Details about this video:
Vasishta Theertha:
Kalasa town is around 6.5 Kms from Annapoorneshwari temple of Horanadu.
Our first destination Vasishta theertha is 1.5 Kms from this Place. To reach Vasishta theertha, you need to take the road which is on the other side of the temple.
Ypu will get to see Bhadra river which flows calmly throgh Kalasa at Vasishta theertha.
The beautiful pedestrian hanging bridge built across the river adds beauty to the place.
The River Bhadra originates at Gangamoola near Kudremukha, and flows east across the southern part of Deccan Plateau,
It flows through the towns of Kudremukh, Kalasa, Horanadu, Balehonnur, Balehole and Narasimharajapura(N.R Pura).
The Bhadra meets the Tunga River at Koodli, a small town near Shivamogga.
Later it continues as Tungabhadra, a major tributary of the River Krishna, then empties into the Bay of Bengal.
kalaseshwara Temple:
Tradition traces the origin of Kalaseshwara temple to events related in the Skanda Purana.
Accordingly, the wedding of Lord Shiva and Parvathi in Himalayas caused a shift in the Earth's rotation because of the attendance of all Gods and Goddesses.
To restore the Earth's balance, Lord Shiva requested Sage Agasthya to travel South. Agasthya however, expressed his wish to witness the wedding. Lord Shiva assured to grant divine vision to the sage, which would enable him to witness the wedding from any part of the world.
Agasthya travelled southward and resided in Kalasa and from there he watched the wedding.
A Shiva Linga appeared out of his Kalasha, which means pot. He built a temple here and installed the Linga in it. This is why the temple now called as Kalaseshwara temple.
The Girija Kalyana (marriage of Lord Shiva and Parvathi) is celebrated in Kalasa every year to commemorate this tradition.

We recommend 2 days stay in KALASA ( minimum) since it is a center point for many tourist spots , be it trekking , hill top drive, forest homestay, etc. Horanadu Annapoorneshwari is just 7 km off. Drive through Kudremukh forest reserve of 40 kmfrom Kalasa to Mala checkpost & back is wonderful. Drive to Udipi through Mala checkpost or take the route to Sringeri from Kalasa. In many ways Kalasa is a central point of stay & enjoy typical Mangalorean food too! Kotta Idly /Kadupu/ Neer Dosa / Val val / Mangalore Bun etc !!

The Kwacker Thanks for the words. Good to know that you are planning to Kudrwmukha. Plz be aware that most of the places in Kudremukha when we visited during Jan were closed. But ofcourse the ride through Kudremukha ghat road is a real bliss. Our vlog on Kudremukha may not be ready by the time you ride due to time crunch. Anyways wish you happy n safe ride.
