Kane Unmasks on WWE RAW - DEADLOCK Podcast Retro Review

Ойын-сауық

This is the WWE Raw episode where the “Summer of Kane” begins. Around 5 months ago, Evolution had taken the mask off of Kane, but this time Eric Bischoff wanted it for good. Kane had a choice to make: he could either choose to join Evolution or he could vs Triple H for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. He chose to fight Triple H however Eric Bischoff put in a stipulation, if Kane loses he has to take the mask off and show everyone his face! This is the night that Kane finally took the mask off and showed the world what he really looks like. Fun fact, his hair was actually a part of the mask. Isn’t that odd? On this RAW, Booker T and Scott Steiner team up, Goldberg answers the Teddy Long “Rodney Mack 5 Minute White Boy Challenge,” and Shawn Micheals partners with Kevin Nash against Randy Orton and Ric Flair. Plus, it’s a Mick Foley tribute night as Stone Cold invited RVD and ECW alumni to present Mick with the WWF Hardcore Championship as a gift! Things don’t end well for him that night, as he gets kicked down the stairs by Randy Orton!

    Man. I wished Kane did not unmask during 2003. Sure, he had good rivalries with Shane McMahon and Undertaker, but after that, it was difficult to take him seriously.

    Kane had a interview years later where he stated the makeup on his face when he unmasked was black eye makeup what he always wore under the mask, and that the sweat made it run which he didn't think about at the time, and says he doesn't regret unmasking but more that he wore the eye makeup that day!

  • @dn22pkkdd476

    @dn22pkkdd476

    6 ай бұрын

    Yeah, so many people on the forums back in the day, thought the black makeup marks were supposed to be wwe's attempt to make "burn scars", and that they just "gave up doing it the next week because the effect was so bad". That rumor still presists to this day. wwe is a lot of things: incompetent, criminally corrupt, bullies, a blight on the face of pro wrestling, a retched hive of scum and villiany, a branch of the saudi propoganda machine and so on. But if they wanted to make burn scars, they would have at least put some effort into them. Just look at Jillian's Mole. Even Kane's "embrace the hate" mask was originally supposed to be Kane's actual face after he lit his old mask on fire and put it on while it was still hot, Dr. Doom style (he got better). If wwe wanted, they could have gimmicked something up. Instead they went with the "scars were mental scars the whole time" angle.

    Maybe in hindsight Kane should of not unmasked at that time or heck if you had to unmask him like build it up to a mania or summerslam match where someone does unmask him and he goes crazy RVD could of been the one to do it cause Kane somewhat embraced his human side and when he takes it off like ptsd of his past kicks in and makes him remember the monster he was or something could of been more interesting than Trips unmasking him and forgetting he did it. Also the reason why the unmasking was done at such a short noticed is that Kane and Vince thought nothing else can be done with Kane masked so unmasked it was the choice so the had to rush this build for this match vs title match and finally he was supposed to be bald when he unmaksed but Vince saw him with his half hair clown look and though yeah that is good for tv so that is how he looked for the spot. But afterward he went with the bald look cause he did not wanna look like that if he picked up his kids.

    Fun fact, Kane wanted to unmask and he wanted to be bald when he did the reveal. During the shaving process, he had his hair the way he does during the reveal and Vince thought it was great so he made him keep it like that. Kane's on the record saying this too, so blame Vince for the look 😂

    One week from tomorrow is the 27th anniversary of Rocky Maivia’s debut on _RAW_ . The boys should recap that episode, if they haven’t already (RAW 11/25/1996). Also, we probably got the greatest theme song ever out of the result of Lance Storm’s “boring” gimmick that led to the “party boy” gimmick. *😂🤣☠️💀*

    Kane unmasking was a bit of a double edged sword...it muddled the background of him and proving Bearer is a liar, even to his own son, but as a performer, gave Kane more range, least for me, Masked Kane is great, this is as good. Shame he got Snitsky/Lita and May 19th, garbage. I'll never forget watching that when i should have been in bed for school and thinking that was so cool.

    The difference between how SCSA was during his run and when he retired from in-ring and did the GM and sheriff gimmick is simple. He wasn't drunk when he was wrestling. He was definitely drinking when he didn't have to wrestle anymore. Listen to him talk and you can hear him slur his words a lot during this era. Crashing into shit on his ATV and stuff. Not saying he was sloshed every night but you could see some nights he was in his cups.
