Finally a video with someone petting a kangaroo. I had only seen people punching them.

He didn’t wanted to fight but was trying to tell people to pet him 🦘

That upright stance with arms outstretched and head tilted back is fighting posture. The male roos aim to scratch each other with some pretty decent claws, so they protect their eyes by leaning far back. It also leaves open the sudden launch of a powerful kick to the guts, using the tail for leverage.

He didn't wanna fight the guy, he was itchy and he didn't want the guy to stop scratching him! That was pretty obvious. He's like "come back, mate. I still itch!"

Kangaroo: "man I'll beat your ass right here right now mate" *kid starts to cry* Kangaroo: "did I do that...I feel bad"

Don't feel bad for the roo; you're almost completely wrong. The "desired part" was not the roo exposing his throat for a lovely scratching; it was him keeping his eyes out of reach from his opponent during the fight that he wanted to start. The scratching he received kept him thinking that the man wanted a stand up battle (as it resembled the sort of attack he'd expect from another roo but it also was not painful), and that is why the roo followed him and tried to reignite things with a little added vigour. The man was lucky not to get kicked.

_Pretty sure that Kangaroo thought his eyes were gonna get gouged out. That's literally how they fight, scratching and shoving at one another's faces- which is why they arch their necks back like that. Keeping just out of arms reach._ _That roo was probably getting aggressive because he thought the guy was trying to fight him. Although, I'm sure the delightful scratches threw him in for one hell of a loop._

Depends on the roo. Some are more welcoming to being patted than others. There was a female Red at The Australian Zoo in Beerwah that loved being scratched. She stuck her tongue out even while her head was back. Whereas a wallaby and male Grey did not care to be touched and moved away. Red Kangaroo's fur is very plush and soft. The others were more scraggly and rough. Roos in the wild are like deer, stand still and then bound away if one gets too close unless they feel threatened.

Cleland wildlife reserve has much friendlier kangaroos. also they let you hold the koala named Nick wonder if that little guy is still alive. flew from the state's to Sydney then to Adelaide then drove to walleroo and was treated unlike I've ever been treated by other human beings. Aussies are the best type of people I've ever met. first time ever being a black man and not referred to it as identity. I was a American plan and simple

dont approach one in the wild.. in a petting zoo or some shit, no worries, those one's are used to dealing with people.. still use common sense like you would with any animal n you'll be fine..
