For ratings, yes. For the series themselves, I'd say the entire 90s era of Sentai brought new life into the franchise since the 80s played a lot of it pretty safe with one dimensional heroes and every theme revolved around science. The 90s was when the rangers started to have various personalities, backstories, and the themes get changing be it Chinese mythology, dinosaurs, fantasy, ninjas, digital technology, time travel, or nature.

Yeah, Megaranger is a show that I like the more times I rewatch it. In fact, getting all of the In Space figures from Hasbro makes me want to rewatch Megaranger again. :-)

i thought the concept of 'video games was actually a simulator to find suitable candidates for an organization' was like the plot of the movie, The Last Star fighter.

Yeah.

I'm surprised power rangers didn't adapted the soccer plot from megaranger considering that it's a black ranger focused episode and carlos was established as soccer player in the show. (Especially when saban adapted the spirit of the forest plot from megaranger for powet rangers turbo which surprised me.)

I love hearing characters from gundam series voice something in these kinda shows, it feels so cool

Awesome. I highly recommend starting with either Dairanger or Kakuranger. Hope you enjoy the reviews. Sadly though, I can't keep them 100% spoiler free otherwise I wouldn't be able to talk about anything beyond the first episode.

I'm loving this season so far. I'm only finished with the first three discs and I love the characters so much! I do agree with episode 5, it should've been shown later in the show instead of being so early

Megaranger was a very good show, in my opinion. I very enjoyed this show. The characters were likable, the designs were cool, the villains were menacing (aside Shibolena and Bibidebi), and Dr. Kubota was one the best Mentors in Sentai history. Megaranger is my favorite Sentai in general, sure there was some bad stuff but they get easily overshadowed by the good. I really enjoyed this review, this actually the first video I ever saw of yours. Keep the good review coming.

Power Rangers: Secret identities up the wazoo with a few exceptions Super Sentai: Most teams seem to not have a need for that with a few exceptions Does that sound about right? Even in Jetman there was never a necessity to keep their identities a secret.

It just makes them look like they are protecting themselves from backlash especially in MMPR, since Rita or Zedd can spy on the rangers 24/7 and know every detail and info about the ranger's lives. Also if Rita or Zedd spy on the Rangers, then why don't they attack them during school, exposed them, do what Megaranger did in its finale.

Awesome review yet again! The Megaranger theme song kicks so much ass, got Jetman's and GoGoV's alongside it on Itunes. Can't say much about the show though because whenever I try watching I seemingly drop it after a few episodes. Not that I dislike it, but it doesn't grab me like Kakuranger managed to recently.

I like both Megaranger and PRiS, but it is a case where I like them both equally but for different reasons. Also, what i liked near the end of Megaranger was getting some real world consequences of what happens when their identities are discovered , not just by the villains, but by the general population. Something PR never really tried to explore.

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork At the time I watched it, was 15 at the time, it was a Super Sentai that I felt you could show to people who are a bit sensitive to intense scenes like in Dairanger and it still felt like a Super Sentai.

I like the main theme, but I still like Power Ranger's music a little more. Especially for In Space, they always made it sound so epic, like I was watching Spartans fight in an arena, but instead it's grown ups in spandex.

It basically means any videos I post. From my understanding, Patreon only limits up to three charges per month, so in a month when I post 30 videos due to conventions, you aren't getting charged for every video. I also do try to only charge for the main videos be it a full review, a regular Top 10, or something. I don't think it is worth having people pay for me doing a question and answer video. I mean, sure, if people don't mind, I'm cool with that, but I feel like some KZreadrs take advantage of that and will make a quick video just to make money. I want my supporters to feel like they are getting their money's worth out of me. :-) I hope that makes sense.

In Japanime's In Space vs Megaranger review, he said that there was a theory about how arcades were the millitary's secret training gear going around that time. So maybe that's where the idea came from.

