know we are nothing without Jesus.
Bittersweet.
After listening to this you should listen to Pink Floyd's "Time" Even if you don't do a reaction video to it, you owe it to yourselves to hear it and experience the lyrics.
When listening to the Music, it sounds like there is only one guitar and two violins. No drums, no horns. no keyboard.
