Kamila Valieva In Tears After Failing to Win Olympic, Adam Rippon, Johnny Weir: 'It's Heartbreaking'

Ойын-сауық

Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva didn't make it to the podium for her individual skate at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. The 15-year-old skater landed just one of her three planned quads during the Women's Free Skate in the Singles Figure Skating competition on Thursday. The loss comes amid the controversy over her being able to compete even though she failed a drug test. The decision to let her skate at all outraged athletes and Olympic legends alike.

As a teen female athlete in Russia you do what you are told, without question. Failed drug tests were not her fault. So sorry that she was stressed to the point of affecting her performance. I hope she is able to recover from this and go on to be the winner she was trained to be.

The sad thing is that she is so talented that it's doubtful the drugs would even enhance her performance. Hard to understand why the coaches or whoever is responsible would take that chance.

Too many ex Olympians chiming in on something they do not know for sure, which is how that banned substance made it into Kamila's body. This girl has had to bear the brunt of all the criticism. Maybe commentators should have thought about that rather than bringing attention to themselves and destroying Kamila to get a news story.

You're absolutely right. Once she's chosen, she becomes a product. An investment. No longer a human being. We're seeing the human side of her now, in her failure and her reaction to it. And the world just doesn't seem to care all that much, even her coaches and teammates.

She skated clean at the olympics and at the tournament before, the European championship- she was tested at the both events. Plus, the drugs that were detected in her system at a tournament in Russia are not performance enhancers. Anyway, she was set up by someone, and they intentionally waited 6 week to speak up about the results she had. There's no need for her to dope at 15, even for adult skaters it is very rare to dope in this sport, simply not necessary.

She is the best, so talented, and poised like a ballerina. I can't imagine what her life has been like being trained, away from her family. I want her and other skaters to be safe and nurtured, and to be protected from adults that push young girls to the limit. Child abuse is unacceptable. She has been scorned and mocked publicly, affecting this girl mentally. If there was doping in December, it would be from adults, not her choice. I wish her the best in the future.

I admire Valieva, who is kissed by the universe and is on another, some kind of extraterrestrial level. I don't want to discuss once again what happened to her yesterday. It seems, friends, we have overdone these discussions and attention to the most talented figure skater in history. And, of course, I admire Shcherbakova, who had a skating drama a few days before the start of the Games. The layman will never understand this problem, but broken skates before competitions are a disaster for a figure skater. And the fact that she performed in unrolled skates and became an Olympic champion suggests that she is an outstanding athlete with iron nerves. Girls, live long. Be in the sport for a long time. Be with Eteri Georgievna until the end of your career. One gold medal. And there are three of you.

The 4 important things we should pay attention in this Camila case are as follows. 1. In this season, during 4 months from the 2nd Grand Prix Skate Canada (Oct.29.2021) to Olympic, Camila's doping test results were all clean at 4 international competitions. 2. Only one doping test result for Russian national competition was more than 200 times polluted. 3. Why RUSADA requested doping test for domestic competition to Sweden and what was the reason such long time (6 weeks) needed for test & result publication? 4, Under the above situation, was IOC's action against Camila appropriate? Regarding 1 and 2, Camila was on the way of breaking new records during that period, so if she intentionally used drug to improve her performance, it was impossible unless she continuously used it, Therefore it is medically impossible to explain. And she has been negative at both the Euro Champ and the Olympics after Dec. 25, but she made an Olympic records again at team tournament. Are you wise enough can explain this? For 3, there are two possibilities. One possibility is that the Swedish lab made a technical error, and the other is that RUSADA got involved in a Russian internal dark fight and deliberately tried to swap samples to kill Camila and Etheri. It is up to you to decide which possibility is higher. What I'm going to focus on is about 4. Under situation of lack of convincing evidence and Camila's unacceptance of intentional doping, the IOC sued to CAS to disqualify her. However, the CAS dismissed the IOC's indict on the grounds that Camila was a child under the age of 16 and the principle of presumption of innocence, allowed her to compete in the individual competitions. This means not just let her go out on the ice, but let her normally can compete. So IOC should have announced that IOC would normally award medals for the results of the competition, but medal and record could be deprived if Camila's intentional doping definitely found out. However, IOC put tons of pressure on Camila with a shocking decision that "If Camilla is in the top three, the awards ceremony will be cancelled.", Eventually, this IOC's brutal threat forced her to step down herself from the podium. Furthermore this ultimately made it impossible to watch Camila's performance in full of heavenly and mysterious beauty, which all figure skating fans around the world wanted to see. And it could have been the greatest performance of her life. (I pray fervently to God that it won't be!) Camila is not only treasure of Russia but joy of all Figure skating fans around world who pursue perfect beauty! The IOC should kneel down and beg for forgiveness to her and to all figure skating fans around the world and take all responsibility!

Like, the results came in the morning after the Team Figure Skating competition but it was taken back in December 2021. Are you really trying to tell us that you had an entire month and a half and couldn't get it done but as soon as they win it you go "BTW you failed the dr*g test"?? Like, am I the only one who finds it very suspicious? Also, as far as I know, that's one of the many examples where that happened. The organizers are asking athletes for transparency but don't seem to show any of it themselves. Also feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I blame CAS as well. They allowed her to compete citing to avoid irreparable harm despite knowing the test was positive and getting a poor excuse of how she came to have that result instead of her standing her ground as a clean athlete would have and have her sample B tested to see if there was a mistake. She failed to perform under the scrutiny/pressure/criticism as it's been weighing down on her all week long and now she's gonna have to live with those memories and have Eteri chew her out. All the prolonged drama messed with every single skater because of that decision; there's competitive tension and then there's tension that comes from the distrust in your competition. Johnny didn't think he could perform his jumps but his RUSSIAN coach talked him into injecting painkillers into his body a couple of hours before the program. He felt good enough to try and skate. Performance-enhancing drugs? Although legal, these painkillers do the exact same thing that he is accusing Kamila of. The head of WADA in Cologne Germany stated that painkillers and taking them are performance-enhancing and should be categorized as such. It's well known that Andreas Erm who won a bronze medal in the 50km walk in the 2003 world athletic championship in Paris received pain killers several times during the walk - can you tell me this is not performance-enhancing? Plus, the drugs that were detected in her system at a tournament in Russia are not performance enhancers. Anyway, she was set up by someone, and they intentionally waited 6 week to speak up about the results she had. There's no need for her to dope at 15, even for adult skaters it is very rare to dope in this sport, simply not necessary.

Johnny understands talent and was praising Kamila, even called her “ a mythical creature seen for the very first time”, which is a big compliment, basically saying she is one of the best he has ever seen and he probably studied all figure skaters. After the positive dope test results, he has to change his view on Kamila’s talent and position and only try to provide a fair level playing field for everyone else competing after CAS has failed to, due to a loophole. Can't you see that the main doping of Russian girls is the desire to get gold. Everyone understands that doping will kill gold. They don't accept anything. Look at the history of the girls. Camilla lost to Anya at the Russian Championship in 2021. Look at that championship. You will understand that Camilla was already the best then. But Anya had authority. Anya won. Sasha focused on jumping. Anya is on creativity. And Camilla was able to combine both jumping and creativity. She doesn't need doping. She's the best. The only thing that could bring her down was slander.