Enjoyed this review the day it came out but wanted to wait until I finished the show for myself before commenting, and I overall agree for the most part. Although it's technically my first Sentai I've watched in full, I have a feeling this might end up being my favorite, although the only other one I own so far is Dairanger which seems a bit different due to a lot of the episodes being direct continuations of one another. Really love the series BGM and I am SO UPSET that iTunes pulled the intro and ending themes of this show from the US store, along with the other Sentai OP/EDs they had. Wanted to buy the ending theme so badly too. D: Weirdly though, I swore I heard the BGM from the Psycho fight at 19:39 before, and looking through old videos I loved a Pokemon parody from a youtuber named Balrog the Master used this as BGM. Was the song public domain from BBC and Megaranger used it, or is it actually something made for the show that this youtuber I enjoyed liked way before I did? :O

I had no idea iTunes ever had the intros to them. That would have been cool. Not sure about the music track itself, but I guess Toei had bought an entire library or music and sound effects from BBC in 1996, which is why Megaranger had the Tardis sound effect for the villains in a few scenes. Dairanger is in its own category as far as Toku goes. In fact, probably shouldn't even count it as a Sentai show. :-p

9:55 Like you saying that Megaranger would've has a return special like Shinkenger, Goseiger, Hurricaneger, Dekaranger, Go-Onger, Kyoryguer, Zyuohger, Go-Busters, ToQger and Ninninger, right?

I think Mega Pink's Voyager looks more like a rover than a tank.

Unlike in Power Rangers, killing the Nezirangers also killed Javious due to them draining his power from each fight

I just realized something stupid in Megaranger: MegaRed took multiple hits from Yugande in a fight and was relatively unharmed, yet MegaBlack was put in the hospital from taking just one hit from Yugande. It's kinda saying that the other Megarangers are just weaker than MegaRed.

Ohranger isn't goofy, it just isn't always serious. Carranger, on the other hand, while silly, can have a lot of really deep and serious moments within its layers, making it one of Sentai's finest. Glad you enjoyed the Megaranger review though. I hope you enjoy the show as well.

The only Sentai series I have not watched from start to finish is ToQGer. And technically I have not seen Turboranger subbed, only raw. After I finish Boukenger I will be rectifying the later.

That was from the old MMPR Legacy line Bandai did. I've now replaced it with the recently released SOC versions from Japan.

I have to admit that while the Sentai from Japan is always awesome to watch compared to what we got with Power Rangers, I feel that Power Rangers in Space was the season to really give the original Sentai a run for its money in terms of it's storyline and how the American cast of characters matched well with the Japanese Stock Footage that was used.

I can agree with that. The only problem is that I just don't like TJ, Carlos, and Ashley. I found them to be poor substitutes for the original cast and replaced the rangers without any sort of build up. It was just, "Hey, we're leaving, you're now rangers, bye." I did like how it concluded everything from the previous 5 years though.

I think Japan had slightly faster internet in 97 than us but I'm not sure. But I would have laughed if the dial up sound went off if they transformed the first time at least and the villains stood there like o.O ....

33:06 Lots of details in these reviews you won't often find...Not sure how this mistake in the subtitles happens because it doesn't match any keyboard error a human would normally make. It looks like some type of translation software was being used here. The odd symbols seem to start right as the running guy begins to yell, as if the system didn't know what to make of the sound.

Having just finished binging Power Rangers In Space, i’m surprised that some of the Megaranger episodes mentioned here were adapted into PRIS. Of course there’s the Psycho Ranger arc, but also the Grandma matchmaker one, the one with the baby monster and the one with the Invasion of the Body Snatchers plot line.

Gingaman and Power Rangers in Space are made on the same year I was born.

This show reminds me a lot of Kamen rider Fourze and it's not just the high school setting but because both are very good too the characters are fun and great the humor is very funny and wacky it's just an overall great Sentai session I will always recommend it

If you look carefully at Delta Mega compared to Blue Jet/Jet Robo/Fitor from Gobots/Machine Robo,you'll definitely see that they are the same person. It's just that Delta Mega has guns for hands and is colored in monochrome. You can say Galaxy Mega might be an inspired design from this badass here from Machine Robo Revenge of Chronos: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lKqVm5qKqazOfKg.htmlm17s So yes,the mecha from Megaranger are literally Machine Robo tributes. No joke there considering PLEX,the toy makers for Bandai were the ones to make Machine Robo and Sentai toys too. God,I wish Machine Robo aesthetics were brought back to Sentai now. I miss 'em. Also,I really don't see why ppl would say Megaranger is better than Power Rangers in Space. One is about a space opera that is the finale to a golden era while the other is about teens with attitude. If anything,Megaranger should be compared to MMPR and to an extent,Power Rangers Ninja Steel considering the "high school" schtick they so "fondly" hold on to.

