I remember him ... I was all beat up by an ex a single mom walked in his store I was counting what I had left in change he offered me and my little boy food it took convincing I don't ever ask for help. When I accepted I'll never forget his words.... "Ya know I know allota people roun' here if you need help youre welcome here anytime you and your boy ❤ My boys now 19 and humble as ever God Bless y'all for being there for me and teaching my boy a life lesson

Cary Grimes what a beautiful store. I know that doesn’t sound rite because u had been beaten and there’s nothing beautiful about that. Thanks for sharing such a time in ur life with us. I pray life is much better for u now.

Cary Grimes Bless you, ma'am. Sounds like Kane's grandpa was a wonderful man indeed. And he, your son, you & undoubtedly many MANY others learned a great deal & were blessed by having frequented The Cold Spot.....😌

Tracey Kays I second your comment!!! 😌 I hope anyone reading it would understand that the story is beautiful because of what Kane's grandpa did for her / said to her & NOT because of the part that she had been physically abused.....😔

Carrie Grimes I'm a man whose eyes are filled with tears after reading that story. And they arent stopping. They just keep flowing down my face. I know there are people on the Earth who are the handiwork of God himself. I feel that you may have encountered one such person at the Cold Spot. Some are angels who are sent to Earth and not of the fallen variety. One such angel and her son were recognised by another angel at the Cold Spot. How have you and your son helped change the lives of others after that encounter at the Cold Spot? How much good have you done? I would suspect more than you could ever know or realize the many who silently thank you for that one smile of kindness to a stranger whose thoughts of suicide were changed to those of encouragement and hope. So many you may have save from harm just with a.word or a storie from your past filled with LOVE and hope for something better. Im still crying tears of joy because I realise I must be talking with one of those angels. Nothing will convince me otherwise. Thank you sweet Carrie, angel of hope. DAVID FRYER

My Grandpa and Granny were were very special to me. My biological mother left me when I was about 4 weeks old! They took very good care of me! My Dad took very good care of them and they were not even his parents! They never wanted for anything! With the 3 of them I had a very happy childhood!! Most of your songs bring so many memories back!!! I can just relate!

Kane your are a amazing songwriter and singer because your songs relate to so many people. Listening to this song made me cry my Nanny Mabel had a beer joint I thought I was so cool if I want chips a drink that what I would get you need those time in your life just feelings special. Then my Pawpaw and Mawmaw ran a campground on the frio river those are some of my childhood memories that top them all. Pawpaw made me a hamburger on the electric grill at 11 o'clock at night after he took everyone to Garner to the dance. The frio is my Heaven on earth I will never stop going there where I know I will always be happy! So thank you for writing this song that will always remind me of my special places !

I remember when I heard this song for the first time. I had no idea it was about that store. I lived on Hogan and when I heard the lyric about the hum in the ceiling fan (which was loud) and the lights in the blind, I knew. Kind of sad with the building gone now. It’s just all grown up now.

❤️ GREAT SONG!!! ❤️ I’m also from Fort O! LFO Alumni Class of ‘83! I remember the Cold Spot & Pop’s Superette. My daddy (Jimmy Erickson) used to make leather goods for Steve to sell in his store. He thought the world of Steve. I, myself, always thought Steve was a pretty cool guy! I love this song! It definitely brings back lots of memories of time spent with my own daddy! ❤️ Just like to say how proud I am of you and your accomplishments, Kane! Keep up the hard work, son! Your hometown has your back! Connie Erickson Williams/Columbia, SC! 😉❤️

Kane What a priviledge it must have been to have even a small part in your upbringing. Your grandfather must have been a wise man whose love for you shines like the sun throughout the lines of this beloved song. His words to you will follow you and guide you for rest of your life like a strong foundation to build the fortress of your life. His memory, the substance to build your life. Every bad thing that happened to you as a child has made you the MAN you have grown to be right now. Take away even one moment of pain and you would not be Kane. I am so moved within my soul to see how you love the broken child still crying and lost inside of you. That child is your strength through your God-given ability to forgive. You have healed those scars that for most never feel the kiss of forgiveness. Wow! Kane it is such a priviledge to live in this fleeting moment in the history of this world in which I live at the same time that your alive and sing words that heal the world. You sing of love and of forgivness that we may not have seen in 2000 years. We yearn as a people to feel what you bring every time you open your mouth or to see the love in your eyes every time a camera is pointed in your direction. Why else could you fill arenas and coleseums in a matter of minutes. Please dont think I am declaring you the messiah. He would be pretty upset with me and I dont need that. I guess what im saying is simply -- thank you for being sooo many things that have helped, healed, and changed soooooo many lives, mind body and soul, who needed a loving touch that so effortlessly flows from the sounds of your heart and your soul. Keep changing the world. Draw strength from us who love you without reason or condition. Keep loving that six year old Kane. Keep your heart open and filled with thankfullness and gladness. Then turn it inward and write the best song of your life that will define you as NEVER before. A song that upon hearing it would change us all and heal a broken species uniting humanity. This song is already in you waiting to burst forth and be sung Only by you. KANE, You are loved. LOVED BY EVERYONE. SO THANK YOU. I AM GRATEFUL I am DAVID FRYER.

This could be an odd ask. My father used to be a Derek on the oil rigs and was an amazing man. His favorite song was always "big bad john" .... I feel like your voice could do justice.
