Kalahari Deception Valley April 2023 Botswana
We spend 4 days exploring the deception valley in the CKGR Kalahari, we track lions and find a pride of 7 lions that we watch every sunrise in deception, we also find a leopard and lots of other cool sightings. we camp two nights at kori camp 4 and our last night we stay at the wilderness camp 8.
thanks for watching

Enjoying your videos. Simple, basic camping without all the frills and extras that people seem to need to bring these days. Can almost smell the coffee and taste the steak and potatoes. Keep them coming please. 0:36

That must have been an amazing trip, how many nights did you spend out there! Sounds like it’s time for another trip 😂 I think sunrise and sunset in the desert is so epic
Thanks for the vid guys. I like the sincerity that comes across. I also like that it's not edited to the max and feels a little more raw and unpretentious. We're going in March/April for 10 days and can't wait!!

Hey, thanks for watching, I was so hoping to be back in deception this march but Kori was booked so hopefully get a spot booked soon. 10days is epic, hope you have a great trip and see some excitement! Keep your eyes open for leopards on those back roads on the edges of deception at dusk and dawn !
Love it, looking forward to doing this myself

So interesting to see a video made by “civilians!” It makes a nice change from the usual safari guided films. I’ve never thought about just going camping before.

Wow that's pretty cool. yeah I love the CKGR hoping to be back in august maybe a bit earlier . thanks for watching!
Wonderful video! I’ve been captivated by CKGR since I read the Owen’s’ book in the 80’s. I back packed Botswana in the 1990’s but didn’t make it to Deception Valley - it is still on my wish list. Your camping set up is so effective yet simple - it blends in with the landscape so well. Enjoy your next trip, An aging backpacker UK

Hey, thanks for your comment, Botswana in the 1990s must have been amazing. The Owen’s book has always been a favorite, it’s amazing how little it’s changed. I just confirmed my booking for August, but we hoping to squeeze in another kalahari trip before, hopefully soon. Thanks for watching 🫡
Great video! Also enjoying the Savuti diaries. I did CKGR north to south in August 2023. Had bad luck with cats but Sunday Pan water hole was magic. Got to camp with the guys servicing the boreholes at Piper Pan and hear all there wonderful stories. Must get the video together at some point.
Love the part with the leopard- 😅 very regal

To be fair i love them too, although i love the peace and coolness of a sunrise and the excitement of seeing what's still lurking from the night before
We spent six nights in three different camps. Night sky were spectacular stars were as big as rocks and amazing milkyway and night sky. Just the air, breeze and smell of a dry air. Your film refreshed the memory of our travel. You are absolutely correct that we should travel again. It's very difficult to book KTP as no dates are available but I assume off season Central Kalahari would be doable. Thank you so much for all advise and prompt reply.

Just discovered your channel, really enjoying the production, planning a trip to Botswana in the near future as a first time visitor from Hoedspruit. Keep up the good work, only wishlist item as a suggestion is if you could somehow include route maps of where you are traveling . I have also subscribed to the channel, hope to see a bit of Bots though your eyes, cheers

@exploringbotswana
Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching, it depends on where you plan on camping, like here in the Kalahari, you need a good 4x4, a heavy duty canvas tent, water and extra fuel, sleeping bag and bed roll, kitchen equipment, and food first aid, ice box or freezer camp chairs tool box gin these are just the basics perhaps I will make a video on shopping and packing for a trip soon
Coming to Londolozi in September so hoping for such a wonderful sighting 🤞

Was driving difficult in CKGR? How does the difficulty to drive compare with Khwai Moremi area. Also easy months to drive in Kalahari. Thank you so much.
@exploringbotswana
7 ай бұрын
To be honest I find driving in the CKGR relatively easy, the main road in can be a bit sandy, but nothing that a average driver and decent 4x4 can’t handle. Khwai and moremi can be horrible in the wet season and requires some skill. But for both kalahari and Khwai I would say June to August is the best
felt so good to watch real content without the unnecessary hula-hoops and obnoxious yells in between that content creators normally do. I've been reading the book "Cry of the Kalahari" and i'm increasingly getting influenced to go visit this place. I've been to Kenya a couple of times but i bet this place is a totally different world. Thanks again for sharing this with us.

hi, thank you for watching, and yes I can't stand those loud obnoxious content creators, I guess the idea is to create a video that allows you to basically come along with us and get a feeling of the place. the cry of the Kalahari is a great book, I love it. It is a really special place, and it has a very unique feeling of isolation, with no network and very few people. if you get the opportunity to visit deception you will love it, it has not change a lot since the cry of the Kalahari

@@exploringbotswana absolutely agree with all your words there. As I am reading the book and watch your video, I can relate those never ending fences, the ever extending turns. Surely not much has changed since the book was written.
