He created the character out if necessity and when he started talking shit, his numbers shot up like the Falcon Heavy. More fighters need to take a page from the book of Vince McMahon. This story makes a lot more sense from Colby's perspective, Usman is just too dumb to realize it. Colby is sitting down at the gate of an airport waiting to board the plane to the UFC press event. Usman sees Colby and has one of his boys film the interaction for social media. Colby sees Usman and greets him. Colby is himself because he assumes that just like every other fighter, fighting at the card in Vegas traveling from Florida will likely be on this flight, so he says hi, they are technically coworkers. Usman drops his persona that he was putting on for his video, talks a bit and awkwardly get ready to leave. Colby spots the camera and two idiots standing around awkwardly filming them and realizes Usman planned this from social media. Colby posts on Twitter preemptively knowing that Usman has the video, saying that Usman punked out and didn't say or do anything when he saw him. Moral of the story, no one knows what you are thinking unless you say it.

Now, that said, he doesn't have as many title defenses in a row which, of course, is important, but the guy hasn't lost in 7+ years and all the non-losses have been actual wins which is different than winning some....getting no contests....getting disqualified. Kamara just wins. So, do I think Kamara is legendary....yes. Do I think he's better than either GSP or Jones? No. Can he eclipse both of them? Yes, for GSP....No for Jones. Because I think Jones does continue to fight and INCREASE his legacy...but even if he didn't....Jones was untouchable for years and now that he has been in lose fights, he still wins. Colby helped to show Kamara's greatness, but unlikely GSP and Jones, he is closer to his nearest rival than either GSP or Jones were in terms of talent. GSP and Jones were CLEAR CUT above their next best fighter. Kamara is better than Colby, but the gap isn't as wide. (and I apologize for the longer follow up). thanks!

@@tombehnke9058 The gap you are talking comes in time. Jon dominated for a long time and had really close fights lately. Khabib could've met his rival if he didn't retire with only 3 title defenses. Kamaru might find his rival too, but we don't know how long he's gonna stick around. Eventually the new fighters catch up it's just a matter of time and if you retire sooner, choose to fight till you meet your rivals or get old like anderson. This is recency bias, cuz he only just started his champion career. Look what happened to woodley who only had 3 title defenses and was considered one of the best ww in ufc and in talks to be better or not than gsp. Nowadays, we throw names around too much, let them prove themselves like the old school guys did and then compare them. Kamaru had some hard times with burns and colby and i definitely can see him getting beaten by someone one day. Imo, even the last fight was really close, cuz i personally gave colby 3 rounds, but it is what it is in the end.

There’s a video on KZread of Colby giving great, solid advice to a fan, and the fan straight out tells him that he should show that side of himself more often, to which Colby replies: “That’s not what sells.” I actually feel kinda bad for the guy to be honest. His style of fighting is highly effective, and he has cardio for days, but fans don’t like it because they just want to see highlight-reel KOs. So he has to play this ridiculous, over-the-top character (even though he’s not that way in real life) in order to sell a fight, and get paid money. And it’s worked, as he’s had 2 amazing fights with Kamaru Usman, and is arguably the best WW in the division besides the champ. Thing is, a lot of people don’t want to watch him fight, they want to watch him get his ass kicked. But hey, publicity is publicity. Good or bad.
