In decades? Weren’t the last lot the ‘ golden generation’? The 90 World Cup team were unlucky not to end up winners. The 96 Euro team was the best England team I’ve ever watched ( I’m 49 first tournament I watched and took an interest in was Espana 82 ), Venables had them playing proper fast, physical English football mixed with some excellent technical players and managers tactics/strategies. I’m afraid your players, manager etc just aren’t as good as you think they are.

I’m amazed at how many people seem actually shocked and surprised by these England performances. Do they not watch England games? Southgate’s England have stunk the place out for years now. Qualifiers, friendlies, even in tournaments, every single time I watch them there’s no style of play, no structure to the team and the players look like they have no idea what they’re supposed to be doing. Its as clear as the nose on my face that they simply arent being coached properly. Even coming into this tournament, we’d won 1 out of 5 games and been beaten by Iceland. Yet we were the bookie’s favourities for the tournament and every pundit and media personality going was hyping up England, just seemingly forgetting every performance we’ve seen from them in recent memory. I’m not in the slightest bit shocked at these results, and the fact we’ve needed two lucky goals from deflected passes shows it could be even worse for England.

KP was absolutely excellent at that euros so I see where the waistcoat w*nker is coming from. Won the POTY in our best competition finish in how many years? outran everyone, made more recoveries than anyone and played progressive passes linking the defence and attack. Not the most talented or technically gifted player but hard work beats talent everyday when the talent doesn't work hard. Seems an odd coincidence that since his omission we look extremely disjointed and have attackers dropping deeper than Rice to get the ball. If only "KFC " Kalvin Phillips had as much enthusiasm for football as he has for bargain buckets.

@@andrewhoughton2617 yeah to be fair I'm not a fan at all of the BBC pundits but they did have a right go afterwards, which surprised me as they normally do their upmost to protect and big up the English players. I feel like Denmark deserve more credit too, as they played without fear, passed forwards regularly despite giving it away in doing so a few times, and actually looked like a proper team. Will be interesting to see what team Southgate names next game! Basically qualified and with how knackered they looked I think he should make a lot of changes and freshen things up, there's a good depth to the squad, make use of it!

If Southgate thinks Phillips was so important, why didn't he pick him

The English players don’t want to risk getting injured and getting dropped from their clubs next season. Too much money involved in transfers and salaries. They score a goal which is just enough and then go into defensive mode. They are not going to run with the ball and risk getting tackled just so England can win the Cup. They have next season to play for their clubs and that is where the big 💷💰££££ money is.

Well.. I imagine German and Spanish football fans would at least think that Kane and Bellingham are, admittedly that’s about it and other players in that squad are hyped up a bit too much… but that squad on paper is still up there with some of the better teams in this tournament (not better than but up there) and the manager is a huge let down