One wonders...WHY ISN'T THERE A POWER RANGERS/MACHINE ROBO CROSSOVER?!! It would have made sense for a world beyond Power Rangers where evil would have been present elsewhere. This could have EASILY rectify the reason why not every evil was vanquished at the end of PRIS. But then again,Saban Brands is like 'F*** YOU! WE HATE THE FANS so SCREW YOU,LOSERS!! HAHAHA.' I hate them so much for trampling on potential like that. No wonder we never get another VR Troopers.

Hasbro has the license to Gobots. Power Rangers toy license is now owned by Hasbro because Bandai of America were not cutting the deal anymore so it's likely we'll get to see that crossover. I even made a faux opening of what if Saban got to Machine Robo Battlehackers.

Now that I keep listening to the ending theme, I know Imma get bombarded by this but I feel this ending theme fits more with the end of the Zordon era imo. It really feels like this ending theme could have been played at the end credits of 'In Space' due to it being the last time we'll see the MMPR era till In space, capping off the adventure of Teens with attitude turned into galactic heroes as Zordon has prophesized. Same thing with Gaoranger's ending theme where it feels like it can play at the end of Wild Force because its the end of the Saban era of Power Rangers. Strange, isn't it? What supposed to be ending themes for their respective Sentais feel more like bookends to another property when you listen to them in a different outlook.

So we have a high school student recruited by the government through the use of a training program disguised as a video game why does that sound familiar...so the Japanese Government pretty much used Polybius to decide who gets to be the Red Ranger and pretty much just picks four random joes from a tour group for the others

It was, a pilot training tool used by an Alien Alliance to recruit fighter pilots for an intergalactic war disguised as a video game. Ender's Game I'm not that sure on. I brought up Polybius because well it's the Government using a video game to gage potential recruits. However I feel Rangers in Space was better because the stakes were so high, and of course that now legendary ending where Bulk and Skull lead the people in revolt against Astronoma and her army

Nice to know the Psycho Rangers were menaces even in their Sentai days.

looking back, she is not in my top five PR villians. 1. Venjix 2. Mezzogog 3. Ransik 4. Master Org 5. Queen Bashera 6. Olympus (voiced by Apollo on Star Trek: TOS) 7. Sledge 8. Madam Odous 9. Flurious 10. Lord Zedd This is not based on nostalgia but based on character factor. I am not cutting Ed slack, just because of 1990's parents. Rita toned him down.

Did she really tone him down though? I mean, with Rita he destroyed the Thunderzords, captured the pink power coin, Ninjor, and the falconzord. He destroyed the power coins and the command center.

I have the two that have been released so far.

I have to say I really did enjoy Megaranger and I loved most of the characters. Kenta is my favorite character of them all but I really loved the others rangers too. I wasn't sure about Yuusaku though but I ended up liking him though. I just think his time limit thing should stay in the sentai because that can be inconvenient at times. I even liked the Nezijere for the most part. I don't really have an opinion on King Javius or Bibidabi. I wished King Javius had met the Rangers at least once though. But Gruril I was very disappointed with him, and I really wanted to like him like I told you in one of your update videos but I was just let down. Now the Nezirangers I really liked and enjoyed but I think I liked the Psycho Rangers a little bit better. That could change though.

Kenta grew on me as I initially hated him when I watched the series for the very first time only to see him in a better light on the second viewing knowing how his character advanced. I wish more had been done with Gurail, especially considering how I had high hopes for him given PRiS.

Probably the thing that got on my nerves the most was people saying the Nezijere wouldn't have attacked if the Megarangers didn't exist except they ignore the fact that the heroes or no heroes the villians are going to attack no matter what. That just sounds very ungrateful to the people who have been saving your lives for a whole year now. That really just made me mad and it reminded me of Captain America Civil War. The comic by the way.

