I think the pilot Captain Devi Sharan had the best convincing skills and timely decision taking capability than our entire Indian government. Bcz the captain first manage to inform ATC of hijacking, and next bring back plane to Amritsar Airport, where he gave huge time in such situations to Indian government to take action. He then managed to took the plane to Lahore, and UAE. Salute to such a brave & courageous captain who took immediate decisions and convince hijackers in delaying plane taking off from airport.

Yes, this is why becoming a Captain is not an easy task. I've seen many examples where the decisions of Captains saved lives and have nothing but utmost respect for them. With no good help from the government, he managed to stay calm and proceed well.

Golden opportunity for Indian government was at Amritsar Airport. If GOI had acted timely we would have captured the airplane right their. ✍️

For the record, I came back to Delhi from Kathmandu on the same flight (IC 814) exactly a day before the hijacked happened.. I still remember how our relatives kept calling us throughout the next day.. I was lucky enough that time 😊

Its not always army or any other security forces responsibilities to save civilian life. Its also civilian job to make sure country is safe.

The best opportunity to grab the hijackers was when the plane landed in amritsar.The plane should have never been allowed to take off be it risking the lives of the citizens because anyhow it was evident that the hijackers would surely engage in sabotaging either by mass destruction or the exhange of high end criminals in which the latter decision had turned out to be a greater remorse.Unfortunately our sluggish system and approach at that moment were the pillars for such a diplomatic failure.

According to me, this matter should have been resolved sensibly in Amritsar itself. India learnt nothing how to deal with this kind of situations from Israel ( Sebena flight 571, 1976). It is the responsibility of every citizen of this country to preserve the reputation of his country till his last breath. So it definitely would have been a very difficult decision though, but the government should have eliminated those terrorists from the Special Forces through a special operation. And if any Indian would have killed during the operation by those terrorists, he was always given the status of a Martyred. And that's why according to me, India should neither have trusted Taliban then nor should it now.

It's good to revisit it as we must know who is taliban and pakistan in reality and what ideology they share. There should be no nation to acknowledge Taliban as legitimate govt of Afghanistan. Doesn't matter what US do with them and what trying to build there.

The best way to secure India is to make compulsory army training for at least 2 years for every citizen after matriculation. During the hijacking, if at least 4-5 well-trained people are inside the cabin then the situation will be different. Also, army training makes a person so disciplined that it will help in nation-building.

I prefer to do *Comando operation* when plane was stand in Amritsar. Saving 180 passenger life is also important so after the rescue how israel kill each terrorist by operation god of warth ( we can do this also but it's late now).

I don't know if it is practical or not, i think we need to train every citizen of India in some sort of defense martial art. The number of passengers was way higher than the hijackers. Also they had daggers or knives not guns.... so i think if people have some sort of skills, they can deal with such a situation...

Apart we should also learn from here that a coalition govt cant take actions swiftly due to difference in opinions and ideology of participanting parties. State and centre relations should be good and at least they should be on same side during a crisis. A proper channel should be there for communication
