Kanhaiya Kumar’s Latest Interview on Democracy, Kashmir, Nationalism, Propaganda and Left vs. Right
The former JNUSU president, Kanhaiya Kumar, who was charged for sedition in 2016, talks about what he stands for, his understanding of democracy, nationalism and propaganda.
Kumar talks about how the state introduces divisive debates in the larger discourse of social issues rendering real issues, such as development, education, health, employment, irrelevant. This propagandistic approach is being capitalised upon by the current regime. About nationalism, he says,” it is a feeling and a sense of association. Nobody has the thermometer to measure it. And their point of reference for making such a measurement is Pakistan. My nationalism is not hatred based.”
On the issue of Kashmir, he adds that the territory is disputed because of vested interests of not just India and Pakistan but also international parties. Large businesses of arms and social welfare operate because of the Kashmir conflict. Kumar says that the people of Bihar also face the same issues including state failure and other-isation.
The world, according to him, is witnessing a rise of the right-wing forces that feeds on the need for a sense of pride and xenophobic tendencies. In the Indian context, he talks about how the Indian right-wing spent time on institution building rather than worrying about coming into power. They, instead, made sure that once they came to power, every institution was theirs.

I was skeptical before watching this video,but i agree to most things Kanhaiya said,if one really looks deep into it,what he says is the naked truth of India.

Kanhaiya, You are a great leader. It was a sad day when I met a nice and warm family from India. They were refugees from Kashmir. Despite losing life, all property and homeland, the optimism on their faces was remarkable. The majority people of Kashmir could benefit from your perspective on how to protect minorities living with them. Kashmir, in turn can serve as a shining example for not only rest of India, but for rest of the world. Despite all the Army brutality in Kashmir, I hear in media, if I was the Captain of a country, I would do no different. A true democracy is one that protects the rights of a singular minority with all its might. "Welcome the Kashmiri refugee home, and watch the Army trucks leave Kashmir the next day." I end this with a sincere question you may ask Kashmiri friends - "Is your hatred and intolerance for a person with a different religious belief so great that it dwarfs your love for your children, their future and humanity?" Peace on earth.

1) I don't get the argument of taking away basic education. If I am not wrong he is doing PhD . As far I know basic education means elementary education. 2) I don't know, whether have you ever seen bail bonds and documents or not. In most of bail documents, it has been explicitly mentioned that the accused cannot leave the country without the permission of the court, in accordance with crime accused is charged with. So, I don't see a reason that Government has taken away his passport without any rational. There are various provisions through which he can seek permission from court to travel abroad. However, it's on the discretion of the court to allow him or not on temporary basis.

I wish my word carried any weight. This guy has understood almost all of social and political issues better. I am super surprised at his understanding given the poor infrastructure level he has grown out of. He just missed one point : the commonality between gun fascination in USA (NRA) and Kashmir issue having grown out of fascination of guns of young boys when Pakistani ISI offered them. Kashmiris know this. Now it it is getting complicated in kashmir and the wound is festering. There never was any grievance in Kashmir in 1987 - 1989. Kindly, recall statements made by pak ISI top officials about their inability to guess that kashmir misventure triggered by them would grow as big. I wonder if people could understand what I said. Kanhiya is very well informed. He is surely better than Rahul Gandhi by a light year at least ... at least.

I just heard about J P but I hearing now as kanaihya...
I had heard alot about him..in negative way, positive way and I was always confused. After listening to him, I find his thoughts are just like any other normal indian college student. His thoughts are appealing. But his alignment towards any political party will deviate him from his actual motto. And that is what is happening..him getting associated with any political party is distracting his originality and depicting other ideologies than what he actually believes.

After getting elected in 2012...he resigned...and fought 2014 Loksabha.....And Even expelling Yogendra Yadav n Prashant Bhushan....I kind of like ideologies of both....But Currently AAP (Manish Sisodia) is doing extremely well in Health n Education Sectors...And Blaming his work for those sectors which aren't under control of AAP is not fair....Few Sectors are under Lt. Governor from BJP... "Too Bad" is very harsh statement.... Comparably his present work is really good....

For everyone getting impressed by his words, consider watching the videoagain. He's speaking theories that we all are already aware about, in an enticing manner with a bit of vengeful humour. A countries' political scenario is much more complicated than mere theory. And as educated citizens we must be capable of our choosing leaders based on statistics and data of the work of a person taken from a valid source.
