Some waiters get paid enough at fancy restaurants. Its still polite to leave a tip. If the bill is high then its expected to leave a fat tip. Its kinda rude if you don't. Sure its not required but its polite.

@@Leva.Xterminator That's not the same thing at all. Could you, like, actually explain why we should tip them so much? It's not polite, it's just dumb. If you're rich, then sure, tip them as much as you want, but you shouldn't be expected to because they already get paid to do their job. Why is tipping even a thing? I don't get it. You do it because that's what you've known and been told to do your whole life, so you just don't question it, but when you actually think about it, it doesn't even make sense.

@@BlueHat1 You tip in the US because in most states, servers make $2/hr. That's right. Two dollars per hour. Customers are expected to tip. The system is stupid, but that's how it is. If you go out to a restaurant in a state where servers make $2/hr, you are expected to tip them.

People are complaining that this story is superficial but you are missing the point... It is supposed to be superficial, making fun of 'fake' one-dimensional societal problems through IRONY (rich white girl walking around her expensive house and complaining about tips and relationship). For what we know, the story can even be made up, partially made up, or simply missing some crucial details.

I actually don’t think it’s hinting at any irony. Vogue is superficial. I love it but it is. This is no deep, hidden meaning, ironic video. I think you should actually take it at face value, haha! Also, that is actually a terrible problem (bad tippers). People like that are horrible. If you can afford dinner out, then yes you should tip for the service as well. I understand if you go to those places with no table service that ask you to tip or if you had a horrible server...other than that, I don’t think people should go out for dinner if you can’t comfortably pay for the tip.

I love this clip. I'm Third World poor myself, so I totally appreciate the value of tips, and when I eat in Third World Z-grade restaurants and I find the the food and service satisfactory for the thrid World price, I always leave a tip (in the thrid world, a tip is a tip and we don't calculate pecentages of bills because there are only two kinds of customers here - a-holes who don't leave a tip and a-holes who do)

You could have sat down and talked with the guy about the tipping problem. Or have one person pay for the main meal and the other person tip, and then switch roles the next time you guys go out to eat.

I have kind of the reverse problem :P If I'm dating someone that I know is barely getting by or complains about money issues, and I see them spending all their money on eating out and 30-50% tips, it makes me think that they are irresponsible and reckless with their money...definitely a turn off but not a deal breaker XD (and yes of course I would discuss the issue with them if I had a big enough problem with it)

He was a star and she was a nobody. He was probably taking her to very expensive restaurant, spending upwards of $100 per meal. That's 20 dollars or more every time they went out. Which can be quite expensive for someone living off minimum wage, or anything close to it. Especially back then, when the minimum wage in California was much lower than it is today.
