I think I'm the only one who doesn't think Miku is some sort of forest spirit. It's a good theory but I think that Miku was the embodiment of death itself, and, since the purple forest could be an indication to the suicide forest in Japan, Kaito was actually someone who went to commit suicide in the forest. The "paradise" could just be Kaito's heaven and that's why he spends eternity there.

Golden_Tsubasa It is based off of an original story. Miku is a Dryad. She is the one that was responsible of his death or disappearance

This is my interpretation based on comments, and the song itself. Kaito is lured into the forest by the girl Miku. Normally she would lure people in to feed them to the forests so the forest could live on. Maybe because the forest raised her, I'm not sure. So anyway, she lures Kaito and the two begin to sing. His eyes suddenly shine brighter and he is then taken to the meadow. The two sing how beautiful it is and as she begins whispering how they should stay together, she knows it can never happen. So before taking him to the meadow, she put him under a spell. She had already put his body into a tree, but kept his soul and scarf for herself because she had fallen in love with the human. So to keep the trees alive, that is what she did. And now the two are together forever, it's most likely the reason he isn't just dead, and able to echo in the forest and warn others of her as well. Since his body is kinda in the tree and stuff. And that is my Vocaloid theory. xD

Listened to this song on repeat when I was about 14. I'm now 28 and randomly thought about it while writing a suspense/ mystery novel. Gave me serious bad-vibe chills when I listened to it again.

This song reminds me of Aokigahara, the Japanese suicide forest. KAITO wanders there while lost, and Miku, who seems to be a siren encouraging suicide, brings him to the paradise. That paradise seems to be the "other side", and shows KAITO kills himself.

Miku is in a role of a Dryad. Dryads are nymphs, or these magical creatures that are similar to elves and are seen usually with green skin, hair, and eyes. Dryads usually lure humans in for tree food or something like that, that's why nobody ever returns. It's either the got lost or if they met a Dryad.

This song is Miku's revenge for Cantarella xD

My theory: Carnivorus plants would make gases to lure and sedate their prey, attracting them with smells of nectar and before their gas effected brains were close enough to relise its a trap, (which is very very close) the plant snaps over them and devoirs them. In this case miku is the carnivorus plant (dryad?) and KAITO is the prey.

My theory: The flowers are the souls of the people she's captured. Every time she turns someone into a flower she embodies a little piece of them, in Kaito's case it was his eyes. The purple mist is the evaporated form of what was left of the bodies after she turns them into flowers.

A former friend of mine from early high school days fixed the English translation so it could be sung perfectly to the Japanese lyrics.. I lost the printed papers, and I sadly only remember a few of the words... But the way she put them made it the actual translation seem like a love song.. That's how it always has been in my mind. But these dark theories are quite interesting :)

This song makes me think maybe Miku wandered into the forest herself and somehow died (either she got lost and starved to death or had an accident or something) and now she wanders the forest, acting as a sort of siren, luring people in to be her companions because she's lonely and killing them so they'll stay with her forever. Maybe her voice, like a siren's, has the power to lure people in and the beautiful lake and flowers kaito saw was an illusion she conjured to ensnare him further into her trap, a bit like the lotus flowers in the Odyssey.

this was the first ever vocaloid song i listened to during like more than a decade ago....i was only 7yo, really brings back memories

I believe that the forest consumed his body, he became nutrients that made the forest grow. Miku is a forest spirit, she lures the people who come into the forest and puts them to sleep with her singing voice, while the trees and other plants decompose his body. That's why we still can hear Kaito's voice even after he died, he became a part of the forest.

I don't think this song is creepy, I think is sad, and beautiful, that may sound cheesy but it's true, just my opinion

a song based on the famous 'forest' in Japan itself. which mean outsiders who don't know the land go missing due to a evil spirted that trick then into they r a innocent person(aka a girl), but ends up showing there true colors

I don't feel like this is a song about suicide, but a song about death. People who come into the purple forest are people who have departed from their physical forms and are traveling there as spirits. Miku acts as the "grim reaper" of the place, making sure that they pass on to wherever they need to be. Miku is smiling in the end because she knows that she's sending the departed spirits to a good place.

My guess is the girl is a siren of sorts. She calls people in with a beautiful voice and steals their soul from their body as food, which would explain the 'You'll never escape' and 'Let's stay here forever.' The reason she has Kaito's scarf is because she killed him. Well... This is my theory. And in the end, Kaito is warning others not to meet the same fate as him.

He be a tree now...

I think the reason Miku's voice is so captivating is because she absorbs every traveller's singing voice into her own...

It is so beautiful! It seems that this is one of the Vocaloid songs that are good for all ages such as children.

Hatsune Miku sounds absolutely angelic.

In the beginning I could just fall asleep to KAITO's nice and smooth voice, and then Miku's high-pitched voice came on and I jumped out of my chair.

Okay at first I was like, ooh this is creepy, then I was like, aww this is kinda cute, and now I don't know what the hell in feeling.....

This is sweet, almost sad, to me. Maybe because the girl (Miku) could have been lonely, but when someone comes along, even though she's alone and can't leave, she still has someone to sing with, and is happy, even just for a moment. :,D

The purple flowers was probably a hallucination as Kaito's spirit became trapped in Miku. She lures people into the forest and takes their voices, adding them to her own to create a mesmerizing song.

Something about Miku's eyes make me think of a puppet from Sesame Street (~gets Maka chopped~)

I'm pretty sure this song is based off of a suicide forest in Japan. In which case the underlying meaning of the song would be quite sad. My guess would be that miku represents death and suicidal urges and the beautiful lake she shows him represents the afterlife. And because he's dead he's there for all eternity. Once death (miku) catches him there's no going back.

I just analyzed the lyrics and as soon as Miku showed up I thought he is dead.

This song is soooo beautiful. And SO WELL MADE LIKE OMG There are a crap ton of Vocaloid songs even nowadays that aren't nearly as good quality as this one. The tuning and everything, it's so beautiful And the video is also super pretty~~~ I love it I'm sad that this song isn't as well-known as others, it's so amazing, and was one of my first few Vocaloid songs. At the time, I didn't realize just how amazing this song is. There was a lot of hard work put into it! The voices don't sound robotic-y, and it even sounds like they're breathing sometimes! I love it so much!! I would kill to see someone today remake this with their newest versions and it be nearly as amazing as this is!