The Zyurangers are Figuarts. As for the zords, when I filmed this review, yes, they were the Legacy zords. Now, I've replaced the dinos with the Soul of Chogokin ones (I just got King Brachion, so you will be able to see them combined in my Hurricaneger review when I get it out).

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork I mean Changeman and Megaranger were supposed to be space themes, but aren't, due to budget issues. That's just a speculation.

INET: [puts the entry test for their super hero team in an arcade] Also INET: "Why did you chose high-schoolers to become Megaranger?" That aside I really enjoyed Megaranger. I came to care about the characters some time in the first 10 episodes. Bibidevi has to be my favourite character. That mischevious voice and his tendency to bite his allies - a touch of silliness right where it's needed. I don't recall him being destroyed so he may be the last survivor of the Nezirejia. He can even restore a monster from ash, which is likely how Palpatine "somehow" returned... Of the rangers Miku is me favourite. Her mannerisms are adorable. Galaxy Mega's transformation from a spacecraft to a robo is pretty cool when it's in motion. The firing of its thrusters and the pose it strikes as it enters the earth's atmosphere with its shield in front is also quite badass. The gattai with Delta Mega also looks great when the two robos take off and revert to their spacecraft forms as they rise into space. The first (and I guess third) ending songs make me tear up a little. I nice touch on what I'd have to rate as my fourth favourite Sentai so far behind Jetman, ToQger and Kiramager.

Yeah, I love how they put the fighting machine in an arcade and then got surprised when it was just kids playing it. I though DebiDebi was in the ship when it was destroyed, but I could be wrong.

that is awesome! I hope youll love it just as much as I do. Can you ALSO bring the topic since you already know the main theme of the story, that if Super sentai could ever do a season that focuses heavily on romance, or at least getting it right? Ever since this and somewhat carranger, there have been awful portrayals of romance. It's a subject I think it can be frowned up for tokusatsu.

I didn't really appreciate Megaranger my first time through it. It was the second viewing and onward that I fell in love with the show.

okay so finally finished watching megaranger before gogofive and I have to say this one really surprise me everything about it made very memorable the heroes were very well draw out and the villains were very enjoyable with a few flaws aside from one named Guirail as you said very one dimensional and just sucked overall and I have to take back what I said about JR being third favorite villain Yugande is my third fave and JR. is my second I wont reveal my all time favorite just yet also what I love about megaranger is the music that makes up for the entire show holy crap was it good for the atmosphere that it was set in for the and I would get pump just hearing it. now for the mecha I have to say it with out a doubt my second favorite mecha's in the entire sentai series Now for my favorite ep now that was hard to pinpoint but I have to say it would probably be two way tie and they are the eps 38/42. "Scary! Nejirejia's Fiendish Squadron" /"Lose Them! The Evil Pursuers" what can I say these two eps had me on the edge of my seat I couldn't wait to see what happens next and we come to my least favorite is ep. 18 "Protect it! The Mysterious Boy's Forest" this ep just didn't do anything for that's all I can say about it. So with everything that I saw with megaranger I have to say I would give it a solid 4.5 out 5 .ever since I saw power ranger's in space I wanted to see where it came from and I was not disappointed.

Always great to hear it when someone says they have enjoyed this series. I really feel like the Neiji Ranger arc turns it from being a good show into a great one as it was completely out of left field and revolutionary at the time. We may have had evil teams in the past like with the Konoichi Flower Girls and Gingaman in Fiveman, but nothing like what the Neiji Rangers were.

Oh, I know I could that if I wanted to, but since the show is licensed by Crunchyroll, I won't do that. I'm not going to steal revenue away from Crunchyroll just for a review. I'll review it for sure whenever it is brought out to disc, but I'm not going to steal the series when someone owns it here. No one has licensed things like the Kamen Rider series yet, which is why I have no problem using the fansubs.

Never really liked the way the bystanders treated our heroes even after they exposed their identities in front of their schoolmates and instructors. They should have postponed the graduation ceremony until all of the Nezirezia was defeated.

Yeah, the finale was kind of weird because there's no sense of pacing with it. Did they seriously have their graduation start minutes after the final battle? It doesn't seem like that much time went by during the last few episodes when they said graduation was a few weeks away.
