Kansas City Chiefs kicker faces backlash after commencement speech

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is facing backlash after his commencement speech at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. Butker said men ‘set the tone of the culture’ and students should fight the ‘cultural emasculation of men.’ The NFL put out a statement saying the organization doesn’t share Butker's viewpoints.

It's a little long, so I apologize. I personally think the debacle involves how basically numerous women, catholic or not, came to this juncture in their lives, where they achieved something pretty cool. But then, you have people such as Butker who made them sit through his half an hour Gettysburg Address to tell them: "Oh, um, ma'am its great that four+ years worth of days and days writing essays until you got carpel tunnel, nights upon nights cramming into oblivion for one exam after another, and the tens and hundreds of thousand you spent for a piece of paper that says 'Yay! You did it!' But none of that matters, because society lied to you about wanting to be a doctor, lawyer, writer, cashier a Chipotle, because that's a distraction from God's plan for you, which involves you simply cleaning up after and making sandwiches for some guy who got you pregnant and the resulting children. You should be proud. Congrats! Thanks for attending my TED talk."

“According to a 2019 Pew Research Center study, the United States has the highest rate of children living in single-parent households in the world, with 23% of children under 18 living with one parent and no other adults.” In the African American community 7 out of 10 families are single-parent. As an African American this topic is relevant for me and should be for every American. This discussion needs to start in high school and be further discussed in college. The 1950s is often referred to as a golden age because of its economic prosperity, social stability, and American global power. The decade saw the world recover from World War II, and the economy expanded, leading to new jobs, families, and homes for servicemen. The Baby Boomer generation also emerged, resulting in a significant increase in population and a sense of optimism. The 1950s also saw technological advancements, including the start of commercial television and the polio vaccine

The 1950s were the atomic age of science and technology. “Modern” was synonymous with space-aged and comfortable. The end of World War II gave rise to a wave of servicemen with new jobs starting new families in new homes. Industries expanded and Americans bought goods not available during the war.
